There's a distinct difference between free rider and free balling rider BB. You kinda want your goods in a nice tranquil environment as they quickly approach you saddle when your tires regain contact with the ground...

Spose a good relationship with your LBS could come in handy... The problem is buying a second hand bike often goes against building a good relationship. Tough one. Some shops selling "boutique" frames have used ones where a customer has upgraded etc and they will honour the warranty. At the end of the day, if you're a good customer, your LBS will still profit from you servicing your bike and buying all your accessories n supplements from him, so helping you out is in his best interests too. I know my LBS won't hesitate to help me out, even if i don't have the invoice...
