    ATTITUDES!

Somewhere in all that legislation I'm sure a saw a law stating that you may not pass a pedal cycle at a distance of less than 1.5m. I wonder how many motorists know they are breaking the law every time that do that? I wonder how many motorists even care?

    ATTITUDES!

I think I am one such "t**ser" (could not resist' date=' I am now sowing the seed to my own downfall) Here is the complete regulation: (http://www.transport.gov.za/library/regulations/1999/roadregs10.html) Prohibition on driving on shoulder of public road, except in certain circumstances 298A. (1) Subject to subregulation (2) and regulation 298(1)(e), no person shall drive a motor vehicle on the shoulder of a public road. (2) Notwithstanding subregulation (1), the driver of a motor vehicle may, during the period between sunrise and sunset, drive such motor vehicle on the shoulder of a public road which is designated for one lane of traffic in each direction-- while such motor vehicle is being overtaken by another vehicle; and if he or she can do so without endangering himself or herself, other traffic, pedestrians or property on such public road; and if persons and vehicles upon a public road are clearly discernible at a distance of at least 150 metres. [/quote'] This is applicable to motor vehicles.
  3. Hellooo' date=' Bruce, BikeMax ... Anybody Home!![/quote'] Do I really need to answer this, again? The search function is your friend!
  4. eish! You got big balls, gotta give you that!
  5. http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/decoupling.asp This is a metric the Joe Friel has introduced. I have tried to understand it, but my numbers seem to be all over the place. The theory behind it is about assessing when you have completed your base phase and are no longer getting benefits and need to move to build. Joe puts forward a theory that when your HR drift is lower than a certain percentage (5%) you have reached your peak aerobic fitness and need to move on to anaerobic/VO2Max type training. Basically the way he works out what the drift is, is by splitting the ride file in half, then comparing the power output/HR for the two halves. If HR is substantially higher per unit of power in the second half of the ride, you still need to work on your aerobic fitness - i.e. your HR is increasing for the same wattage. I did a comparison of all my rides and I can't see a proper pattern. I sent the data to Joe Friel and his response was that this metric is really only valid for low intensity LSD type rides - which I never really do. But then this morning I did L5 intervals and ended up with a value of 2.86% for the ride - so go figure!! There is currently no scientific evidence to support this theory, it is more anecdotal.
  6. Okay, this is multi-sport kind of training, although only 1h45 running in the week so I'm not sure how much added fatigue that gives. Looking at Friel's tables ( he is a big advocate of 3 weeks on, 1 week recovery), looks to me like the recovery week is about 60% volume of the first week of the 3 week training block. So, assuming round about 16 hours in your first week, Friel would advocate a 10 hour week.
  7. [quote=JasonIt's not going to change. I did not ride on the highway... Had the bike on the rack and got home to watch the first ball of the ODI between SA and West Indies... I understand your point and frustrations... Now understand me and don't frustrate me Ja, and tried to take out the entire MTN, Konica Minolta, and Absolute Systems/Bulk Pack Meat teams in the process - sneaky move that, TCS would have been proud of you
  8. buff: sorry, I didn't see this thread. I generally don't do rest weeks anymore. I tend to feel worse after taking a whole week off than I did before the rest week. I also generally don't do 20 hour training weeks either, which is probably why I don't need rest weeks. As the good doctor says "It depends". Post what your last 3 weeks training was, then maybe I can give a better answer than "It depends"
  9. First 30min of the race I tried to get involved a bit at the sharp end of the race. Just found myself sliding back in the bunch too much, so after working my way back to the front like a yo-yo one time too many I decided to stay in the bunch a bit more. Geez, what have you been feeding Michelle?? She's a bit woes hey?
  10. No, my leg's can't spin that fast! I couldn't use my 11 sprocket (chain was jumping) but I can't get to 188rpm, that's for sure! Must be a spike in the data.
  11. Okay, here are my summary stats for The Fast One: Race:Duration: 02:07:37Work: 1783 kJTSS: 149.9 (intensity factor 0.839)Norm Power:290VI: 1.24Pw:HR: 2.60%Pa:HR: -4.52%Distance: 103.478 kmMinMaxAvgPower: 0948233wattsHeart Rate: 80169141bpmCadence: 3118883rpmSpeed: 079.248.7kphPace 00:4500:0001:14min/kmHub Torque: 040.86.1N-mCrank Torque:0115.627.2N-m So, power wise it was a pretty easy race for me. First race in Elites so my goal was to sit in the bunch and stay out of trouble. To put it into perspective, my 94.7 had a normalised power of 335watts, as opposed to 290watts in this race. I see WinningTime timewarped myself and Craig backwards by about a minute! Which is annoying because now all the Vet's are going to be laughing at us saying we got dropped Racing in the Elites though is defiitely a step up. My bunch riding skills are going to have to improve! Even though the overall power numbers were lower, I found the race to be hard because of the level of concentration required. Things just seem to happen that much quicker.
  12. This should answer your question far better than I can: http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/profile.asp
  13. Thanks bruce. SRM should be here in a week and then the truth will be told... maybe against fox hill? Let's see, Mclean, Beneke x 2, van Biljoen, Harvey, Green, Ryder, Moolman, van Eeden, Labuschagne x 2, etc etc etc We are going to have to hit new bests on our Maximum Power Curve just to hang in there! Can't wait!
  14. You remind me of a certain geek that used to work for me. Once he asked me my advice as to what to buy his girlfriend for her birthday. I gave him the name of a new perfume that had just been released - he looked at me as if I was mad and said he was think more along the lines of a new PDA or something. Michelle must be a special lady to put up with your k@k - I suggest you treat her really well, could be a long wait before you find another like herbruce2008-01-24 10:57:54
  15. (at least for me anyway!) Again, the more you ride the idt, the closer the power output will be to the road. Now, Jason, say sorry (with flowers or diamonds!)
