  1. Humble pie... humble pie... humble pie...
  2. I tried riding with an MP3 player once and felt so unsafe I've never tried again. I won't ride with them on my motorbike, either...
  3. Any post on the internet is pretty much worth the paper it's printed on. Including this one...
  4. We've got an Elita crank but put on Shimano chainrings because they have the same hole setup. No one knew what was going on so we just took the crank off and took it with us. We then physically placed the chainrings over the crank and saw they matched.
  5. Contact Neil Frazer at Cycle Lab. He arranges some mean rides...
  6. A few guys from that area ride with the Illovo group. Check http://www.cyclesafe.co.za for details!
  7. I used mine once :-( The ER24 guys were clueless as to what it meant, but they did use it as a trump card to stop the Netcare guys from taking me away...
  8. Some things just can't be put better in any other language...
  9. Check the map on the web site: you're covered there. Start reporting!!!
  10. That's not funny. It isn't safe up there, either...
  11. I see there's an initiative from the private sector (so it'll work!!!) to rid Johannesburg of potholes! You can let them know of potholes via the web site or SMS. Check out: http://www.potholebrigade.co.za/ I'll start noting them tomorrow!
  12. I see that rock climbers are also being screwed by crime. I noted the guys reference to cyclists being hit by crime: http://news.iafrica.com/sa/699086.html We're not safe at home, we're not safe on the roads, we're not safe on the single tracks, now we're not safe up a bloody cliff face. I wonder when the ANC is going to wake up and start doing something..?
  13. ICE ID - since that's what I have. I now feel unsafe leaving home without it...
  14. All the big races have charging stations. I have a solar powered USB charger which works well... I got it from these guys: http://www.thegreenshop.co.za/c2/Mobile-Chargers.aspx My model is a roll up one - great for packing in a bag,but I see they don't seem to have them on their web site any more.
  15. Yep
  16. All nighter at the casino?
  17. Quiet Sunday morning...?
  18. We always hear how Cycle Lab are a bunch os stuck up, arrogant and unfriendly so and sos... Well, this morning I was riding by myself when about a kilometer from home, I punctured. I was busy replacing the tube when the Cycle Lab bunch came past. And guess what...? At least six or seven of them asked if I was OK , if I needed anything , and so on . They really pissed me off :angry:because I was trying to fix my flat and not chat! Then, just to really piss on my parade, the bloody back up vehicle stopped, the driver rolled down his window and asked if he could help!! AAArrrghghghgh!!! :cursing: After I very managed to say (very politely) no thanks, he drove off, looking very disappointed... I must admit that of the dozens of other single cyclists and groups that passed, not one other person bothered to even say hello, let alone offer assistance! Yes - credit where credit is due: thanks Lovemore and the Cycle Lab guys. I'm sorry I didn't take you up on your offers, but it's nice to know there are guys like you on the road. (Disclaimer: I am a Cycle Lab member, but I wasn't wearing my Club kit. And for godssake, please don't tell Ali!!!)
  19. Our morning ride group (the Illovo Cycle Group) insists that riders have a minimum of a red read REAR light...
  20. Just got back from my morning ride. I decided to do the Norwood Saturday morning ride on a Sunday. I'm not too familiar with the route and didn't know that the gates in Benoni were locked at 06:30 on a Sunday morning. Luckily I had my Garmin 705 and with the maps I managed to navigate back onto the route although I was totally lost! Yay Garmin!
  21. I have used this a couple of times and it was handy, but losing it won't lose me any sleep...
  22. Obviously you have never used a 705. I love my 705 and although I have used the 500, would never swap. I love the mapping and routing for the road. I have also loaded the topo sheets and it's great for MTBing. I like to be able to see where I am and where I am going. So, if you want a pure cycling computer, go for the 500. I you are wanting a great navigation device plus a cycling computer, go for the 800 (when it arrives). The great thing about the 800 is that it also has temperature (like to 500). The 705 I have doesn't do temperature and I like to know how cold it is in winter for boasting purposes. I'd also recommend to buy in SA. I had to swap out two 305s and it was never an issue.
  23. I had a Pedros one until our Moron of a Mechanic on the Joberg2c lost it. I then replaced it with a Pro one which seems to be exactly the same. It's the "clamshell" one that clips over the rear derailleur. I use Kleen Green and it's great for getting the chain clean. It also distributes Kleen Green all over the cassette and chainrings nicely for me to get in and scrub with a brush.
  24. Everytime I read this religious claptrap I thank god I'm a heathen...
  25. I have a simple policy: if they don't get back to me then I don't go back to them...
