  1. Easy Pops - it's not about sales talk but about knowing the limitations about what you buy.
  2. adrian@bicyclepower.co.za
  3. I have a new 2 part article on nutrition for ultra endurance events (over 4 hours) If any of you would like a copy then please mail me and I will return the mail with the articles attached. peteratbikemaxpower.com Peter BikeMax2008-03-13 05:08:45
  4. Bruce has covered the basics - nothing much to add there. We are working with several Epic guys at present and would be happy to design a programme for you if you are interested. PM me if you would like further info. Peter
  5. Vermarc - fantastic kit and service. Sorry to say it but the local stuff we have used is very very poor in comparison and comes in the wrong sizes, late etc etc. Contact Jon on 076 850 4716
  6. Darren also came straight from the USA and the Tour of Missouri (where he took 18 secs out of Contador in the TT) The training stress and time zone adjustment takes a big toll.
  7. As far as I can remember the AM Classic carbons use the Zipp rims - just rebadged and with different hubs (hence the 38 & 58mm depths)
  8. R - the rider dropped may have chosen to pace himself better (differently) and simply held a steadier pace, or he may have been unable to respond to the short hard changes of pace yet be aerobically able to claw back (think Ullrich & Armstrong)
  9. The difference in the location of the strain guages in an SRM Vs a PT should result in a difference of around 2% - the SRM being the higher of the 2. In real terms the difference is insignificant and within or around the accuracy parameters of both devices. BB - you are correct in one sense but I can tell you that the comparison of rider data is a very valuable analysis tool in giving a rider goals and also measuring economy in a race situation, and from this perspective it is important to have an accurate device. 10. Which is precisely what reputable power meters do! If I take a thermometer and measure the temperature at the top of a fridge and the bottom of the fridge and I find that the bottom is 1 degree colder than the top (which makes perfectly good sense). Is the thermometer faulty? Is the fridge a cr@p fridge? NO - it's just that cold air sinks so the bottom of the fridge will be colder than the top. Guys, these are simple concepts that are being ignored for the simple purpose of stirring ****. Big H - if you want an open discussion then write in English (but obviously if you want to limit the opposition then write in Afrikaans )
  11. Steady now big man - before you go throwing your usual wild assumptions around' date=' just consider that a Power Tap measures at the hub whereas an SRM measures at the crank - there will be a difference in reading due to drive train losses. This does not make either inaccurate - just reading from a different source [/quote'] Big H, why is it that when someone answers your question, you choose to ignore the answer completely? [NB. This is a rhetorical question, the answer is obvious to everyone] Sorry I could not get back..... we buried my Mother in Law today. Bruce the answer by Ursus Maximus is not an answer, it is a wild statement. It just confirms that this whole power training thing is a farce and something to keep the wundahboys apart from the normal cyclists. We live in an exact world. One kilometer is 1000m not 900m or 1100km it is defined by statute to be 1000m. Do you really want to try and convince me that powermeters is accurate. It seems to me to be beneficial to get the one that reads the highest so I can have more brag or wow!!!! appeal standing in the starting blocks of a race. No, if you get different reading from different manufacturers and empirical answers from other dink ekke hierrie hele ding is net 'n geldmaak foefie. Maybe I am a sceptic but please do not try to convince me 900m is equal to 1000m!!!!!!! Big H, read his answer again, then again, then again. Now, if you still don't understand what he is saying then let me explain. Power is lost due to friction in the chain - let's say 5 watts. Now, if I measure the power at the crank, like the SRM does, I will get a value, lets say 100watts. If I measure power at the hub (like the powertap does) at the same instant in time I will get 95watts. Why? Because 5 watts was consumed by friction, so 100 watts minus 5 watts equals 95 watts. There is nothing higgledy piggledy about this, it is just simple physics - something that I thought someone with your obvious intelligence could understand. "Obvious intelligence" - now that's a "wild statement" if I ever saw one

  13. A TT by nature is high intensity and so you will use all your stored glycogen relatively quickly - I would make sure you have a decent high carb breakfast and few hours beforehand, then start drinking a decent carb drink from 20 mins in and then every 20 mins thereafter. On top of that a few energy bars - maybe one at each 60 min point to top things up. maybe have some plain water available too to drink with the bars. Good luck and don't start too hard BikeMax2007-09-06 10:51:40
  14. Plyometric training can certainly help improve explosive power and the ability to contract your fast twitch muscle fibres quickly.
  15. Cyclists are only about 24% efficient so Kcals are about the same as KJ in this case.
  16. Sorry to hear that - but well done on a valiant and brave effort. Next time.
  17. You are correct - the power tap measures output so resistance is only relevant in that it will increase or decrease power generally (like climing a hill or riding into the wind) The only reason you would add resistance is to vary the cadence or to make it easier to generate the power you want to train at. Weight is also not a factor on the IDT. The only reason you may have been advised to vary the power values on an IDT is that many folks have a problem matching their outdoor power when on the IDT (There are a few theories about why that don't matter too much here) I would suggest that you test on the trainer and then compare to outdoor power - then you can adjust zones accordingly (if you need to) For what it's worth most people find the difference gets smaller the more they ride the trainer and adjust to it. 18. I have had a Litespeed Ghisallo and now ride a Stevens carbon - they are both great frames, but on balance I found the ghisallo to be a little too flexible (and I am only 70kg) when really pushed. The ride and stiffness of the carbon makes it a better race frame IMO.
  19. They do affect performance - and also reduce immune efficiency in my experience. Take it easy.
  20. Don't think there is any "anti" product lobby Ivan - just an "anti empty marketing hype for personal gain " lobby...
  21. Not sure Iven B has read this study... Not Yet' date=' it is quite lengthy. I amreading it. Who is the guy and are you believing 1 study, like you said what equipment and is it reliable blah blah blah.? LOL Yeah will read and comment and as I have always said everyone is entitled to their own opinions and research.[/quote'] Looks reasonably well thought through to me - I do not agree with his findings re oval rings as a whole, but what is clear is that, even if you do buy the whole "extra power" from oval rings, then Q rings are still a poor design. If you don't like the validity of the study then it is up to you to demonstrate why not.
