  1. shot guys, will come back if there is any more questions
  2. With the road bike - crank arms are 172.5 on MTB its 175 - so should I lower the seat post with 2.5mm just to be on par with my Road bike ?
  3. mmmm.. but then it screws with the rest of the setup again - reach etc ? Or is this what you do if you lower the saddle you have to move it back a bit as well ? Does not make sense to me. The angle of the seatpost one would think if going lower - move saddle forward a bit to stay over the crank... ? If you move it back your more behind the crank and then more pressure on quads .... ? or am I just not leka today ?
  4. Hey everyone One technical Q here. I had big problems with my left knee. Sorted that out with dr. Swart and finally back on the bike. My ideal saddle height is 71.3 cm on my Road bike (ok ok I'm not that tall - 1.75m) During my recovery and startoff I had to lower my saddle quite a lot to keep the knee from overextending and doing to much too soon. It was lowered to about 68 odd cm. Obviously with this adjustment it puts way more work on the quads. I started to move my saddle back up. Currently its back to 70cm ,and I still get some stiffness on the left knee - but only minor - so I need to lower just a tad more to be 100%. My question - at what point are you actually optimal - so you dont work quads too much etc , meaning - how much can you lower saddle from optimum (71.3cm in this case) but still don't have too much quad work. I mean I can play around with it. It can be a matter of 2mm's that make the difference. Just give me some idea what yo guys to - move it in 2mm increments ... or what ? thanx
  5. That bike is so hot - he needs to keep it in the freezer
  6. Radars Same, Radars. Also have Rudi's - use more on road. Sportsmask - made famous by the one and only Crab man Juan Mauricio Soler Hern?ndez) no problem - sweat like a fountain
  7. Pornstar - where in Somerset west can I buy these ? Cycle shop dischem ? Or Stellenbosch ? Thanx
  8. Change the toppic to "Simonsvlei disaster or aftermath " I would have been very pissed and hand out a few klappe if I knew who caused the crash! Freeken rookie f'ker! They must box the short route riders in or have another finish area for them or something.
  9. Nice to see WorcesterWheelers back in action after a bad 09 crash. Great stuff Bly jys weer in fighting form
  10. Jaja jou klein ***. Mens noem dit eintlik DOWNHILL dan, met full face, shin/knee guards and chest en elbow guards. MTBing is enige iets met `n dikwiel af van die teerpad
  11. Don't they open and repack the stuff to see if the markings on the top is what is actually inside ? If not - why would one not "cheat" the system. I think its crazy in anycase that we have to pay so much for imported stuff. Its not like the government is doing anything to make stuff cheaper in SA, or even make SA produced items much cheaper. Look at the food prices!
  12. hhmmmm ... I'd have to disagree slightly here. While the pedaling motion is the same. ie. round and round, there are some marked differences. Firstly the angle at which you sit and pedal is completely different. With the Uni you sit directly over the wheel in a more upright position and forces are directed more downwards, whereas on a bicycle you're sitting more hunched with forces directed slightly forward, ie. centre of the cranks are offset forwards from the saddle. Secondly, because it's a fixie all your control is in the pedals therefore more control of quad and hamstring muscles required at the same time in order to maintain balance. Which then leads to the third thing, balance. The constant corrections to balance will strengthen core muscles which in turn will strengthen lower back muscles. Riding a Uni is a different workout. For me riding a bicycle feels so foreign, and almost wrong mostly due to the pedaling angle and can feel a difference in how muscles are used. agree to disagree then. Its circular movements with your legs. Working 90% the same muscles either way. So the idea of cross is to change the muscle groups and movement a bit to train the other muscles and also strengthen your bone with more impact movements etc. so either way - it depends on what your idea of cross training is. Is it to improve your current main sport - lets say MTBing OR is it to improve muscle movement / flexibility and / or strength to prevent injury from overused muscle groups and repetitive movements ?? That my friend is the question
  13. nice. Only wish I were fitter. Injury been keeping me off the bike for a long time. Anyhow - enjoy. How many laps will you be doing to add up to 6h riding up there ?
  14. Its human nature to drive people into the ground then they are cuaght and it goes public. Look at the nazi's , Apartheid , Tiger woods - never mind low long ago it is and how people are punished some people just cant get enough. I don't see how nolan can go riding again in Paarl / Franchhoek - his locals will either stone him to death or they will think its been a setup and shift the blame to another party
  15. I'm sure drugs are also easily available in southern and south america, asia and the rest of africa. The main reason that atheletes train here are: Southern hemisphere summer, temperate climate, first world facilities, english speaking, same time zone as europe, etc etc.. NO!!!!!!!!!!!! your kidding right
  16. Hmmm..... interesting view??? you don't think it could also have something to do with weather at this time of year in the cape (as opposed to northern hemisphere)? Exchange rate = cheap destination compared with dry regions of the Med?? good training routes?? Obviously. Should I first have stated all the obvious reasons so you didin't have to go through the trouble of stating LOGIC. Were talking drugs etc. Just giving my 2c and a bit of background and inside info on this issue. But thanx bud
  17. Kindness is weakness - well in the case of working with a nation that don't give a damm. If you don't put these guys under pressure they will just take over Don't confuse kindness with weakness. If you suffer with this confusion, think about it. Astana, I see where you coming from. It is dangerous out there in the big, big world. I keep it simple. I cannot control when and how World War III will happen. I cannot control the crime rate either. I definitely cannot control whether I will be bike-jacked around the corner from my home in Durbanville. What I can control is how I treat my neighbour, how I greet the man that fills up my car at the garage, how I connect with those I come into contact every day. It starts with me, man. Maybe you have a different way around life. Not saying be a racist or stuck up guy walking around moaning about everything. BE kind to the good/innocent people out there - but crime will not stop from being a nice guy. I hear you. There is nothing we can do. But that doesn't mean that we don't have to agree with violence and order needs to be enforced from time to time to keep things in the right direction. like they say. "Nice guys finish last"

  19. Its fun to run past the old ballies in Stellenbosch with their new Dogma's on the climbs - and its a gradual climb - small bump in the road
  20. Naa, its just that mtbing is way easier than running 90km - so its a mental thing.
