  3. My Ikon Exo after 1 year of heavy use:
  4. Nee dude, dis seker van die k@kste tyres ooit. As mens dit elke maand moet vervang dan is dit R1140 per tyre per jaar. Die Ikon is R550 per jaar.

  6. Mix some fat free milk, FutureLife for carbs, LeanPro for whey protein, Milo, add some extra Glutamine.
  7. That`s a 2013 model: Big lever has 2 options left or right. Left is open/soft. When in left/soft position and the 0 setting = the most open/soft it can be. 1 Firms it up slightly and 2 firms it up more. When the lever is in the right/firm position the 0,1,2 setting has no effect. So I would suggest keeping it in the 2 setting and just flick the big lever, left/soft for downhills and right/firm for climbs.
  8. Ok: Big lever has 2 options left or right. Left is open/soft. When in left/soft position, the 1,2,3 pro-pedal setting has no effect. Prop-pedal only works when the big lever is set to the right/firm. 3 = Most firm and 1 least firm. This is the setup of the pre-2013 rp23.
  9. What happened is tragic, but 1 team pulling out is not the end of the world. I will start getting upset when the TDF is cancelled because of this, but it probably will not. Next year we will all be watching TDF again. It is painful but cycling will survive.
  10. Only 3 choices: - Maxxis Ikon Exo: Lasts long, good consistent grip, 30g lighter than Ralph Snakeskin - Racing Ralph: Good grip, rolls very slightly faster than an Ikon, but wears out 3x quicker, Snakeskin 30g heavier that Ikon Exo - Ritchey WCS Shield: Good grip but less volume, rolls as fast as a Ralph and wears out just as quick but 60g lighter For a dually I like the Ikon front and Shield rear. The Shield (same with the Ralph) wears out quickly especially on the rear, but it helps that the Ikon on the front lasts so long, so only have to replace the rear regularly. For my hardtail/race wheels I have Shields front and rear, but I`m thinking of going Ralph Snakeskin front and rear. For my training wheels I`m going with Ikon front and rear cause these just last so long and is bullet proof. If I only had 1 wheelset I would probebly go with Ikon front and rear or stick to Ikon front and Shield rear. I would not consider any other options. The Contis are heavy, the X-Mark has bad grip and super-heavy in UST, the Nobbly Nic rolls slow and is heavy.
  11. If you are considering a 29er hardtail, the Storm is the bike to get. I have the Storm 1 and it really is a great ride. It is more a xc bike because of its agility and speed, but it does well on long rides also. It is a very fast bike. The design, geo and build quality is top notch.
  12. Dont go full UST on 29" too heavy. For Arch rims just get tubeless ready tires with some sidewall protection. No extra tape required. Try to sell the tires you get still new.
  13. It`s a new planned move called the "Butt-first-maul". Well done Province!
  14. Check it out, this is the Sir Lowry`s Pass trail about 10mins drive out of Somerset West. XC bikes not allowed/able.
  15. Lots of trails in Grabouw with lots of st but maybe more xc than am, Lebanon (R30) is a trail in Grabouw with some technical sections but maybe not AM. Then there is the Schapenberg (R40) black route in S/West which might just qualify as a trail ride. But the best AM stuff is for free and closest to S/West - and that is on Helderberg itself - you can get to the trails from Helderberg College in S/West - pm me to show you the place. I also know of a trail going down from Sir Lowry`s Pass which is very long and technical and not ridable on a xc bike.
  16. If comfort is important I would suggest 29er dually, something like an Anthem, Salsa Spearfish or Niner. A good 29er 100mm dually will be faster than the Trance and just as comfortable.
  17. This I think it is the shortest one since the Anthem is 100mm - (165mmx38mm / 6.5"x1.5"). I have the RP23 now but I would prefer the Rockshock RT3. There is not enough difference between pro-pedal and open with the Fox.
  18. Except for the Ikon - its lightweight and very good quality and very solid set up tubeless. Other top tyres like Racing Ralphs are also very good but just dont last as long as the Ikon.
  19. American Classic MTB wheelset - lightweight as a Crest wheelset but so much stronger.
  20. I`m also looking for riders to join on the Skaapenberg trail.
  21. But still tight enough to mount them with a floorpump.
  22. I ride the black CREST rims, my white CREST! wheelset is still new and will be sold. The diff between the black and white CREST rim is only 30g. Real tyres weights are usually a bit more than stated weights.
  23. UST = heavy tyres because of very thick sidewall and bead. Maxxis Crossmark UST 2.1 29er = 835g. Maxxis Ikon Exo 2.2 with sidewall protection = 575g. Thats a hefty 260g rotational weight per wheel. To me that is an unacceptable weight penalty. The UST is stronger, but the Exo is also strong enough.
  24. What I meant is UST and 29er dont go well together because of weight. I think the op refers to UST and tubeless as the same thing, but they are not. You basically get 3 types: non-tubeless, tubeless-ready, and UST, all of which can be used tubeless. The Ikon is on the same level as tubeless ready and is therefor much lighter than UST, and they also are very solid set up tubeless.
