  1. Not too bad as they were well marked. But then I was in a small group which made visibility easier.
  2. I got 103...
  3. Have you checked in the mirror recently? ;-)
  4. I think you can just arrive. Ask flex - I've seen him in the water in the mornings. As for the safety, I'd be a little worried after the Germiston Lake fiasco. flex swears it's safe, but I don't like the look of those yellow and black skull-and-crossbones signs warning one to keep out of the water...
  5. I'm not a triathlete (I suck at running and about the same with swimming), but it's interesting to see the triathlon organisers communicating clearly and factually and then (it sounds like) organising a decent work around... Can we cyclists borrow some of them?
  6. KZN Expedition? Wouldn't that be the MTB one...?
  7. No need to explain yourself. I was getting the obligatory "Hub Dig" in at you before anyone else did. I hope you had a good ride, though!
  8. Us guys in Joeys are shocked, too. Our thoughts are with the mother, her family and your Club. A terrible incident...
  9. You ride for the medal? Someone saw you coming and slipped you a duff one. Just checked and mine is a genuine Emperor's Palace. A mix up with the supplier?
  10. Absolutely. Mine is brilliant...
  11. Sour grapes. *** 'em...
  12. I'm 45 and stuck on hardtails. I don't think full sussers are worth it.
  13. Except in those days they were fit enough to use bicycles. Can you imagine the current crop of police "officers" on bikes? They'd have a thrombosis within 500m...
  14. Yep. I recognise them from the VM bunch... Still trying to catch Spiessie.
  15. I don't think height has anything to do with it. If it did, Andrew Mclean would be riding my daughter's 22" Barbie bike. There was also a schoolgirl who won a category at last year's champs on a 29er.
  16. 100%. Also, I put a bit of Molyslip Copaslip on to stop it seizing again, but any anti-seizing compound should do...
  17. This is the first I have heard of this. Any Capetonians able to shed some light: http://www.iolproperty.co.za/roller/news/entry/cape_town_west_coast_cycle If this is a sign of things to come, it's frikkin' awesome...
  18. DNF Had an awesome start with the racing tandems - some great attacking, chasing and counter-attacking until at 35kms we punctured. I then found out I had forgotten to replace the tube and bomb from the last time we rode and got a puncture. We then had to wait for someone to give us a tube and limped home in time to watch the elites finish... The route up to there was great tandem territory with a little gutter wind to make things interesting. Awesome ride from the Cycle Lab U23 team who got a second after the launch of the team on Friday night!!! It seemed like a good race, but the organisation at the start was taking strain. The access road through the mud was a disaster. Luckily I had a 4x4 so it wasn't a problem, but quite a few cars got stuck. Something to look forward to being better organised next year!
  19. I use the USN Vooma in the sachets (making sure I don't throw the wrapper away!). I find I can get them down (not too gooey) and the taste is minimal (I use the vanilla ones), so I find them the best for me. I tend to knock back one towards the end of a long stage or race.
  20. I noticed on the Joberg2c last year that the 29ers were flying on the flat stuff in the Free State, but as soon as we got into the Berg and Sani sections they started struggling. Maybe it's a horses-for-courses thing and some routes suite 29ers and other 26ers. I wonder if we'll be seeing the top guys switching depending on the race, or it the marketing pressure will be too great for them...
  21. # - 06:20 Any other racing tandems?
  22. I have XTR front with SRAM X0 shifters and it's a lovely combination. Must be your setup...
  23. I've only heard via-the-via, so take this as gossip 5 times removed. I believe they are very "social"... It'd be interesting for you to try them out and let us know... 'nuf said.
  24. Just found this thread! Yep - it seems the backup service we were paying for on our server wasn't worth it. When the harddrive went titsup, so did our site. It's now been rebuilt, bigger and better - with the routes posted with GPX files. Check out http://www/cyclesafe.co.za
  25. And more...
