  1. 2nd thread here is the first one: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=79530&KW=argus
  2. if he still raced elite / invitational ? What would be the outcome ? that would be interesting .... strong rider
  3. Of course it's worth their while. They all knew the prize purse before the event yet still felt it worthwhile to enter because that is how their sponsors get coverage. If the pro teams didn't start the Argus then the only difference to the other 35000 riders is that there would be 60 or 70 less people finishing in front of them. Yeah obviously thats why the sponsor in the first place - to get the company name out there. but the fact is - riders don't get paid more as the company gets more clients. So from the race organizers they can do more towards giving the rider / riders a decent prize to work for. Surely some teams get a bonus or something if they win - but hell - this is the Argus and its a very big thing to win it, so at least they can give the riders more. Imagine a international team wins it - R16 000 = only 1573 ? thats not a lot. If they made it more then the team can decide to split it into team income and maybe a bit for charity if
  4. Yep - Stander also said that on the finish. Guess he did not play a part' date=' but surely made riders more aware and wake up for attacks ?Glad he just let the race proceed as its should without intervening. Would have been stupid to try and drop a bunch of GIRO riders, if your the one with the fresh legs on race day, I also think he underestimated the sprinting capabilities of the breakaway. Was it worth it to consider Daryll for a sprint win against the other riders like lange ,van heerden, stander etc ? For me he is more a GC rider - climber ?[/quote'] You have no idea do you? No offence. None taken have no idea because I wasn't there and couldn't see anything on the poor broadcast on SABC. I'm stating my thoughts and asking
  5. Race radio's were banned for the GIRO, right ? And Argus ? As well ? just asking. From now on no race radios in any race in SA, right ? According to the UCI's new rule that banned radios for all Juniors and cat 1 racers down..

  7. Heard that as well... would be interesting to hear what they see as expenses. Guess they don't see that the Argus is a hell of a cash injection to the tourist industry in cape town and surrounding areas. as a whole the City of Cape town benefits alot from the Argus.
  8. its crazy!!! What expenses do they have ? All drinks and food - sponsored by P&P Traffic cops - payed by government and City of Cape Town Paramedics - " " TV - sh*t - can't imagine paying for that poor broadcast!! but either way - SABC = government owned so prob payed for by government. Surely the organizers don't have to pay Cape Town to "use" the road etc - I mean its a moerse income for Cape town. So lets take R240 as average entry fee (see below prices) +- 38 000 riders x R240 = R 9 120 000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so where did all the cash go ? If its like this, I can only imagine the organizers would love to have the Argus more than once a year then! Argus prices "If you are a member of a Cycling Club or Association affiliated to Cycling South Africa, their entry fee is R260. If you are a valid PPA member, you receive a R30 discount and your entry fee is R230. If you do not belong to either a Club or Association affiliated to Cycling South Africa, then your entry fee is R295. This includes the cost of a "One day event licence". International entrants pay R450 and African entrants pay R300."
  9. not quite. there were 156 giro riders and not all 156 got sub3 thats why I only posted 128/156 in $...
  10. Cool man, well done! 84th - Stuart Marais - TRI-athlete - just off the pace of your group Super ride by him as well. Colonel give us some feedback on the race (as we could not see sh*t on SABC). When did the lead group break away? The bits I could follow was the attacks by DCM all the way from the start and MTN chasing the breaks. Next update and footage - the lead group is 1:40ish ahead and no one doing any chancing - later DCM too the lead in the main bunch but to no avail.

  12. they cant blame the wind for poor broadcasting. The shots from the helicopter were so terrible!! who can see the action from 1000m!!! and the contrast were terrible - either the road were to bright almost white and the surroundings were in focus, or the other way around. Surely 1-2 camera bikes would be enough to do decent coverage and maby a few stationary cameras along the route. AND WHY did the switch in between the start line and race and other sh*t while the race were going. I mean - at least show the RACE RACE and then one can show the clowns and sh*t at the start line etc. I think its pathetic. They have all the equipment but screws it up on the day. Blaming the wind to say the choppers could not be up and ready is pathetic - bikes would have been better than the crap they broadcasted. Supersport should do the race and SABC can do the start line crap. Another terrible thing - the photo finish!! HOW could the judges get that wrong??? The first announced that Burry came in 3rd - but the video/ photo finish clearly show Daryll pushing ahead for Burry to take 3rd! Its just SWAK!! "Saying something like - it better than nothing is just stupid" Either you do something good or you just don't do it and get someone who can. Another shocking thing for me - the small prizes !!! WHAT only 16K for first place????? Someone is making a sh*t load of cash
  13. Cyclist = people , and some people are RETARDED Motorist = people, and some of them are also RETARDED if you have no sense of safety and logic is only a word in the dictionary - no-one and nothing will be able to help you. Cant feel sorry for someone who creates digs his own grave, by not thinking
  14. A SA'can won. Thats great enough - and its a pro / ex pro. We can all just be glad the racing is up there - that no international team can come and dominate it, or no young / junior newbie can come and win stages etc. So who cares who won. There are only a few guys out there just riding there bikes for a living - and they are the one's that should win - otherwise there is a problem. Most guys are either students cycling, or working guys fitting the racing to their lifestyle. Only a handfull do it full-time - year round - ... pro's. MTB or road - if your pro you ride the bike and get the mileage in
  15. send me a bunch of Think bike stickers and I will put them on all signboards on the most frequently cycled routes in and around the Stellenbosch / Somerset west / Klipheuwel / Joostenberg area - on my own cost (driving around) lots of people here driving with the stickers on their cars.
  16. don't know why people don't stop at red traffic lights. Its dodgy in a car - now imagine being hit by a car from the side! the positive side of a stop is that you get to start again and work those muscles. for others this is a great time to have a drink (because its too dodgy when they are moving) one other thing.... DONT ride on small roads (with no shoulder) in peak traffic!
  17. Black "Masking tape" Someone can pitch at the start with a few rolls and wrap everyone who's keen.
  18. Hi If my setback (behind BB) is 6cm with a 27cm long Selle italia , and I want to fit a Fizik Arione 30cm length - what should my setback be ? Consider that all 3 cm length difference in the Arione is not all just to the nose - I guess its like 1cm at the nose longer that the selle italia and +- 2 cm longer at the back - looking at pictures comparing other selle italias with the Arione. So my conclusion - if its 1 cm longer on the nose of the saddle then my setback should be 5 cm (behind BB) Anyone have experience with Fizik Arione setup ? Obviously I will adjust according to feel later on if everything does not feel well. See this site for more info : http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/arione.shtml thanx ASTANA2010-03-08 07:35:26
