  1. Essentially marshals should not be needed as there is a strict rule of cyclists crossing the white line, and that rule must be obeyed. The reason marshals are there are because there is a blatant disregard for that rule, especially by the elites who have actually pushed the marshals many times into the on coming lane and overtake the marshals around their right side straight into on coming traffic. When a cyclist pays the league entry fee, they pay to race the race only. PPA asks Think Bike for marshals who do this on a volunteer basis to help ensure the safety of the cyclists with regards to the surrounding traffic, but they can only do so much, especially if their numbers are few and when the groups split up in many groups. Meezo, Mark and Gerard, hope you guys heal up soon and very sorry to hear about your accident. This race was a tough one with very tight and fast sweeping bends. Unfortunately full road closure is not possible, which would have solved many issues and prevented this accident.
  2. Nope no flex, flex would cause the chain to pull and give feedback to the pedals. There is a great vid on Youtube that explains the GT I-Drive system quite well in how it uses that system to relieve pedal bob. So far bike is working very well, although I need to stiffen up my front fork a bit more. A little too soft for my weight.
  3. I tried to convert them to tubeless with the UST race kings but couldnt get a proper seal, so I just got tubes with liquid in and am using that. I could seal the tyres up with a compressor but not with a hand pump, too little air to force the sidewalls to bind. Tubes are working perfectly.
  4. Also deactivate the automatic upload. Only do the upload once after you have stopped your training.
  5. Check the Endomondo setting and select to not do the automatic upload. I did that yesterday for a 50km cycle. It saves all the info to the phone and then after pressing stop you can select "upload workout" on the menu. It should only popup once then to ask you to connect. Im not sure on the other settings of the Satio, havent used one before. Maybe test it around the block at home. No need to go for a long ride to test.
  6. There are no settings for time on the app, well from what I see on my Nokia 5230. Check the time zone on your phone, maybe its using that setting. Im not sure about the distance error, that is strange. What phone are you using it on?
  7. For it to work on the 8520 i think you need an external device to pickup a GPS signal, although the BB 9300 should work perfectly as that has GPS.
  8. Not sure how to use the heart rate monitor. I'm using the free version which is more than enough for me, but there should be all the info you need on the website
  9. Ha Ha!! so far I just tested it through my neighborhood and it was actually quite accurate. Maybe the satellite signal was a bit weak and it had to estimate a bit.
  10. Just remember to charge up your phone before the ride, as the GPS might use a bit of power but it should last for some good hours
  11. I came across this app a few days ago and was blown away, especially since its free!! If your phone is GPS enabled and is one of the large amount of phones that its compatible with, then I would suggest giving it a try! All you do is start it and road cycle/walk/run/mountain bike/hike/etc.. and the app times your activity, and gives your distance with GPS accuracy. Then either on your phone or on their website you can check out the route you walked/ran/cycled it mapped on a Google maps like page and it gives a world of information of your activity. Did I say again......its all free!! Its compatible with Android, Nokia (Symbian), Blackberry, Iphone, and more. Check it out for yourself@: http://www.endomondo.com Oh yeah, dont worry, I dont work for them, I was just very impressed by this app.
  12. For a newb on the road, rather buy a great second hand Merida for about R9000. You can get a brilliant one for that price.
  13. R.I.P Cyclist :-( Condolences to friends and family
  14. LOL!! Dont steal her thunder now
  15. Are you running your tyres hard enough and how is the rolling resistance of the bike? On a flat ground do a single pedal and get to like 5km/h, how long does your bike keep that slow speed. If your bike slows down relatively quickly without pressing brakes, you have extra resistance in your hubs or something. Running low pressure on the tires also adds resistance.
  16. Damn, I thought you were gonna post a pic of her :-(
  17. Nokia 3310?? Damn, you like antiques
  18. Well it depends if your buddy is cycling offorad or on road. Rule of thumb for a newbie, on road stay with a road bike and visa versa for off road and mountain bikes. Although I cycled with some guys on MTB's and running knobblies and they were leaving some road guys behind on the flats!! Those guys were machines!
  19. When I cycle I only take water and banana's, when I cycle on the R44 down to Somerset West, I throw my peels waaaay into the grass off the road. It will decompose quickly and nourish the earth again, but I hate people that litter on the roads especially those Gu Packs. Especially on cycling events, totally pathetic!!
  20. Man that concrete truck is flying!!!! LOL!!! Nice panning shot
