  1. You take your tyres off and clean out the old sealant. Go and buy some sealant at you LBS and put about 60-75ml in there while you remount the tyres. I usually go the BP close to my house and use their pump to get the tyres seated on the rim again. Some tubeless tyres you will be able to get seated with a floor pump and some elbow grease, but others you will need compressed air... Its a very easy job...
  2. HI geemobee, Once the conversion is done, you dont need to do it again, so once the tyres are worn out you look for a special and get some new tubeless tyres for half price - thats my approach anyway... As for maintenence, you just need to make sure that you top up the tubeless sealant every now and then. About every 2 months I take my tyres off and replace the sealant. It dries up after a while which renders it useless so you need to replace it every now and then. And avoid using CO2 bombs as far as possible. That screws up your sealant as well.
  3. Thanks for the feedback Fritz, Just one point regarding the numbers. It sounds like all your planning was done for 1000-1500 riders. Why not place a cap on the number of entries if you know any more would cause havoc like this? Most of the problems was caused because you planned for a lot less people than actually entered. I loved the route by the way. Some proper mountainbiking!!!
  6. Get the 310XT or 910XT quick release kit. Thats got a strap which works with the Quarter turn fitting I got mine directly from Garmin
  7. Does anybody have more information on what happened with the finish of the Ultra. I saw on Twitter that Charles was not a happy camper with the signage at the end as he took a wrong turn and effectively lost the race. I did watch the video of Lourens at the finish and he mentioned that he listened to what was said at the start and thus knew that second time around he had to follow the right boards. I see in the Cannondale newsletter they are still investigating this.
  8. Silverbacks guarantee would only cover the frame if it fails. Component failure(chain, derailleur etc) would not be covered.
  9. Maxxis Ikons. It was more bad luck than anything else. Refilled my sealant earlier in the week as well. Lost about 20mins due to the tyres
  10. I have to agree with everyones sentiments. The route was really great, no problems there. Although I had 7 punctures I still finished with a decent time. The waterpoints was shocking for such a big race. Even the girls at the waterpoints admitted that there were only roped in on Wednesday and it was the first time ever which they had to do a waterpoint at a cycle race. That is ridiculous if you look at all the races Fritz and Co has organised over the years!!! The merging of the routes at the end was a disaster. You would think that they have learnt their lesson at the Trailseeker series but NO, they still think its a good idea. Anyway the riding was great, so for that I will be back. But I have learnt not to expect to much from Advendurance...
  11. I have used them for a lot of stuff as they are the closest to my workplace. Always had excellent service from them. Great bunch of guys
  12. You can still enter online... From Twitter Dis-Chem Ride for Sight 2014 is now been extended to the 6 February closing at 23:00. Go to cycleevents.co.za to enter!
  13. If it was in your house at the time it was taken I think you can claim under your home contents insurance. If it was in the garden though, you dont have a chance
  14. I tested out some Specialized bikes over the weekend with 1x11 groupsets, and I would personally go for the 34 teeth...
  15. As far as I know he is riding with Brandon Stewart isn't he?
  16. I also think Phil and Nino will win a stage or maybe two but not the overall. I will put my money on Erik and Nico taking the african jersey and maybe even a podium spot, if they don't have to provide to much backup for Suzi and Rabon...
  17. I think you will lose the bonus points at dischem but you will get all the bonus points for the fitness assessment after they have checked your actual body fat percentage... I think because the Vitality check is easy points to get, they wont be changing the way they measure it very soon.
  18. Go for a fitness assesment at Virgin(also counts for discovery points). There they actually measure your fat%. BMI is the easiest way for discovery to check the majority of the population. From Vitality's website: Body mass index (BMI) – BMI is a widely accepted, reliable indicator of a person’s weight status. As a screening tool it is appropriate for the majority of the population. However, because the BMI calculation is dependent only on a person’s weight and height it may give an inaccurate indication of body composition in certain populations, for example in pregnant women and body builders. In these cases body fat percentage or waist circumference measures may be more accurate. I don't work for discovery or anything but I know quite a few people who has complained about this...
  19. Doing the marathon on saturday and half on sunday. Same as last year. Love this event!!!
  20. I was contemplating doing the Ultra, but I think I will stick with the standard Marathon...
