  1. Thanx Dale...jip, I can also only find good reviews...strange that the guys mention the AM Classic wheels, never thought of them, but will have a look...much appreciated!!!
  2. Thanx Christie...I must this is my number 1 choice (for the last few weeks) and I have read very good reviews on other sites as well on the R80 C24 (as this is roughly in my budget )...I would have LOVED the DURA ACE C24's maybe on my next upgrade...LOL It's interesting about the training / group rides...never thought of it that way thanx for the heads-up!!!
  3. Thanx... never thought of American Classic they look awesome!!! Will have a look at them...
  4. This is on my wish-list or the 38mm...but I guess the 50mm will be better.
  5. Thanx...looking at +/- R 5000 to R 6500 - still need to buy some Conti 4000S tyres to add
  6. I need some help on deciding to upgrade and which ROAD wheels to consider...PLEASE HELP??? ***Or if there is a link to another "fred" on the HUB, please let me know, thanx!! I have a set of Fulcrum Racing 7 (training) and a set of SRAM AL27 (for some training and also races)...I know not the best wheels to choose from...he he he. - looking for something that will work well on the hills and on the decents...a balanced wheelset with good bearings and you don't need to check or true every month or 2... - also something that won't break a spoke every 4 or 5 rides...and easily serviced and replacable (if a spoke does happen to break) I am between 75 and 77kg - dependant on the time of the year...LOL Looking at the following wheels to upgrade to (as the budget is limited ) - numbered as from 1 is my favourite, etc. etc. - weights are claimed (per set) and without skewers and rim tape (as I can find them on the websites) 1. Shimano RS80 C24 - 1527g 2. Fulcrum Racing 5 - 1645g (or a budget stretch "Racing 3" @ 1550g)? 3. Shimano Ultegra (6700) - 1670g or 6800 - 1640g 4. Fulcrum Racing Quattro - 1725g (Aero wheels, but heavy?) 5. Mavic Cosmic Elites - 1770g (Heavy??) 6. Easton EA50 Aero - 1785g (Heavy??) = Not sure of Easton's as a few of my friends have broken spokes every now and then?? Any comments on above wheelset please?? or Any other suggestions to consider please?? or if someone has some Fulcrum Zero's, Zipp 101 or 303 at a ridiculously reduced price???
  7. Sorry to say that another cyclist has been hit this morning...not sure exactly of what happened (I know stories have 2 sides), but I just want to report and then will advise in a day or 2 if there is more news on this... The lady was struck down in Heidelberg by a taxi (she is a Biokinetikus at a local gym). Her collar bone is broken and she also has other injuries, but she is out of danger. If I have more details, I will post it here again. Safe cycling fellow hubbers!!!
  8. Late entries open for 94.7 (2013) not sure until when...wow they want to make it HUGE this year??? Entries to date = 32,517 Late entry fee = R400, or take Brogue's FREE entry https://events.primedia.co.za/index.php/eventSite/momentum-94-7-cycle-challenge-2013-11-18
  9. Sounds great I'll have to get my a$$ into gear and do more training...would not want to drop back and then get dropped from the group not a fast starter...but will wheel-suck for the first 10-20 kilo's if that's okay normally a better rider when the legs are pumping...and on N14 would like to be part of the "I-K" train...
  10. @ Escapee.. Looks like we have some good numbers in I-K You guys keen to pull together for a Sub 3? bmw1za Craig8252 Blitzer Mike Bike Ajwinters17 CASSIE1975 Prince Pusher ScrumpyJ4ck Lone One djvr Escapee.. HFS1000 scotty W1Z@RD ChunkyMunky Cav ***Are the guys in group I-K going to make their own group (inside each individual group??) Or how does it work?
  11. I'm in
  12. Great stuff list updated
  13. Hi bmw1za and Craig8252 also in group "I" and looking to do a 3h05 - 3h10, BUT with you guys chatting and encouragement I will have to train a bit harder the last few weeks to try and help in the group for that possible sub-3??? I am not a fast starter ("pen" as you say) and I usually have a cramp or 2 towards the end...but I can hold my own from about 20 to 75 kilo's into the race...maybe I can help and assist in between for you guys to get that sub-3 in the bag...if I can hang on at the start and maybe wheel suck the first 20km's then I am "IN"... :w00t: let me know...I will be interested...maybe it's a good day for me and we can all help each other and get to the end for a sub-3
  14. PS - if you are looking at getting some ARM warmers, LEG warmers and LONG winter pants from them...maybe look at a local supply on this as they have been a bit TIGHT squeezed and not the best fit (although some of them fit fine, it might be a better bet not to take a chance)...rather fit them at a local store before you buy as most of the suppliers sizes are different...but the shirts and short pants / bibs from MONTON are awesome!!!
