    Who remembers?

Fourways drive Inn .Fourways Golf course ,now Dainfern .Lonehill was a lone hill with baboons and dassies .I rode there alone on my Raleigh 21 speed when I was 10 years old .Fishing in the jukskei river was safe and clean
  3. i can only imagine what type of crap (really)you can get in an open wound riding the spuit .I mean spruit
  4. If you cannot ride a technical climb and more importantly a descent then you are in for a long day every day .The climbs and descents are long and steep ,but mostly rideable .Stop and look around ,take in as much as you can .You might never pass that spot again
  5. The last bit was the part that i enjoyed .Those technical climbs on a HT are no fun .A couple of us ended up in a thick muddy area when we got lost .That was actually a better secton than when we returned to the real route
  6. No problem .You will probably be in better shape for CPT than epic .After the first event you will be less motivated to train that hard again .The mistake will be to overtrain .On Dryland,s website there is a 12week training program that will prepare you for both .If you follow the program and do quality instead of quantity there should be no problem
  7. Maybe you are not realizing when things are broken ,like your keypad !
  8. I did the pioneer in 2012 on an anthem .It was my first more than 3 day event .I have since sold the frame and am now riding a SC tallboy and I have a highball also .I am realizing now what an exceptionally good frame an anthem is .It was my first FSB so I had nothing to compare it to .You can spend a lot more money ,but you won't get anything better to ride the CPT with .With regard to riding it on a HT .Yes ! if you weigh 60kg and do a lot of standing climbs and could be a pro if you had the time .No! bad idea if you are a mortal like the rest of us .If money was not an option there are so many great bikes out there like Cannondale, BMC, Cube, Scott, Santa Cruz ext .And if you need an image boost there is always Spez bling-works or a spez pimpjumper to try out .Ducking and covering my head !Hiding behind my wife !
  9. All good so far .Look at the trance also
  10. I rode the first 20km with a to low saddle and that caused me to cramp early .Once i fixed that things were better but the damage was done .Cramped intermittently the rest of the event .Also rode on a different bike and the changed geometry contributes to cramping
  11. Ride it ! .Punish it ! Excellent as is !
  12. Haai K Was jy by Hakahana vandag ?
  13. Today's Hakahana trail seeker was as technical as I would like to ride .I walked a lot and made it safely home .I did see some exceptional descending skills from youngsters and some very brave adults that I am sure do not need their full functioning body to earn a living .I am very impressed with my new XTR brakes .I had no problem stopping and controlling my 100kg frame down those treacherous descents .My old avid,s would have screamed and boiled in the same situation
  14. What a hard day .Finished the marathon in 4h56 .Cramped from 90minutes in the race and got lost halfway and rode an extra 8 minutes looking for the route .Punctured on the best surface we rode all day .Safe and unhurt after those descents i will take any day .Rode on a hard tail today .I missed my full suspension bike from the start
  15. My hope freehub lookes exactly like this .Tapping from behind got it out .
  16. I carry both .Bomb,s work well for mtb tyre but on a road tube you can easily overinflate and burst your only spare tube like i did recently .The regulater gets worn and sometimes the thread on the cartrige is so banged up from saddlebag abuse that it does not screw into the regulator
  17. Last year there was 6weeks of discussion after Van Gaalen,s and how tough technical it was and riders got hurt ext .This year it was a Mtn race that was sofend and the after race discussion did not even make 2pages .Why ! Because it wasn,t challenging enough .There is a part of mtb ,ing where walkingis the only option to get you to the next section .In a70km event ,walking a couple of meters makes the differance to betweena challenge and just another dirt track event
  18. Maxxis ardent front .crossmark rear or geax saguaro rear will give plenty problem free km and cheaper than the other snakeskin tyres that are excellent but expensive
  19. Nobby nic in front has great grip in almost any terrain and the front tyre can rn at lower pressures like 1,6 that will give plenty grip even if it is narrower .Worst front tyre is probably a crossmark
  20. Nobby nic in front at 1.8 bar carried my 100kg frame around flawlessly on a mavic rim .Replaced with x-king [the bestest front tyre ] followed by maxxis ardent .There are many better tyres as a rear tyre like race-king ,crossmark ,saguaro .Vrendensteins are soft like babies feet .The best priced longlasting combo imo is ardent front and saguaro rear
  21. That pic was taken after 125km and still 5km to go .The 3 km dam wall felt as if it will never end , especially difficult as you can see the campsite on the other side and your brain switches to rest and beer mode without your permission
  22. I have just acquired a highball also .Real racer and super fast and light .There is something exciting riding a superb 29er hard tail
  23. If you get the right spot over there it is a good place to live
  24. My next tubeless conversion will be my son,s 24 inch wheelset .He is the last one in the family still on tubes and dad has had enough practice fixing tube,s by now
  25. Yes .Had to replace my hope freewheel hub for that reason after 3 years
