  1. In that case, it's one of the better options available. Great place for kiddies to roam about. Conters has a GREAT coffee shop, but isn't really the place for kids that age to run about. Bloemendal also has a great restaurant / coffee shop, and, like Meerendal, suits little kiddies exploring. But yeah - good choice in that respect, and the views from the top at Meerendal are spectacular.
  2. You'll be better served by getting trusses. Cheap, plenty available and already treated. Plus, the prep work to get them to the right dimensions is FAR less.
  3. I HIGHLY recommend doing all the canaries. Top ones are rocky as feck, and make you work hard, but they're fun. If I was fitter it would have been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. But unfortunately I just couldn't get in the groove.
  4. Jonkers on Saturday was PRIME. Beautiful conditions. But then the muppet on the bike was sommer pap, so I was all over the place and didn't hit anything like I should... That new Flow Line that's there, and the newer canaries (level below the rock ride) is BEAUTIFUL. And the upper canaries are just getting more and more gnarly. LOVE it. Also - can't wait for Trail Z to open this weekend... Patrick apparently has shedloads of work to do still - there's no way to get the bakkie there and they need to build some stiles.
  5. FWIW LTG, we refer to meerendal as Meh-rendal. Try the other trails in the system, and if you're still here next weekend, Trail Z at hoogekraal should be open. Apparently it's a belter, and it'll increase the total loop at Hoogies to around 20k or so
  6. I know... They're SUPER fun to ride. Just a pity I felt like a forgotten snoek today. Pap as anything. Just hitting everything wrong. No flow (not that I normally have any, but yeah) and just... bleh. Was an absolutely fantastic day for it though.
  7. :/ Sorry Rameez. Next time for sure. Did the canaries and the new flow trail. I was SUPER pap man. Felt like a 3 day old snoek
  8. don't get me started... CoCT is trying to wrest control of the rail system from Transnet for this very reason.
  9. All correct, except for these 2. Number 1 is true for LIGHT equipment, like a laptop or medic's kit or paperwork. Nothing more... Number 2 is patently false until said lightie is around 8 or 9 years old. There's no way I'd let my lightie ride to school now, nor is there any way I'd be able to take him to and from school unless I used a bike seat (which I am prepared to do, if my wife approves) Though that would mean not riding the trails after work... I'd still need my car to visit clients, though. And get stuff from the hardware store as and when, but that would be every now and then and not a constant need.
  10. going on the naming conventions inside disco, it'll probably be something along the lines of shreyv@discovery.co.za
  11. You have to be ultra smooth in the rain. GP3 teaches you that, from what I understand. Anything other than smoothness and you don't hold as much corner speed. And that is a killer for acceleration out of the corners
  12. My 5-10's have stood up to the pins very well, but there was apparently a batch that had issues with longevity. Maybe your mate's was from that batch. Generally speaking, and despite the tackiness of the rubber, the 5-10's stand up very well. It's not unknown for a pair of shoes to last 3 to 4 years with loads of riding. As for pins - it depends. My saints are less grippy than my superstars were, but then they have chamfered bolts vs the constant size of the grubs in the superstars, so that may be why. But it is essentially like having a bit of float on the pedals vs being stuck in place and having to literally lift to reposition, which is what I had to do on the superstars.
  13. Assuming they could understand it... If they read the lyrics to Mutter without understanding the meaning behind them... LOL.
  14. I'm under no illusions as to the fact that I'd have been BROKEN after 3 or 4 stages. I've ridden there, I know the terrain and I've seen the hike-a-bike sections are (or where they could be) and they're brutal. I know I need to be a lot fitter than I am at the moment to even think about doing the Ezel. But it's a goal for next year for sure. Going back to Ezel in December. Love that place.
  15. wallowing in my own self pity and lack of fitness... Also known as going hiking with my lightie.
  16. SEASON 20!!! And there's SO MUCH GOOD STUFF to rip to shreds, now. OMG. I actually can't wait.
  17. And the big exciting changes coming next year... New bike? New sponsor? Testing started on Monday. Hmmmmmm
