  1. where you buying CUBE and whats the price ? Merida top of the range not bad for what you get - and very light
  2. why you walking with your cycling shoes ?? spend a little less on the bike and buy a pair of shoes - its amazing how comfy they are when walking compared to cycling shoes with speedplay cleats don't you walk to your table after securing your bike to against a wall for you mid ride coffee break? Do you get on your bike as soon as you leave the house? Don't you put your foot down when stop at a red light or stop street? Anyway, if I spend any less on my road bike they will reposes it. I just bought new road shoes because my other pair I bought 7 years ago is going now. I almost died having to fork out R860. jaja - joking with you. Stopping at red lights... bance your bike in CT SE haha. otherwise a light touch down with the cleat on the tar. I dont drink coffee when out training, never stop anywere. Out training not sight seeing, or eating out that quite a Euro way of training. If if get older and don't have to work so hard, have more spare time I'll train like that.
  3. every sport has its own "thing" and ethics - like keeping left if your slower than the rest of the bunch, spitting at the back of the bunch and not in the middle of the field etc... for the rest of it - act smart and use your head - like dont swerve all over the road. Dont take out your water bottle in the middle of the bunch and drop it. Dont ride in the middle of the road... basically general road rules for cars. You'll learn all the little thingies along the way. Sometimes the hard way. Just be friendly and don't become a grumpy / I own the road / windgat guy later on.
  4. I believe that every person is responsible for the OWN safety' date=' not wearing a helmet you will only hurt yourself, cycling side by side and pushing me into the road will hurt ME so I will speak up.... Makes any sense? [/quote'] I like. Its like drinking and driving. I, from a cyclist and from a fellow motorist perspective, dont mind if someone gets hammered, drives off the road killing himself - he brought it over himself. The problem comes in that when a drunk of drugged driver drives into me cycling or into me driving - thats something to speak out about and not cool. everything people to to put themselves into danger - I dont mind, its your choice. Not wearing a seat belt, helmet etc - its your own thing, own problem. Makes the point clear. huge difference to Illegal and dangerous.
  5. True. They do give some money towards developing trails - but I feel that money should come from MTB races etc. Road racing and fun rides should "sponsor" its own development and race prices. MOre money will make it more interesting and more serious racing and carreers. More international riders, more coverage and bigger scheme in SA. Its all towards a better SA. Imagine you get some new international riders to come race the argus, or international teams to do Giro etc. Maybe some of them then decide to come train here in the future and do the Giro and maybe tour of Boland as prep for summer season in Europe. Them coming here will promote cycling, up the game, bring more money to SA though tourism and develop sport. It all starts with people not wanting to gain more than they deserve out of something. Cover cost - pay decent salaries, but in the end the riders and cycling should benefit
  6. I'm a fat' date=' black, dwarfish, disabled, lesbian with a lisp & a jewish grandmother. You gonna have to face it, anything you say is gonna offend. [/quote'] suck it up then. too bad. fat is fat and skinny sick is skinny sick
  7. I think I figured it out. It all about gatkruip and making money... saying something is for "charity" - that makes the government happy and they allow the race or event to take place by not being to full of sh*t about technical stuff, because developing/previously disadvantaged kids get something in return. Bullsh*t- I'm sure being white does not make me priviously disadvantaged, but i cant really say I've ever had a advantage above anyone else. went to school, studied, working (no ral advantage there) sport wise - the "previous government and this one" never sponsored me anything in any way. sure its good to have charity causes - and I like the idea of getting kids to do sport - but then have one or 2 events for that - the rest just racing and paying for what you get. if you wanna be involved in charity then do it. Why should charity take over the responsibilities of the government ?? They waste money - live luxurious lifestyles and don't give a dam about their people and their conditions... ok , back to happy times. Close to lunch!
  8. I don't agree with the PPA and Argus giving all that money to charity. If I wanna give cash to charity - I will. For me I cycle and its important that the cash spend on races go towards the race - better marshaling, better price money and the development of racing in general. Having more tours and more racing - winter league again etc. Why can they decide to make you pay for charity. Let say a race cost them for example R50 per rider, but they ask R150 or more for the race! Indirect they cover their cost and then just hand all the extra cash to charity....??! Stupid!. Rather cover cost then put the rest of the cash towards kit for our national team, creating more races, giving bigger race prices. If anything else - they should scrap the extra amount and make it affordable to race every weekend. So basically cover cost then. I'd be keen if the ask a little more and then use that to put back into racing etc. if you want to donate to charity then give to that charity.
  9. its a fact. not sure what race you are, but I'm referring to Zulu and Xhosa - generally black SA'cans. I work with them and they believe that a woman should have a full figure and the man should be big - that's a form of health and wealth for them. No disrespect or anything intended from my side. Just saying. They think our supper skinny girlfriends are sick and might have TB and HIV - hahaha. Cultures are different and nothing can make either party change. So just saying - fat white people can be lucky that there are lots of fat people in SA other than whites - because the will never change the rules when the ruling party will be affected. At the same time - other cultures in Africa have very skinny and tall black people , some of them living in SA - so not generalizing.
  10. let fat people pay - this way they will be forced to loose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.... but... This tactic will not work in SA, because our fellow country men and woman are very big - because its a symbol of "health and wealth"... so by doing that it will be racist and a discrimination thing again ...

  12. swimming.... cross train it a bit. Forget about running and riding for now. Focus on the flexibility around the operated area and try and keep fit with swimming. Pool noodle running will also help with the movement with almost no resistance and pressure on the leg. I'm no doc - but had similar problem with knee/leg/hamstring tendon - no operation though but rather take it slow and make full recovery than vice versa
  13. Thought you were trying to figure out what the most used pedal is... read the topic again and saw where your coming from. I love my speedplays on Road bike and Look's on MTB - both allow enough float for my buggered left leg
  14. Not many bikes come with expensive pedals like LOOK, SPEEDPLAY, TIME and CRANK BRO's So Shimano being the default on most bikes, and some other brands as well Guess there's more Shimano out there than what we think. Not sure what the "standard / default" setup is on EUROPEAN bikes ?
  15. if you wanna spend time with he it would be better to have a MTB then. But if you want he to do her own thing now and again, a road bike. this way you can go and ride on your own etc. but buying her a road bike and not a new MTB might create problems in the long run and she would like to have a NEW mtb as well. go MTB. except if you buy both of you new road bikes ?
  16. http://www.racetec.co.za/GetResults.asp?Post=true&RiderID=359199 don't think this rider will clock another race on RACETEC any time soon
