  1. That lines uo with how I understand it. Max discount (cash back) is 1500 per quarter and 6000 per year.
  2. I can see why you did. Discovery have a history of wording it similar to that though, but normally : "max qualifying spend of xx xx per quarter" as in the case of healthy food
  3. You are wrong. Max spend that will qualify for a discount is R3000 per quarter. I'll confirm that in the morning though. I'll agree that the wording is vague, but that's the way it was explained at the launch and in suvsubsequent training sessions.
  4. Nope. Not from MSA. From Vitality themselves. Nothing to do with savings and /or med aid. Catch is that if you don't use it you don't get cash back. And yes. CSA license for (I'd imagine) a recreational license. And kit. Don't underestimate the amount Discovery will save as a result of reduced lapse rates thanks to this benefit. Even for a 1% reduction in lapse ratios, and a few 1,000 more vitality points. That small uptick in retention has a HUUUUGE effect on their bottom line
  5. Wrong. It's how the others have it. If you just ride one race, and you're enlisted for this benefit, you get 50% of it back subject to a max of R1,500 back per quarter.
  6. They're actually brilliant. Not at all as difficult to use as you'd imagine, and you don't activate them un-necessarily. They're direct, you can change all the way down in an instant, and they're far less cluttered. Only problem is that you don't get them in anything but X0 & XX.
  7. Yeah, but - related to that. Plus it's run by the Nigerian national oil company, and a subsidiary of Shell. There are things that you have to take with a pinch of salt, and dig deeper before accusing a company of masterminding or disregarding damage such as this. This damage is mostly from oil theft - of course it's going to be bad. from http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/aug/04/shell-nigeria-oil-pollution-clean-up-amnesty Shell, the largest oil company operating in Nigeria, is now facing a lawsuit in the United Kingdom where the law firm Leigh Day, representing fishermen in the Niger Delta, is arguing the company isn’t doing enough to maintain and protect its pipelines from being sabotaged by oil thieves.
  8. That's what the majority of activists just don't seem to get in this, and many other cases - we NEED sustainable, reliable power generation. The fracking will enable us to do that as well. I'd FAR rather have Shell do it than the Chinese or Russians. Shell are at least accountable, and dedicated to sustainable future practices.
  9. I remember it well from Science class in school. Well, it was a cricket ball, and some other stuff feathers, and a moer of a big glass canister that was attached to a moer of a big vacuum...
  10. Yeha, but I still wouldn't want to have my hands just 300mm apart, on dirt, going that fast with my chin that close to the stem...
  11. Who cares? It's a riding position, not a motor... Was probably the full on tuck that they banned anyway - pulling your arse down to rest on the top tube so that you're as low as possible. This is just getting very low and pulling your elbows in, whilst moving your hands inboard.
  12. Nope. They give it back to you. Nothing to do with the health side, except that you can only have vitality if you're on discovery life ir health.
  13. Yeah. Chances are that the majority of those who take it up will it utilise the benefit. You also have to consider that the contribution pays your CSA and running club fees for you as well, so the actual cost is more along the lines of 300 per year. When you factor in the cost of clothing etc, then it'd probably be a net zero or even a loss. It's essentially aimed at getting more people to compete or take part in these sorts of things. Actuarially speaking, the more active you are, the less of a health risk you are to them. There are outliers, of course, but by taking part you're essentially saving THEM money in the long run. Plus people feel as if they're getting a tangible benefit from Vitality, so they're less likely to lapse their policies which again saves them money (quite a bit of it in fact)
  14. LOL. Looks like he's pretty fit. Definitely has the skillset. But anyway - I'm very firm on the opinion that the starting ground for marathon / XC riders should be on the gravity / bmx side. Skills are FAR more important than fitness as a base from which to build.
