  1. That's just one of my talents While the rivers were deeper than I've ever seen them, they were all mostly ridable. We did our best time yet - so given the 45 minutes the rivers added, we would have done around 8:45 As for results - this is all I have (thanks to my wife and her phone) - well done to Coimbra
  2. 45 minutes? The water going to slow us down that much? Leopard crawling all the water crossings will still only take about 10 minutes extra...
  3. If you get to CP 3 by around 4 you should be able to get up and over BergPlaas before dark - provided there is no faffing at the top.
  4. Before Bergplaas, just after CP 3. Your bum will get wet from all the other river crossings after Bergplaas though
  5. I've been dreaming about a belt drive SS/geared bike for ages. Check out http://spotbrand.com/bikes/
  6. He's got to ride at least one race with a gold bike and pimped kit and helmet... http://www.cyclingfans.net/2012/images/2012_clasica_san_sebastian_alexandre_vinokourov_gold_bike1a.jpg
  7. Late reply - my apologies The chamois is ok - good enough for a 4 hour ride. The sizing is a little out - I usually wear a L bib, but the ones from Mupi are a little tight, but not unwearable. Shipping was something like $10, and both times I've ordered customs weren't interested in the package.
  8. 90% of maize grown in SA is genetically modified. FutureLife now indicate that their product now may contain genetically modified maize and soy beans. Just tried the new strawberry flavour and I think the chocolate flavour now has competition in our house. Thank goodness for the bulk packs - otherwise we'd be heading off to the shops almost weekly to restock
  9. I do that with Cycle Addiction all the time, and even ask to be charged extra for the stuff they are good at - like putting the bits on my bike, or servicing shocks. I have no issue paying for good service, I just don't like buying something knowing I can get it cheaper elsewhere.
  10. I don't think so - you're still going to be in for a long day out, you're still going to look after yourself exactly as you would in the Kloof. It's just going to take a little longer. The best strategy for a first timer is water point to water point. And have fun - after all - that's the reason you're doing this.
  11. Rather surprisingly, I hate MOAC way more than the Grootrivier climb. I've spent many a sunset walking up to Bergplaas, with the occasional purging of stomach contents along the way, while we were able to ride the whole up the Grootrivier climb. That said, I still think LangsBaviaans is tougher than the real Baviaans, and not nearly as scenic as riding through the Kloof.
  12. Not wanting to rush you Disylizzy - but it is August
  13. Did the crime, did the time - move along, nothing to see here.
  14. Cool video. I like the gentle start - none of this sprint for 1km to find your bike Le Mans style stuff... 500kms is seriously good going - well done.
  15. You'd think they would be able to file an injunction correctly, and not get scolded by a judge for not doing the basics...
  16. Armstong's blood values: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m72sm83Gsm1qia2qvo1_1280.png I'm not a doctor, and don't really understand this, but from a stats point of view the red dots do look suspiciously out of place when compared to the green dots.
  17. I don't think Pat McQuaid even has a clue what is going on in his own organisation, let alone anyone else's: UCI President Mistaken Over USADA Case: “I’ve read what they’ve said but as they’re not licence holders so I don’t know how they can ban them or what they can be banned for” “From the UCI’s point of view we can’t see how these guys can be sanctioned for life,” said McQuaid. “They are not UCI licence holders, so under what grounds can they be sanctioned?” Those are the words of the Pat McQuaid, president of cycling’s governing body, the UCI. The first quote is after speaking to cyclingnews.com, the second is after speaking to Velonews. He was commenting today on the lifetime ban issued by the US Anti-Doping Agency to Luis Garcia del Moral, Michele Ferrari and Jose “Pepe” Martí, all three staff or helpers of the US Postal Cycling team. Only President McQuaid needs to check the UCI rulebook . The anti-doping code applies to all licence holders, that is obvious. But Article 18 says it applies to all team staff as well, even if they have no team licence. So there are good grounds for the UCI to apply USADA’s ban worldwide. Here is the relevant rule (my emphasis) Non-License-Holders 18. 1. a ) Any Person who, without being a holder of a license, participates in a cycling Event in any capacity whatsoever, including, without limitation, as a rider, coach, trainer, manager, team director, team staff, agent, official, medical or para-medical personnel or parent and; b ) Any Person who, without being a holder of a license, participates, in the framework of a club, trade team, national federation or any other structure participating in Races, in the preparation or support of riders for sports competitions; shall be subject to these Anti-Doping Rules and these Anti-Doping Rules shall apply to each such Person as they apply to a License-Holder.
  18. Cyclismas is rapidly becoming my favourite blog: The Legend of the 500 Lance is the most tested athlete, amateur or professional in the history of sport. We don’t know exactly the number but we think it’s around 300 separate tests that he’s undergone and he has never had a positive test. Tim Herman, Lawyer to Lance Armstrong, July 2010 Throughout his twenty-plus year professional career, Mr. Armstrong has been subjected to 500 to 600 drug tests without a single positive test Civ. Action No. 1:12–cv–00606–SS July 2012 http://dimspace.co.uk/lancetesthistory.png
  19. Don't confuse stupidity for speed - I have loads of the former, and not much of the latter
  20. goya-goya - firstly, there are a wealth of other punctuation marks aside from the ellipsis - they are all feeling rather left out in your posts and my mind wanders off every time I see one. Secondly, "comfortable satisfaction" can be replaced with "balance of probabilities". The standard is met if the proposition is more likely to be true than not true. No room for subjectivity. Thirdly, the arbitration panel is made up of either one or three independent experts who hear evidence from both sides and make a decision based on the standard above. Lastly, I realise that you are probably just trolling
  21. Anna Zimmerman of 150wattsofawesome has a nice blogpost on why Lance should just shut it: http://150wattsofawesome.blogspot.com/2012/06/muting-lance-armstrong.html
  22. From BikeRadar: Notable author Richard Moore suggested one solution for those who object to the antics: "If you don't like Sagan's victory celebrations there's one good way to stop them, chaps." His colleague Daniel Freibe agrees. "So, are Sagan's celebrations obnoxious? I say no - like he said in presser, people will tune in to see what he does next. Great for sport." There is no word yet from the UCI, which regulates everything from sock height to saddle tilt, on whether it would follow the National Football League in banning excessive victory celebrations.