  15. It's the FIRST time I hear of any complaints on clothes from MONTON (sorry jcza)!!! My wife and I have been using clothes from Monton for more than 2 years now (I bought some on my visit to China) and was also lucky enough that my friend brought some back for us again (2 or 3 times) while he was in China we have in total about 30 or 40 sets (shirts, bibs and normal short pants) and also 15 or 20 Winter cycling jackets, arm warmers, leg warmers, shoe covers, head sweat bands, etc...we use them on a daily basis and the chamois are MUCH better than the local stuff...my opinion all items we use are of a very good quality and not once have we had a seam come apart or really any other quality issue! The chamois were normally of a grey colour and nice and thin...some of the last lost came with a orange chamois and a bit thicker...personally I prefer the thinner grey chamois, but the Orange one also works okay. Unfortunately I can not comment on late deliveries / taking long to deliver, etc. What I can comment on is that the clothes are normally 1 size bigger than what you would buy in SA...I normally wear a size Medium and always order Large from them...the shirts are fine (I could wear a Medium from them, but prefer to play safe and go for the Large)...on the Bibs / Pants I prefer the Large...fits like a glove!!! It seams like the other Hubbers don't have any issues with quality, etc. and if you have 2 to 4 months to wait...why not, give it a go!!!
  16. ...and look out for the school kids with the "Stop" signs on the extended poles... Sorry that's my contribution for this Friday ...LOL
  17. Jip...and as mentioned before...if they get more cyclists going down that one-way, they have another "tick" to ban us from the Reserve...finish the ride with the "loop"...it's fun and very fast doing the last few kilo's.
  18. Only a pleasure F111 will also be there over the weekend...just need to confirm with the guys if it's tomorrow or Sunday looking forward to it...living in Heidelberg makes at least this ONE spot easy to get to...LOL Enjoy and have a safe ride...just check the downhills and don't be a hero on getting the best MAX Speed...the down's are fun, but very dangerous at times... and also keep your eyes peeled for the animals...almost had a nasty "one-on-one" with a Rooi-hart-bees last week...eish!!!
  19. The "LOOP" is only about 8 or 10km long and only the first 2km is "real" training with the tough hill as a start...the rest of the "loop" is almost down-hill the whole way... Do the whole reserve...it's about 58 to 60km and well worth training for 94.7!!! Or if it's your first time, do the loop a few times over and then when you feel ready...go back another day and do the whole route. It's tough and not easy, but also fun...everybody suffers there...well I guess almost everybody also like everybody else says...take enough drink (2 x bottles) and have a good breakfast and take some gel thingies with for a kick in the behind halfway through Just enjoy being outside in nature (with almost zero cars to attend to)...some animals along the way...and if it's the training you want for 94.7...then it's the training you will get for 94.7...and @ R11 per car and R22 per adult...well worth it!!!
  20. NOPE sorry...closing date was 1st October
  21. Also my first one this year looking forward to it
  22. That's some GOOD news to start of this Blue Monday they should have let the Rhino's have their way with the poachers...he he he
  23. True Fester I saw on one of their flyers that they request any tinned food (also I would guess any other donations) - my wife and I also have a monthly "debit order" for them...it helps with feeding the poor / destitute - if anyone else wants to do the same...I think the monthly donations run from +/- R30.00 (if you can afford more, then even better)! Phone them please! And YES...he he he...I must say the last little stretch (hill) to the end is a humm-dinger...LOL see you guys on Sunday!!! it's good training and a fun day out...and chaeper than a lot of other races... PS - you get your "chip" (to put round your ankle) at the regestration desk on Sunday morning...NOT Racetec or Championchip!
  24. http://www.n3tc.co.za/upload/2013/Entry.2013.pdf All I could find was a map to the venue (and other details) - see link above. NO...roads are not closed...jip some of the route is also part of the Race for Victory race that was help this past Sunday. The race is a 2-way race...the same way back from the middle (total is +/- 90km) Will be there...always a good race and a good cause... Last year we even got Coffee and muffins for FREE!!! Can't remember who the sponsors of the coffee was...but it was a BIG NAME BRAND
