1. Check out: http://togoparts.com/forum/showthread.php?fid=1&tid=63267 They don't do cash 'n' carry - probably because they don't have any bikes. SCAM!
2. CycleLab R450 Road MTB Track Triathlons Race teams (MTB & Road) Organised rides at Clubs around the country, with Think Bike marshals in Jhb. With beginners. Social rides on Sunday and supported rides during the week. Hospitality at about 10 road races a year + several MTB races + Cape Epic. Includes subscription to Ride magazine ER24 assistance (I have unfortunately used this once).
3. They should go single speed...
4. They are placebos. Suck on a stone and you'll get the same result if you believe in it. Powerbands have not yet managed to stand up to any independent scientific study. But if you believe in them and they get your mind right, then go for it...
5. I don't have a Polar, as I use a Garmin. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another heart rate monitor. I do use the Garmin on my motorbike, too (I have an Edge 705) and the directions and routing area great, so there's something extra my Garmin does, but it's not cycling related... Your Polar works for you, my Garmin for me. Diffr'nt strokes for diffr'nt folks, I suppose...
6. Bicycling used to be good when the editors had their hearts in it: Sean Badenhorst and Tim Brink. We used to see them on bikes and ride with them. They've now moved on to Tread and that one's on the up while Bicycling is plummeting (I stopped my subscription last year). For a general cycling mag, Ride is the leader by far. Adele Tait is an enthusiastic and involved member of the cycling community. Just what is required for a good editor...
7. I keep my torque wrench in my race bag and use it every time I put the saddle or handle bars on (which is quite often wit ha tandem). I never use a normal allen key unless I'm on the road or trail...
8. I'll get the table...
9. I do it now and again for two reasons: - more aero - another position
10. Got '#' starting at 05:35. The only place up is to '$'...
11. I can't believe bicycles are banned on the Gautrain! I was looking at a job in Pretoria and cycling to Rosebank, jumping on the Gautrain and then cycling into Centurion would have been the perfect commute... BTW, last Wednesday was National Car Free Day. I cycled in and saw NO other cyclists!. I then rode back along the spruit on my cyclocross bike and hit a stone at quite a pace. The tyre deflated with what I thought was a pinch flat, so I popped in my spare tube, inflated and BANG! - the tube popped! I had actually cut the frikkin' sidewall, and having assumed a pinch flat, hadn't checked. Luckily I had my Camelbak with me with another tube (I had checked). Unfortunately, I hadn't checked properly and it was my tubeless MTB spares kit in there - a 26" tube! I managed to squeeze it onto the road rims, but it deflated within a couple of kms, so it was a 16km ride back home on a flat rear tyre... It was amusing passing the MTBers with a flat rear tyre! Next time I'll take the car! I have to skip today as my son's weekly play date is off, so I have to get home early, but lookout next Wednesday!
12. JB - Clean Green works a charm!
13. Absolute cr@p. They are saying Shimano can't design a derailleur that can shift? ****ing idiots. Find a new LBS. I had a problem with a derailleur doing the same and the LBS looked at it and finally decided it was a manufacturing fault (either the spring was stuffed or the joints too tight). They just sent it back and demanded a new one. Problem fixed.
14. Glad you're OK. Open a charge of reckless and negligent driving...
15. Close enough!
16. IMHO they need frikkin' ceramic disks!
17. A Rollamajig is not the same as a travel agent - just in case anyone is confused!
18. My GT cyclocross bike has MTB V brakes - Shimano Deore XT. The travel agent (as used on tandems - I also have one!) DOES change the pull so you can use standard STI levers. Jules Cobbett also has the same setup and they both work perfectly. I can post pics, if required.
19. You'll have to prise mine from my cold, dead fingers... I'll also recommend the BBB - a fantastic unit for all the small bolts. Star tgetting into the habit of using it for your stem and seatpost clamps...
20. To their credit, Nadia from Entelect has come back to me. It appears that what I was trying to do before the system crashed was correct. You need to enter the one person, then while entering the second you need to do the linking of the tandems by noticing the tandems button that appears on the top of the one screen. Not linear, not obvious and not explained... Let's hope they sort it out.
21. The latest in my ongoing saga with this load of rubbish. 1. Race For Victory I enter via the Entelect web site with my tandem partner. No problems!!! Incredible! Have they finally manged ot get it right? Nope. At registration, I am shunted to a separate table where the poor lady is trying to link up tandem partners. Apparently the Entelect system stuffed it, so they have to do it manually. No major problem, but at least Entelect is performing as expected. 2 OM Classic So today I try to enter the tandem section of the OFM Classic. I select tandems and get passed through several dozen hoops. After searching around, I finally find a button to link tandem partners. It asks me for his name and/or ID. The problem is he is not entered, so I can't get his details. So I reckon maybe I need to enter myself, then enter him and during HIS entry, I search for myself and then link us up like that. Rocket science stuff! So I try to complete entering myself and the web site falls over with: An error has occurred Please contact support@entelect.co.za with the following information: * Your name * Your contact details * A brief description of what you clicked on that resulted in the error ****. ****. ****. And the system then sends me an email with the subject: MTN OFM Classic 2010 Confirmation WTF??? Why do race organisers persist with this cr@ppy system? I reckon they must be forced by MTN to use it...
22. I've been into the kitchens at Moyos Zoo Lake several times and will not eat there again. For an authentic African kitchen, you need to go no further...
23. I rode the WRAPD Spring Ride in Krugersdorp this morning. It's for a worthy cause and we needed the ride after two mechanicals on our tandem in the last two races. However, it was advertised as an 85km race and we hit the line at 63kms. How the heck can the organisers get away with advertising the ride as 85kms!!!??? We're not talking a couple of kays, but close on 26% of the distance!!!
24. Alibaba? As in "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves"?!!!!
25. Sounds like bull to me. WTF would you do with a 69er?
