  1. Cool podium pictures - in a parking garage??
  2. I think you missed my point - I only wanted a time based challenge when lumping all sports together - making it easier to compare the effort people are putting into different sports. If you only ride on the road - please ignore this conversation... Anyway, all my training is time based (and yours should be too). If the program says do 4 hours, I do 4 hours, even if it means riding around the block 5 times to get the extra 3 minutes.
  3. One of those mysteries that no one knows. Up there with JFK, missing socks, and belly button lint... Do what I did - mail them a ranting raving letter about this same problem. They'll ignore you outright, but you'll feel better for having vented. Then carry on with your life.
  4. But I am busy peaking for Fun Ride World Champs - perhaps next month when I have a free weekend
  5. Thanks DisyLizzy - I think this makes it more of a challenge, the big winners both being mountain bikers. And it's good to see new faces on the board as well. (Didn't help my cause at all, but closed the gap to CVANC a little)
  6. My point exactly - but only when comparing different sports. I did 330km in 24hrs on a mountain bike, which I can do in 9 hours on a road bike (or six hours on the rollers). Overall should be about time spent exercising, in any form, and the only way to compare is to use a common unit. The Overall challenge is the only challenge where people who do different sports can be competitive. I'll never be able to compete with the guys who do just one sport as I split my time up into several sports. Just saying.
  7. I see the Tour de Langkawi is on at the moment. Where is the SA team? Seems like we've gone from having GC contenders to not even putting in a team. And I bet CSA will blame this on Pedal Power, Cell C and anyone else they can think of...
  8. I don't want to be picky or anything, but shouldn't the Overall challenge be time based rather than KM based. Otherwise it's comparing apples with oranges with pears. One hour on the trainer is more than an hour on the road, which is more than an hour commuting, which is more than an hour on the MTB.
  9. I thought point 2 below was interesting (from an email CSA sent out on the 18th of Feb): As from 1 January 2013, the following will apply: All cycling events will have to be sanctioned by CyclingSA via the provincial affiliates. This is to ensure that all events are run in a safe environment with all the necessary measures in place, such as traffic regulations and safety aspects. All events seeking TV coverage will have to be endorsed by CyclingSA How on earth do they plan to regulate that? And why?
  10. Cool - keep an eye out for me, and then we can chill at the back again
  11. Pete is looking quite strong at the moment. Not bad for a tennis player...
  12. It was Warren (Virgin Active kit, deep sections and facial hair) and another guy that got away at the top of Smits. It was also Warren who led us up Ou Kaapse, and then with 3kms to go rode off the front in a dash for the line. CVANC was wearing Manic Cycles kit.
  13. Very sneaky indeed. It was rather pedestrian when we chatted, and you were complaining about not being fast or strong. Pfft! 40kms off the front on your own just proves you wrong!
  14. Ok Mr Houdini Ninja CVANC - how, where, and when did you ride off the front of A? I thought Warren's mad dash 3kms from the end was good enough, even though he was caught on the line. did you use your invisibility cloak and pull a fast on over all of us?
  15. Doesn't count if you didn't buy it new in the 80s. My oldest piece of equipment still in daily use is my Avenir bike knife that I bought at Flandria in 1997. I've also got some Flandria tops from that era that I haven't worn in ages.
  16. Slicks? That one rocky section at the end of Stage Two might be a bit tricky though. Slime tubes and liners will be fine - no need to do a tubeless conversion if you don't have to. Your only concern at Sani is mud, otherwise it's a pretty forgiving course with few thorns or rocky, technical sections.
  17. Dude, it's the Argus - not some local church fun ride. It's not called the Fun Ride World Champs for nothing. Save the "lekker jol" for those small regional races like the 94.7. I'm pretty sure my missus would be keen to race your missus and you - if she wins the South gets two points! Foe Fighter - race two of the 3D loser competition happens this Sunday, and I think CrashTestDummy is eager to hand back the floating trophy - beware...
  18. I thought the North had given up trying to beat the South. Glad to see this *might* be on again. South; A group ('cause apparently I suck at being a SubVet - thanks CycleTour); As fast as possible
  19. Give these guys a call ( http://capecycletours.com/). I know they are putting on a 4 day self sufficient tour in the Overberg in 2 weeks time...
  20. Just like at the 2009 Epic when Burry pretzelled his front wheel. Who do you think complained to the UCI about Max Knoxx getting a lift on a quad after giving Burry his wheel?
  21. You got cow troubles? Could be more cleat related than saddle height related. Check your shoes, cleats, pedal float. Or it could be a muscle strain. Time for some rest and stretching?
  22. Dude - this is a public forum. You shouldn't be sharing such info. Your reputation will never recover. Took me 3 years to get over being destroyed by the most unlikely looking woman at the Epic in 2009...
  23. You're the pink guy I almost switched going up Fisantekraal hill after realising that I wasn't going to hook on to Fourie's wheel.... sorry
  24. I was on my bike - it's quicker to get to work by bike than by car
  25. I did miss a turn every now and then - it was either that or wave good bye. And each turn came so quickly. I made sure not to ride behind the C rider int he pink - it always looked like a massive effort go through after his turn
