  1. In 8 years of riding (and years of other sports), I have NEVER used gels. I have been following Pornstar's thread on Whasp, now I wonder if I should . I have been sceptical that they offer any benefit beyond what one gets from using a good energy drink. I use FIT Carbo Supreme which works for me. So- are they better that a good energy drink? Is it just an issue of convenience? What's your experience? Yang2008-11-01 10:57:10

It's ...... dooby dooby do, do dooby ... dooby dooby do--- and it's by Frank Sinatra.
  3. What about Belfast Child? The most hauntingly beautiful song I have heard- maybe sentimental, but truly goose flesh stuff.
  4. November Rain G&R. Some of you okes have a great taste in music- very impressed. Deep Purple- Child in Time Sex Pistols- God Save the Queen (she's no human being--hahaha) But have seen nothing for Led Zeppelin (London Olympics theme- Whole lotta Love with Jimmy Page), Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, very little on U2 and Simple Minds.
  5. Aerosmith- one of the best. I can name dozens of my best Aerosmith songs, from Toys in the Attic to Voodoo Doll, Living on the Edge, Dude Looks Like a Lady, Back in the Saddle, Love in the Elevator...............
  6. [ Damn...there's always someone marking my every word on this darn forum. I'm gonna go annonymous. Won't work. We'd recognise the style and know it was you. It would be like Bart changing his name to Homer- you'd still recognise the accent.
  7. WW, whatever you do, just don't change the avatar.
  8. Wasn't Me by Shaggy. Saw the video last night, enjoyed it all over again.
  9. [ OK back to the topic - this morning When love and hate collides from Def Leppard stuck! Awesome band and awesome song. I can't think of any Def Leppard song I don't like, and now I have Rocket on my mind. Their Hysteria album is great.
  10. Thanks to you Andrew, for organising the ride. It was fun to meet the guys and the women.
  11. Hey Jennymay, great to hear from you. I'm told that hitting the wall is what runners do. Cyclists bonk. But after bonking, at Botha's Hill, you still managed 4:01- that's impressive. And I must say that I think you're amazing. Hey Guys, we have a Super Cyclist here, who keeps a low low profile- 15 posts since 2005. She's too busy cycling- cycled the whole of Mozambique with a group this year. And did I mention, she has the NEW 2009 RECORD CAMPAG on her bike! Yoh!!
  12. I'll be doing squats after the 94.7 for about 6 weeks to increase power, with spinning on the bike in between to keep the legs nimble and fast (well, as fast as I can mane them go). Good luck PF.
  13. Hey Piernas Flacas, maybe you would like to explain the connection between your rope skipping and your fascinating avatar name.
  14. Good one. Listened to CD's on my way back to Moz yesterday: Kashmir- Led Zeppelin. Also done by Puff Daddy as Come With Me for Godzilla. War, and Welcome to the Pleasure Dome - Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Into the Sun - Grand Funk Railroad, Live. But Kashmir is on my mind.
  15. Look forward to it, and seeing you guys again. Haven't heard from WW have you? And was it Jennie May or Ellie May, the other cute one with the awesome new 2009 Campag Record on her Giant? Glad to see you guys did good rides. Musta been the brekkie at the Mugg on Saturday.
  16. Had a really disappointing ride, like a comedy of errors. I was all set up for a PB after my Hub amble on Saturday morning with Andrew Bell, Keith, Veloce, Wonder Woman and a few others. After a 6:59 start, aiming for sub 3:30, I punctured at the top of Fox Hill. Take off tyre and fit tube. Valve of the replacement tube snaps off. Shxt. Back off with the tyre, and one of the tyre levers goes flying off across to the other side of the road. Run across road, dodging traffic, in my SPD shoes. Get the 2nd tube in. Fit tyre back, start pumping. Hattons arrives to floor pump up to 7 bar. Set off 15 minutes later. Had hung in with the C bunch nicely, now have to overtake hundreds, working on my own, most of the way. At one stage couldn't see anybody through the mist, what if I'd missed a turn- hahahaha! Picked up a good spell with the two Dig It boys and a Burry look alike- thanks guys. Spent 3:35 riding, so missed my 3:30. Bummer. Next time.
  17. 2001- 3:47 2002- 3:46 R start 2003- 3:11 P 2004- 3:05 K. At this rate of improvement, will win 94.7 in about 9 years time at age 59. 2005- Gave everybody else a chance 2006- Gave everybody else a chance 2007- Gave everybody else a chance 2008- I'm back. Start at 7:09 in L. Watch out Turtlek and Zaskar!
  18. Windguru indicates a slight cross wind and more tailwind than headwind. Please tell me I'm right?
  19. So is your avatar dude!! Stop picking on CarbonBoy. Do you want him to go back to his old one???? CB- peace, Boet. Who remembers Anriette Schoeman's poster in Ride Mag a few years ago, wearing a strapless ballgown. Wow! She can work in my office anytime. As far as Rasmussen goes- AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH- STAY AWAYYYYYYY.
  20. What is it about former Porra colonies- where I live its as flat as a snooker table, and normally howling from the SW, which means on my outbound ride I fly, and on the way back I have to push into a headwind. I can generate good, consistent power into the headwind, and have held up very well against a couple of very fast riders who weigh less than I do. They would leave me standing on the hills, but cannot pull away from me against the headwind. What does this mean? I think it means that the power to weight ratio advantage of a lighter rider is neutralised by literally being blown away- being kept back by the headwind. A heavier rider will do better against the wind than a lighter rider. So while headwind riding on flats will increase your power and stamina and you will be able to ride strongly, if you have to carry extra weight uphill you will tend to be put away in comparison to the lighter guys with better power to weight ratios. Whew.
  21. See y'all there.
  22. JB, someone else said it- "I believe, therefore I am". If I believe that my wheels make me faster, then the the self-fulfilling prophecy component of my physical performance kicks in. Give me cheaper, heavier tyres, and my mind will control my output to a slower time, to prove my belief that these tyres slow me up. This is the non-technical, part of the argument. So the perception becomes the truth in the heads of those who believe. I personally believe that at my level wheels don't make a difference beyond fractions to my seeding of 20. To a pro the seconds over a 120 to 230 k race will make a difference. Now- how's this- I have non-poofter wheels on my training bike, and non-poofter wheels on my racing bike. I pull out my racing bike 3 weeks for training before the race, and train in between on my training bike. My racing bike has Record, and my training bike has 105. Does this make sense? I believe it makes cents. PS- truly hilarious story about the flies. The one that got away probably made you his Lord. Yang2008-10-16 14:51:51
  23. Sorry to be the one to break the news to you DR but you're been conned- badly. Your wheels are obviously fake, not even parallel. Look carefully- your serial number doesn't even have numbers- its all LETTERS!!! Caveat Emptor.
  24. I'm in, I'm in. There will be 100's of ppl there- ECPP, Sharks, CYcleLab, Mr Price and assorted individuals and clubs. Seeing as how I don't know any of the Hubbers, how will we know each other. Will there be like a Hubbers flag standing tall and proud, or wot???
