  1. Three weeks to go....the course is out and the fires are burning.....Potentially A great event
  2. Gauteng Track Legends are serious about track racing. The numbers may not be huge but the quality makes up for the numbers. The League is there for ALL track riders over 50 years of age. We are also catering for ALL Veteran ladies. Why only 50 plus...well it is easy to manage and as it is not an "Official" league we are run by volunteers. The distances are common for ages from 50 to 70plus. The events are as follows; Sprint. 500 m Time Trial. 2000 m Pursuit. 15 km Points race. 5 km Scratch Race. Yesterday was the first of 12 Track Meetings ending in September just before we leave for the World Masters Track Champs in Manchester. Yesterday we held the sprint and 5 km Scratch race. The sprint was won by Grenville Scullard...second Tim Abbot..Third Gerrit Scheepers. Gerrit dipped under the current South African 200m record for the age cat. 55-59. The record IS 12,51 and Gerrit rode a 12,34. We look forward to an "Official" track meeting. Will he dip under 12???? wait and see. The 5 km scratch race was won by Bart Nel...followed in second place by Tim Abbot and in third place was Wendell Bole. The entire league is being run on an Omnium basis..... so EACH rider must ride EVERY event....Tim Abbot said he's looking forward to his first EVER pursuit...it's going to be a blast. The next Gauteng Legends Track League meeting will be held on the 9 th March at 13hoo. the two events will be the 500 meter Time Trial and the 15 km Points race....

  6. Sir, until a few days ago there was NO plans in place for ANY Provincial events as we had last year. Then Fritz Pienaar and I got together and organized the Burry Stander Memorial Provincial XCO Series. As I have "No position" with CGC it took some time to get it approved by CGC. The result was a huge delay in the event actually being authorized. The series will however be held the first event on Saturday 1 Feb at Thaba, #2 will be on 1st March at Monument PTA ( New Venue)#3 scheduled for THABA on 29th March and #4 back at Monument. The Provincial champs and SA Champs needs to be finalized asap but I am not in a position to give any venue details. The racing starts at 08h30 on Saturday and carries through to Juniors starting at about 12h30. There will be a"Style Competition" at the XCO venue for the DOWNHILL RIDERS....Practice for DH starts at 9am. This is NOT part of the BSS but a Demo event to showcase Downhill.
  7. I have been suffering from RLS since 1995...it nearly drove me crazy. I tried everything....my fatigue was so bad that a house rule was that if I was sleeping then leave me be..then a Dr Friend of mine prescribed PEXOLA....like an earlier post..THIS works for me. The side effects are all worth the relief.....drowsy soon after taking the tablet....cheapest hangover EVER....BUT this is worthwhile trying personally, I hope it works for you!!!! a prescription is required !!!!!
  8. I know now why I don't visit this site on a regular basis !!!! I want to know from you guys down in the CAPE..where there seems to be mountain bike trails that are out of this world. I can imagine that with the Trail building experience and talents of Mourant you have the best trails available !!! BUT how many of you have the choice of TWO trails within 4km of each other? The one is where we started with limited terrain but we managed...NOW... there is a second park where difficulty and skills walk hand in hand..strength and endurance with a huge amount of fitness a necessity. The new park is catering for the riders who don't want "dumbing down"....where there are challenges of every natures yet.....still a handful seem to go back to the simpler...family friendly trails....ride them regularly and keep on complaining about the trails. I recently heard a guy say... but YOU chose to ride there so why complain....you could have come here and be challenged way beyond your ability.....it just makes me think we should just let them grow closed as it will make my life easier.
  9. Well spotted....hahaha...when one is trying to type with ONE finger and even worse for me with my LEFT hand...I feel just that old......

  14. Am GREEN with envy...am also recovering from a broken shoulder..60-65 cat....and so we can dream....I think Linus van Onselen must stand an excellent chance in this cat....Barber also....Neal Fourie and my special friend Charles Stander...cat starts at 11,02. Racing right now MY pratyers and hope on Andrea von Holt as I write . She medalled in Brazil when we went there in 2010.

  16. If anyone could see how green I am with envy as I am unable to be there... I may be mistaken for an Avecado pear.....green and bald!!! I want to wish everyone down there the best of EVERYTHING. To the trail builders...you don't know how much I respect you for your HUGE effort. Nick, the way you so humbly soak up the criticism just amazes me..YOU are a true gentleman. Well done!!!! A bit of stick now....BUT to each and every GAUTENG rider....Keep the rubber side down and enjoy this FANTASTIC experience.... Not only you masters but the Juniors, Elite and others, I wish you well... and also the rest of you from outside GAUTENG...enjoy guys, I wish I was there !!!! and remember...."There is NOTHING too technical to walk..........." !!!!!! To The organizers..I bow down to you and "HATS OFF" to an event that stands back for nothing else in the rest of the world and I know you are being watched from Heaven and getting BURRY'S nod of approval....RIP Big Guy!

  21. The course will riden in reverse to the normal ride ie. CLOCKWISE. 7,5 km and a really nice loop. The traditional tour through the camp sites is again making for a lot of fun. When you have been close to a cancer sufferer and then think of the little children who must have such a sad view of their future, it breaks my heart and motivates me to help raise as much money for research and MEDICATION for these innocent little ones...come support a worthy cause..or just donate whatever you can afford www.GivenGain looking up my name as an activist where you can make a donation. Thank YOU!! CHOC our charity of choice.
  22. We have revisited the route and decided on an anti-clockwise ride. From the starting line on the Garmin it will be 7.5km...I'm just sorry to be on the side lines...but I will be there 'cos the cause is right...CHOC....all the profits will be to CHOC!!
  23. We will have HOT food available for the 24 hour. Delicious Mutton Stew, Spaghetti Bolognaise, Boerie rolls...... Illy Coffee ( Cuppachino @ R20 with R10 going to CHOC ), muffins, in the morning from 6;30am Bacon and Egg Rolls... FREE...FREE... all night coffee stand....Camp Sites ( first come first served )....Bike wash. Entries are open at www.bikeabout.co.za........ R250 per rider...NO GOODIE BAGS TO KEEP THE COSTS DOWN....MEDALS TO ALL FINISHERS.... ALL PROFITS TO CHOC.....ALL PROFITS TO CHOC...ALL PROFITS TO CHOC... NO RAIN HAS BEEN ORDERED......
  24. Breaking news.....I understand the current financial climate, so we have decided to drop the goody bags and streamline all costs to the bear minimum without dropping the standard of our event !!!!! Entries will now be R250 per rider and still whatever we make on the event will be going to CHOC. Enter on line at www.bikeabout.co.za It's still all about the children and that " cancer NEVER sleeps" see you there.
