  1. Wear both sets - extra padding!
  2. No! The racist lanes are for the whites. Tony and Bra Jules are men of the people and to be one with the people they must cycle in the taxi lane. On the N1 hopefully.
  3. Sram Red 1 click shifting is a 1000 times better than DA, the whole group, including the crank is much lighter and it's cheaper to boot. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Unless you want Di2. Personally I find the concept annoying - like a remedial group for people who can't set or change gears without mechanical assistance.
  4. I had DA 7900 and moved to Sram Red. I am not going back to Shitmano for love nor money.
  5. Oom is right, don't try anything different, don't eat too much, drink plenty of water from Thursday and make sure you get a good night's sleep on Friday night. Chances are you won't on Saturday night.
  6. heheh I did a 3.11 from S back in 2005 I think - even from S I was hoarse at the end of it. In 2010 I did a double Argus and started the 2nd lap with the very last group. The road looked exactly like the video above. Even in near-hurricane conditions, people seem to have no ability to co-operate and just weave all over the place.
  7. Future Life is a good base. Personally I can't eat too much of it otherwise it feels like I have concrete sloshing around in my guts. Usually I have a smallish bowl and drink a bottle of energy drink before the start. Just eat well for 2 - 3 days before you race. Don't overdo it though. There's no point stuffing yourself all week for a 3 or 4 hour effort on the bike.
  8. Keep your blood sugar balanced to avoid cravings. Calculate calories and make a note of what you eat. Figure out your daily limit and don't exceed it.
  9. Burn more calories than you eat. Weight loss is maths + piehole control. Easier if you eat lots of small meals, low GI, high fibre and raw veg. Train on an empty stomach early in the morning. At first it feels ***. Then after a week or two, you can manage it without feeling like a leper.
  10. Once you get to the double letter groups pacelines cease to exist and the bunch-riding is determined by a well-known scientific principle Your task will be to safely navigate through this at over 30km/h for 109km.
  11. You should forget about finding someone to help you - just shout loudly all the way. Not knowing the route is also not a concern - just keep your eyes peeled to see which way the other 40,000 people are going.
  12. Here is your ideal bike setup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2LaOrjiw7A
  13. Of course, but you may lose your voice asking people to move over. It is critical to warm up before you attempt this.
  14. no riding all week, 3x large calzone's on friday night, 80km tt saturday, get up at 3 on sunday and bust out a Jane Fonda session to loosen up for the big day ahead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu7c9H6ngLI
  15. I'm finding the clock motif is not prominent enough. Would it be possible to get a plastic clock accessory to wear around my neck ala Flava Flav? http://www.s9.com/images/portraits/9906_Flavor-Flav.jpg
  16. Somebody hit the crack pipe hard on this one. Even Andrew Wheeldon looks a bit sheepish in the ad. I hope he did well out of it.
  17. Why not have a hall of shame on the ppa site? At the moment the newsletter seems to be holding back a bit. How about mugshots with a nice icon next to the face to indicate the nature of the misdeed? One for the next PPA AGM maybe. http://memebee.com/vancouver/images/smilies/poo.gif Motion carried?
  18. There-in lies the challenge. The OP is complaining about the onset of boredom - solution : raise the stakes but keep the intensity at recovery level.
  19. Pop some melatonin before you ride. Hey presto, you are riding in L1 and must break a sweat just to stay awake.
  20. Depends what time you are going for... but generally since boyes drive is included I like to go for 13 bar and upwards, as Tank has already noted. If you are going to wear that red sticker on your helmet for the cameraman, you may want to go with something slightly lower. I have found in previous years that my picture comes out blurry with tyre pressures above 12.5 bar - due to the increased vibration. You could however get the best of both worlds by installing a seatpost with suspension, or wearing 2 pairs of shorts. 12.5 bars and up you must carry a foot pump with you. If you puncture you will never get your spare tube up beyond 6 bar without one.
  21. Ye, Pete Calitz was despatched to the front bottom of ou kaaps. Apparently he pretty much destroyed our 1:40 advantage single handedly :'( At the Rollercoaster me and Robby had him in the break with us and we stayed away.
  22. I hit 70 down Slangkop yesterday - averaged over 60 top to bottom. I was away with Tarmac and Stuart Strang - figured we could make some time on the downhill, but when I got to the bottom the guys weren't there any more
  23. If you have a gym membership you could shower there. As you know your commute is 70+ km each way via the R44 - prolly more practical to park in Stellies and ride from there? Or do the whole thing if you like - good base training - not that you need it for most of our races When I first started doing funrides I once commuted Fish Hoek to town and back via Atlantic Seaboard 3x in one week - 90km a day, hard as I could on a steel bike with 10kg bag, about 1500m climbing x3 - then tried to go race on the weekend, only to find - suprise surprise - I was totally poked. Now when I'm racing I do easy stuff all week with maybe 2x10 minutes on a wednesday or a trip to Killarney at most.
  24. That server is up and down like a Woodstock gentoo on payday. The PPA site is also on it. So when Racetec comes down it clotheslines PPA.org.za as well. Ingenious.
  25. Lance Muller took the win in 1.38 - 61km/h average. His spinning classes must be deadly.
