  1. will only be in late july
  2. That is exactly what I will be doing, as soon as I have the main route sorted I will take small groups out over a few weekends, starting with everyone on this thread, That way we build a trail that we want
  3. LOL I hope we can keep it tame, but if you feel the need to push yourself you can, one thing is for sure we will have some wild tales in the pub afterwards
  4. If you want to come ride the first sections with me and explore some of the options add your name to this thread, I think we will have some rideable trails in late August, so I can take you out onto the trails and show you around then.
  5. something i did not mention is that there are "watering points" where you can get a borrie roll, cool-drink, beer, repair a puncture, cool down in a pool or get an escape route via district roads back to your car
  6. Tell you what guys I am looking to create a technical enduro type track that will be tough (realy tough if you ride the climbs) in a star type configuration. So you have a main circular route made up of single track and jeep track, roughly 20kms, not flat but a little more technical than say Groenkloof. From that circular route you will have other loops which will be steep climbs but awesome downhills downhills, enduro type sections, something like the Clarens 40km had in the last 10kms. All the looks together would get you over 50kms but with A LOT OF CLIMBING. Have I ridden it yet? Yes some sections on the mountain bike, others on the motorbike. There is still a lot of work needed to get the downhills flowing, but that starts next month. Just trying to gauge what others think we need as a training area
  7. Here is the profile of a 20km loop 827m of climbing, just to give you an idea of what can be done here
  8. can tell just yet, lets just say 30 mins drive from centurion and sandton in a NW direction :-)
  9. I have access to 4 adjoining farms in the Gauteng area, the landscape is typical of the region and dotted with 200m high koppies. The technical riding potential would to be fantastic with only 20% of the route on jeep track, the bulk of the track would be single track along valleys in typical african bush, with steep technical climbs and broad smiling descents. the route would consist of a 20km ring route, with different short loops branching off the ring route, The 20km ring route would have 450m of climbing, with +-1200m of climbing possible over the whole 50km route. Is this to tough? personally I feel this would help me in training for some of the races out there. The downhills would have rockgardens, berms, roots, trees, dropoffs, loose corners and the odd kudu. Maybe one or 2 chicken lines. What do you think?
  10. I think it would be a good idea to arrange a "tech night" group of us get together, have 2 bikes that need some work done, the owners can learn how to do it themselves, with those of us who know what we are doing showing them the ropes. A few beers, some meat on the braai and helping each other. I will sponsor the centurion venue........
  11. I See there is a new full suspension frame, anyone seen this yet? http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Light-weight-29ER-Full-Carbon-Fiber-Mountain-bike-bicycle-frame-Suspension-MTB-Bike-Bicycle-Frame/921274_841993652.html
  12. it is great for oiling wood 185 liters should last a while
  13. what does a 185kg drum go for?
  14. well looking at saseeding he finished 3rd overall at Clarens, running top 10 at Sani2c and 15th in the ultra at Sabie. Not to shabby.
  15. get to the front, put on your thick skin you will be abused for passing people, eventually you will have a seeding that will allow you to start with people riding at your pace. Always scream passing right, before passing on the right. What ever you do, don't pass on the left for some reason the rider in front always goes left what ever you shout, or they just flip you the bird and flame you on the hub afterwards. When passing in single track pick areas where there is long grass, rocks, anthills, trees and fallen logs to execute your pass, it will keep the blood flowing and bring huge enjoyment to the single track section, not to mention the technical riding experience you will get. End of the day try start with guys riding your pace
  16. a site for ali frames and components, http://www.quaadlife.com/en/2_1656/product.html anyone managed to buy from them?
  17. The SA Seeding system takes an average your top 3 results and uses this formula to calculate your seed for every event Ri = 100 - 100 x Winning Time (in seconds) x Race Weight Finish Time (in seconds) Now each event has a weighting based on the distance you do and popularity of the event. Trouble is that your first race will have you in one of the last 2 batches, so your result is not going to be earth shattering and you are going to be called all sorts of names when you pass people. Your 2nd and 3rd race will have a slightly better seeding, and every race that you get a better result will improve your seeding. Eventually you will start with like minded people and the guys happily cruising at the back will stop swearing at you, looking for you on the podium and find someone else trying to get a better seeding to direct their energy at. But until your index is way better, you will continually be abused every time you pass someone in the single track, lurkers in the long grass will be waiting for you and bottlenecks will continually break your rhythm. Point is I enter a race to do exactly that, race...... continually improve my performance, measuring myself against other "racers", in order to do that i need better results, every second counts to a better seeding.
  18. but they got a better seeding B)
  19. mine has been loaded, finally dropped quite a bit, lets see where we seed for rooiberg. I Keep finishing in the top third starting from the last batch
  20. to seed better you need to finish the race better,.........
  21. The seeding system sucks, Started in K and the bottlenecks where silly, Had to pass so many people and was stationary for 8 minutes, without stopping at the water points. Frustrating day
  22. Well I am in K for the half, not sure if there is a L batch so could be 80 to a batch
  23. I am running std protection x-king tyres on 2 bikes, one the knoblies ripped off, leaked sealant and got replaced, The other not a days problem. Both running stans
  24. Worked through my LBS Tool-up Cycles, took 3 days and everything was sorted
  25. take it back, Conti replaced mine under warranty, this is also linked to the leaking look carefully at the sidewall you can see the canvas through the rubber.
