  1. Just spoke to the guy who does this. Before I could ask him the question a cop pulled him over!!!. So I still don't know how much it weighs. It will probably double the weight of some of the carbon bikes. But it comes in kit form, you can do it yourself, and it costs R250. I'm sending him the hub link so he can sell himself to us.
  2. I found an annoying piece of paper on my windscreen at the 94.7, but for a change this one got my interest. Has anyone polyurethaned their bikes to protect the paintwork? Do you recommend it? Can it be applied to any frame material?
  3. At the 94.7 Cycle Boys displayed some carbon frames, both road (about R12750) and MTB (R7500). I'm inclined to think that there is no such thing as a bad frame nowadays, but does anyone have any experience of the road bike frames, which looked awesome. The groupset "Arsis", aside from the unfortunate name, was a bit suspect. Review and comparisons with other frames would be appreciated. Yang2008-11-19 02:46:17
  4. I don't think that Lance knows any other way but to go all out for it. In Bicycling he's described by Chris Carmichael as the "alpha predator- pure and simple... he's been a housecat for a while, now he's returning to his natural habitat, healthy and hungry." He says that he hasn't seen the "razor-sharp focus and unyielding drive" since 1999 and 2000. Is that just marketing talk- I don't think so. Ego is a zero factor, because its always been there- its not as if he suddenly became egotistical. Its just the way he is. And I reckon the reuslt will be a few races in 2009 that will be as thrilling as the best we've seen, and watched by millions who don't know the front of a bike from the back end. For him all that matters is to win. The cancer awareness and publicity will come naturally as a result.
  5. Yoh!!!! Lance's legs look fit to kick serious $rse. Mean and lean cycling machine!! Latest Bicycling says he's focussed on strength training which will continue until December, when he will transition out of the gym to spend time cycling at altitude. They have a full programme of rides lined up for him, including the cyclocross stuff which is intense riding.
  6. Good link Edman- the description is exactly how I have done it on my 2 MTB's without cable ties. But the difference is that I don't slit the tube in half all the way around to have one sheet of rubber. I use the tube as is, so that it goes around the chain stay as a "double wrap".
  7. Best of luck Nic.
  8. Whew- been trying to download from that site since your post- no luck. If anyone else battles as well, just PM me for the one I have.
  9. All the Epic entrants should withdraw in protest.
  10. I'll try to copy some pics from the doc. Pics too big. Just PM me. Trust me- this thing is not boring. Its an awesome document for tecnophobes, with weights, dimensions, and comparisons with Shimano and SRAM.
  11. *Bump*. Don't all rush at once, keep the noise down to a dull roar, please. The document happens to be very good value for money, seeing as how its for free. So, come on, altogether, one at a time.
  12. I have a 67 page, 2.55meg pdf presentation of the entire Campag range for 2009. Essential ogling for all you bike pervs. PM me if you want a copy.
  13. OI! KEEP ONE FOR ME! Will call you when i finish.
  14. Someone is bound to start a ride- gotta look at the Hauwteng road map to see how far 4ways is from Edenvale, or else there is a ride from Edenvale. So aren't you doing the 94.7?
  15. Absolutely, DR. Staying in Edenvale with a mate. Am looking for a Saturday morning ride, & thought of joining up Cycle Lab. Any ideas?
  16. For your middle of the bush, out of Africa Hub cuzz, expo's are like a toy shop to a kid for me. I buy, I ask, I touch, I ogle, I check out, I try out, and I ogle some more. Then I go back to where I'm staying, then do the race, then return to the middle of the bush. Expo's, 94.7 and Argus, here we come.
  17. my polar leaked. Spoke to Harald Zumpt. Arranged replacement. I upgraded and just paid in the difference.
  18. the way FiT is formulated is that the carbo supreme is optimised with the use of the supa goo so neither one will replace the other they are supposed to be used in conjunction with each other to optimise performance and prevent unwanted "bonking" or dehydrating and that same thing goes for any use of gels and liquid drink one can not replace the other you do need both This answer FITs (heeheehee- geddit!) my situation- thanks- will try this.
  19. Good one Afronaught.
  20. I'm gonna ask someone at the 94.7 Expo for a bomb demo. Or else- I'm taking my bike in for a service to Cyclelab on Friday (booked in) and ask them for the demo. The last time I used the pump was at the top of Fox Hill Shova- fun and games- the valve snapped on the spare tube. Lucky I was carrying a second spare- the first time I have done so in a race. Also Hatton's- I haven't forgotten I owe you for the tube you gave me.
  21. Just seen a guy using a bomb on the Brait Grace to Grace MTB race on TV. What does one bomb take your road tyre pressure to?
  22. Thanks Nellie. GU espresso love- noted. Now- talking about bombs. That's something else I've never tried.
  23. A rider from Bornholm Cycling Club in Denmark was riding his MTB down a hill one day when he looked down at his front hub and thought "hmmm- I wonder if I tightened my QR". He decided to test it the hard way- by pulling up his handlebar, and found out, the hard way, that he should not have done that. This Viking wasn't that tough- he wasn't able to get onto his bike for months afterwards. OK, this is a hearsay story but from a reliable source- a guy called Yannik who was riding with this individual at the time and witnessed it. Its entirely possible that this is what happened in this case. Or not?
  24. Yoh! LOL. Didn't see that one coming. Have you ever used gel for the helmet hair look on days you haven't ridden? Ultrahold works well.
  25. They always say that you should never try new stuff for the first time in a race. But if I'm used to FIT energy drinks will it make a difference if I use a FIT gel instead?
