  1. I need to ask the same question... I have been searching like crazy but can't find any. If someone can point me towards a shop where I can get some I would immensely appreciate it.
  2. My heart goes out to the family of this fellow biker and it truly is very tragic. I have to agree with most of the sentiments on this thread and it's not only because I'm a member of the club, but because I have ridden a lot of trails in Gauteng and Eastern Cape as well and the fact is that ANY obstacle is dangerous. If you make a mistake, you can come off very hard and if you are fatigued the risk amplifies exponentially. Accidents happen unfortunately and some of us are lucky enough to walk away swearing and others are not. Some routes are dangerous and requires more skill than others, but to blame a trail for an accident is very harsh. I really hope that this doesn't have a negative impact on the trails around our area that 100's of bikers love to ride. Ride within your limits
  3. Sounds like an idea! Now to find a cammo kit....
  4. I'd rather be out of fashion than putting the old noggin in harms way when taking a tumble.... and oh do I love to fall... It is heavier, but rather be safer than sorry. Personal opinion.
  5. Hi there, I have the multisport and have been working for it for some time now and I'm EXTREMELY happy. The dashboard usually downloads as soon as you plug it into the laptop or you can download the software directly from the site. Once the dashboard is installed the watch will automatically export the workouts into the dashboard and into the other file formats that you can use for Strava, Endomondo or whatever you are using.
  6. Thanks for the information. Really looking forward to it. Seems like a nice ride and a good outing.
  7. Not sure if this is under the right topic, but has anybody out there done the Houw Hoek tour? Doing it for the first time this year and it doesn't seem too intense... Any views, advice or opinions?
  8. This was my first race since relocating from Pretoria and I have to to say I found it extremely challenging. Bunch of riders went down hard on the steep declines and the climbing had me hitting the wall 10km from the finish.
  9. In my experience it depends on the brand. I'm 1.86, rode a larger 26er Scott, currently ride an XL Giant 29er. I would say fit it and then decide. Personal suggestion, have a look at an XL frame.
  10. Scott Large 26" to Giant XL 29". The Giant's Large was just a tad smaller than what I was used to on the Scott..... thusfar happy with the choice
  11. I'm having a similar problem on my front wheel. tested it dunked it under water many times... no visible leakages but as soon as I leave the bike for a bit it deflates. Don't know what is causing it... got used to pumping the wheel every time before I go out on a ride and sometimes during a long ride.
  12. I would also suggest to try a couple before deciding as frame sizes does vary between brands. Had a large frame on my 26er (Scott) and I'm currently riding an XL on my Giant XTC 29er. Only changes to the standard setup, I have put on a shorter stem and a straight seat post. I'm 1.86.
  13. Jeepers, glad the rider is ok. I wonder where it is going to end?
  14. Have done it twice now and is planning to do it again this year, actually flying up to do it. One of my favourite races, although I have to add probably one of the toughest non stage/ single day events I have done up to date. There is a bunch of places near Rustenburg as well where you can practice the climbing. My advice... climb and climb some more and you will have a ball. Didn't prepare as well for last year's as I would have liked and believe me I knew it almost 3rd's through. If you are used to climbing on rocky terrain you should be fine. This is usually where most people unfortunately get off and start pushing which might result in some irritation but other than that... probably the best race close to Gauteng that I have ever done.
  15. Have to agree with this. Relocated from Pretoria where I used to ride most of the Marathons with a relevant degree of ease. Used to drill down 70km practice sessions quite easily. The trails around Durbanville in my opinion is completely different than what I'm used to. It's way tougher in general. Did Hoogekraal last week with a bunch of mates and they made me look like a rookie. 11km and felt like a good 40km session with the boys up in Gauteng. Entered the 35km but I'm by no means under the impression that it's going to be just another scenic race.
  16. Amen brother!
  17. Oh the fond memories of stopping dead and either forgetting to unclip or unclipping the wrong foot .*sigh* Very good advice this. Once you get used to it you'll be wondering how long you have gotten along without it.
  18. I moved from a 26er to a 29er and struggled for a while to get used to the bigger wheels in tight corners and switchbacks. I'm 1.86 and a friend of mine is 1.85, I ride a 29er he rides a 27.5. It all depends on your preference and riding style. A 27.5 might have suited my aggressive style a bit better, but the 29er rolls like a mutha and on a flat it runs like a cheetah on tik. My advise/ 2 cents worth- test both if you can and select the one that fits you best. There is a lot of opinions and technical stuff doing the rounds and I was so caught up in it I couldn't make up my mind. Bring it back to basics, get on it and ride it... if you like it buy it, if you don't... don't buy it
  19. His dad behind the camera is probably like.." Now remember, when we get home and mommy asks, we went to the zoo."
  20. Have relocated from Gauteng to here and often ride Majik and Meerendal and have to say that the trails are in exceptional condition in my opinion. Will just have to pay Hoogekraal a visit soon.
  21. I'm also keen to join when I can depending on my work load. Usually hit Majik or Meerendal after work for a quick ride, but would be fun if I had some spectators when the enthusiasm overshadows the technique. Please inbox me your details.

    Stage Racing

The Lord of the Chain Rings in Hogsback was my first stage race. Awesome race, awesome surroundings, awesome people.
  23. Awesome review en 'n awesome bike ou maat! Jy sal maak dat ek plan maak om my silver assasin se lemiet te gaan verhoog!!
  24. Out of the 3 you suggested I would choose the Aspect... plainly cause I'm very bias to the bike as it was my first one and I absolutely loved it.... until it got donated from the back of my car. The GT is a very nice option.... MPO
  25. As dit nie vir die werk was nie, was ek nou daar met klokkies aan.
