  3. Klapperkop in Pretoria has a few comparable climbs ,but not as long thou .If you can do klapperkop along the fence in both directions twice ,you are almost ready
  4. With no wheel sucking it is hard work ,but doable .Wheel sucking is actually hard to do in this event .To average 32km\h you need to be fit ,especially for the last 20km
  5. Same as me .To ride all of it you need 100% fitness .With70% fitness you will suffer if you try and ride all of it
  6. Like Garreth says .There is unwanted stuff in your free body hub .Mud ,Rust ext .If it is a cheap hub this can happen easily .Your axle can also be stuck with the same rubbish .If you were riding in the mud the last few weeks you have a hub service ,replacement coming

  14. I have used it for social riding on holiday .Slow riding with little dust around seems to work .As soon as there is dust and the sun is low ,you can hardly make out anything .Cellphone photo still better .To answer your Q .No !it was not worth it !
  15. Yup correct ! I now carry 2 tubes and rather use a small pump instead of a bomb for a road tyre .This whole road race group action does not appeal to me anyhow .I would rather ride singletract with my SS .Road cycling just seems so much more dangerous

At Emperors race with 25 km to go i got a snakebite puncture in the rear tyre .Unfortunately i could not control the bomb regulator and burst my only spare tube .There i was with no tube ,no bomb ,no pump and not even a second look from the groups speeding past .Finished the race on the back of the sweeper bakkie
  17. Thanks for holding our names high ,i have to agree on the spares issue .Sometimes they have spares for the wrong type of valve and then you are stuck

I train there on my own all the time .Klapperkop is good to build some climbing legs .The route that ends up at the tower is close to what you can expect at MM .On weekends there will be plenty riders training there .Do the loop in both directions along the fence .Head of to groenkloof for some singletract and moderate hills or ride some of the steep waterkloof roads like Premier street .There are plenty places to train in this area alone and you can fill up your waterbottle at klapperkop .For long rides 3h plus we usually head to pta east area
  19. Started my Mm training in earnest today. Intensity level up at 90 % or cramps will get the better of me again .If i don,t cramp i can ride a sub 5h time .At 100kg this is a tall order ,but what a challenge !

  21. Try and do some of the road events .More options open up immediately .Plenty Gautengers do them on their mtb,s . We arn,t that serious about appearances
  22. I agree completely .I am by no means a big meat eater ,but not a vegetarian either .I avoid chicken because it is tastes like warmed up polystyrene .Fish and red meat are healthy and tasty .I cannot think of anything healthier than Karoo lamb

Ask John Smit how he lost weight for the epic .Calorie restriction diet and training .I practiced as a barriatric Doctor for 18months .I had wonderful results but all of it is temporarily if the patient still puts the wrong stuff in their mouths .The lotions potions Hormones and pills all help to make the individual restrict their calorie intake .As you age you have to eat less because your metabolism slows down .The hormone replacements and metabolic enhancers the patients received made weight loss happen faster ,but had very little effect if they did not stick to calorie restriction also .ALCOHOL and CARBOHYDRATES are and is and will still be the mayor contributing factors of unsuccessful weight loss .If eating and drinking was not part of our social pleasures we would all be within our normal weight .
