  3. I assume on your specialized you have a BB30 crank - then this is what you would want: http://www.absoluteblack.cc/sram-oval-bb30.html I am currently running this in a 32t. Previously on a 32t round chainring.
  4. I had an issue fitting a 104 ring on a spez/sram spider, it was slighty different. Double check it fits before you buy.
  5. Buy a direct mount - you wont look back
  6. More likely a shortage of stock. They are getting some in this month apparently. Must say I'm very happy with their service, the Evil Twin is an awesome machine
  7. I enjoyed parts of this race, the route was tough and rewarding. But it reminded me of the first trailseeker in Helderberg, where it all went wrong from an organisational point of view. This time around the Marathon guys got routed into the backend of the fun 10k riders and the 30k riders in Meerendal / Contermans. I witnessed Moms and children falling, being bashed and shouted at to move out of the way of faster riders, and to make matters more complicated this was all happening on the tight singletrack sections. Also saw a few 30k riders rolling down the side of the Contermans hills while struggling to uncleat and move out of the way. It goes without saying that keeping all the routes separate is very important. It is such a rookie mistake to make when hosting a race, and you would expect a lot more from the organisers. Hopefully they will take note and improve on next years event.
  8. 5:45 am start for an MTB event.. Should we bring lights
  9. A later start time would be very much appreciated Wessel
  10. Here is a better link - http://www.dirtopia.co.za/index.php/apple-blossom-mtb-ride
  11. Anyone hear of plans for a Southern Suburbs concept store ? Since bridge cycles are no longer "Special" anymore, where are the southeys with brain suspension supposed to go to get ripped off ?
  12. Been following this thread most of the morning... What bothered me was some guys saying that you will get a criminal record if you pay your admission of guilt fine. I struggled to believe how this could be true, so I tried to contact someone at SANParks to get some clarity on this. Eventually I got a call back from Hilton who manages the security for SANParks in this area - i.e. He is responsible for sending the rangers to patrol certain spots - he assured me that you will not receive a criminal record if you pay your fines before the court date, you may also go to court and contest it , or avoid doing anything if you like (and face the consequences what ever they might be). But the point is you WILL NOT get a criminal record for paying the admission of guilt fine. Although I don't agree at all with how heavy the fines are, or the way they are handled by SANParks. Hilton stressed the point to me a few times that SANParks aren't intentionally trying to push cyclists away, they are trying to accommodate and keep everyone happy, which is not an easy task. I can only hold thumbs they officially open Cecilia and the greenbelts for us to ride soon !
  13. This past weekend a few of the A-Z trails were closed due to felling of tree's affected by the fires earlier in the year. I doubt they will be cleared by the 13th ?
  14. For the price you cant go wrong
  15. Yes I personally know of someone being fined. It happens
  16. Yes they have, not sure if it was a festive season thing only or if they are going continue with it, but plenty of fines have been dished out. There has also been mention of someone having a court case in another thread but I don't know anything about that incident.
  17. I know of many people who decided to ride Tokai and upon arrival the ticket office has been closed , either early in the morning or late evening. Long story short, If you manage to get stopped by the rangers from Silvermine side (e.g at the silvermine gate). The rangers will give you a R500.00 fine for trespassing, and possibly try and arrest you if you give them a hard time, regardless of the circumstances (even if the friendly ranger at the Tokai gate let you through) - Something to keep in mind
  18. The Jonkershoek Cafe is its own worse enemy to begin with, poor quality food at tourist prices and marginal service at best.. On my last outing there 2 months ago I noticed they had a couple grey specialized epics on their racks, which I assume are also rental bikes - didn't notice any scotts - Makes you wonder.
  19. Hey Rolf I was the guy up there with you on the White Stumpjumper. I'm shocked to hear the extent of your dads injuries, and glad at the same time that it was not worse. He is definitely no ordinary 60 year old - even cracking one or two jokes while we were waiting for the ambulance. Credit to the fire and rescue crew who were first to arrive and attend to your dad, they did a great job stabilizing him. He fell in the middle of mamba on that rock drop section which has become quite dangerous and sandy of late, with new rocks becoming exposed under the sand. All the best to your dad and keep us updated on his recovery. -Marc
