  1. Dankie Willie...gaan jy hom ry hierdie jaar?? It makes sense thanx...will have to pick up those legs and stay in a big bunch for the first 16km's until we hit the N1 and then take it from there... I guess we will get our groups / seedings only in next week sometime?
  2. Hi Garfield and hboli4...sorry to burst in here...how far is Albrecht into the race? I normally ride a little bit concervative the first 60 to 70 kilo's of any race and then re-evaluate how I feel and take it from there to the end...or should we give it "bullets" from the start?? Should we be more "careful" of the hills from +/- 65 kilometers towards the end...are they "rolling hills" or more towards "rolling STEEP hells"? This is my first OFM and thanx for your kind feedback

  4. Keep the newer 105 groupset...should be similar to the 2011 Ultegra (what I mean is you should not feel a BIG difference) and the external cabling is not so nice... Save another year or 3 and upgrade to a 11 speed Ultegra...or by then upgrade your old bike to a newer model with a newer 105 or Ultegra groupset... he he he PS - if you do upgrade one day to the newer 11 speed Ultegra, just make sure that your back wheel freehub can accommodate the 11 instead of 10 speed...you might need a different freehub (or another wheelset if a 11 speed freehub is not available for that set)
  5. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-za/bikes/model/tcr.composite.1.compact/12718/59583/#specifications http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/221888022/bike-cr1-team-20-m54/ BOTH bikes 2013 as above links?? If these are the bikes mentioned, then The Giant would be my choice...Full Ultegra groupset The SCOTT has Shimano 105 groupset and is also secondhand...trade-in If you don't mind the 105 groupset...then maybe make them an offer of R14,000 or R15,000 for the Scott and splash the rest on a fairly good set of wheels (if you don't already have a good racing set)...The Mavic Aksiums will be good as a training wheel set...or keep the extra bucks for when you need it... Also make sure of your size on both...
  6. Jip...the biggest portion of the deal depends on the groupset and the wheels... Do you have any details of the spec's on both bikes?

  9. Hi Tjokkits, thanx for your reply and I sent him a PM now. Sounds like a good deal let's hope he still has them...
  10. Thanx Dale...jip, I can also only find good reviews...strange that the guys mention the AM Classic wheels, never thought of them, but will have a look...much appreciated!!!
  11. Thanx Christie...I must this is my number 1 choice (for the last few weeks) and I have read very good reviews on other sites as well on the R80 C24 (as this is roughly in my budget )...I would have LOVED the DURA ACE C24's maybe on my next upgrade...LOL It's interesting about the training / group rides...never thought of it that way thanx for the heads-up!!!
  12. Thanx... never thought of American Classic they look awesome!!! Will have a look at them...
  13. This is on my wish-list or the 38mm...but I guess the 50mm will be better.
  14. Thanx...looking at +/- R 5000 to R 6500 - still need to buy some Conti 4000S tyres to add
  15. I need some help on deciding to upgrade and which ROAD wheels to consider...PLEASE HELP??? ***Or if there is a link to another "fred" on the HUB, please let me know, thanx!! I have a set of Fulcrum Racing 7 (training) and a set of SRAM AL27 (for some training and also races)...I know not the best wheels to choose from...he he he. - looking for something that will work well on the hills and on the decents...a balanced wheelset with good bearings and you don't need to check or true every month or 2... - also something that won't break a spoke every 4 or 5 rides...and easily serviced and replacable (if a spoke does happen to break) I am between 75 and 77kg - dependant on the time of the year...LOL Looking at the following wheels to upgrade to (as the budget is limited ) - numbered as from 1 is my favourite, etc. etc. - weights are claimed (per set) and without skewers and rim tape (as I can find them on the websites) 1. Shimano RS80 C24 - 1527g 2. Fulcrum Racing 5 - 1645g (or a budget stretch "Racing 3" @ 1550g)? 3. Shimano Ultegra (6700) - 1670g or 6800 - 1640g 4. Fulcrum Racing Quattro - 1725g (Aero wheels, but heavy?) 5. Mavic Cosmic Elites - 1770g (Heavy??) 6. Easton EA50 Aero - 1785g (Heavy??) = Not sure of Easton's as a few of my friends have broken spokes every now and then?? Any comments on above wheelset please?? or Any other suggestions to consider please?? or if someone has some Fulcrum Zero's, Zipp 101 or 303 at a ridiculously reduced price???
  16. Sorry to say that another cyclist has been hit this morning...not sure exactly of what happened (I know stories have 2 sides), but I just want to report and then will advise in a day or 2 if there is more news on this... The lady was struck down in Heidelberg by a taxi (she is a Biokinetikus at a local gym). Her collar bone is broken and she also has other injuries, but she is out of danger. If I have more details, I will post it here again. Safe cycling fellow hubbers!!!
  17. Late entries open for 94.7 (2013) not sure until when...wow they want to make it HUGE this year??? Entries to date = 32,517 Late entry fee = R400, or take Brogue's FREE entry https://events.primedia.co.za/index.php/eventSite/momentum-94-7-cycle-challenge-2013-11-18
  18. Sounds great I'll have to get my a$$ into gear and do more training...would not want to drop back and then get dropped from the group not a fast starter...but will wheel-suck for the first 10-20 kilo's if that's okay normally a better rider when the legs are pumping...and on N14 would like to be part of the "I-K" train...
  19. @ Escapee.. Looks like we have some good numbers in I-K You guys keen to pull together for a Sub 3? bmw1za Craig8252 Blitzer Mike Bike Ajwinters17 CASSIE1975 Prince Pusher ScrumpyJ4ck Lone One djvr Escapee.. HFS1000 scotty W1Z@RD ChunkyMunky Cav ***Are the guys in group I-K going to make their own group (inside each individual group??) Or how does it work?
  20. I'm in
  21. Great stuff list updated
  22. Hi bmw1za and Craig8252 also in group "I" and looking to do a 3h05 - 3h10, BUT with you guys chatting and encouragement I will have to train a bit harder the last few weeks to try and help in the group for that possible sub-3??? I am not a fast starter ("pen" as you say) and I usually have a cramp or 2 towards the end...but I can hold my own from about 20 to 75 kilo's into the race...maybe I can help and assist in between for you guys to get that sub-3 in the bag...if I can hang on at the start and maybe wheel suck the first 20km's then I am "IN"... :w00t: let me know...I will be interested...maybe it's a good day for me and we can all help each other and get to the end for a sub-3
  23. PS - if you are looking at getting some ARM warmers, LEG warmers and LONG winter pants from them...maybe look at a local supply on this as they have been a bit TIGHT squeezed and not the best fit (although some of them fit fine, it might be a better bet not to take a chance)...rather fit them at a local store before you buy as most of the suppliers sizes are different...but the shirts and short pants / bibs from MONTON are awesome!!!
  24. It's the FIRST time I hear of any complaints on clothes from MONTON (sorry jcza)!!! My wife and I have been using clothes from Monton for more than 2 years now (I bought some on my visit to China) and was also lucky enough that my friend brought some back for us again (2 or 3 times) while he was in China we have in total about 30 or 40 sets (shirts, bibs and normal short pants) and also 15 or 20 Winter cycling jackets, arm warmers, leg warmers, shoe covers, head sweat bands, etc...we use them on a daily basis and the chamois are MUCH better than the local stuff...my opinion all items we use are of a very good quality and not once have we had a seam come apart or really any other quality issue! The chamois were normally of a grey colour and nice and thin...some of the last lost came with a orange chamois and a bit thicker...personally I prefer the thinner grey chamois, but the Orange one also works okay. Unfortunately I can not comment on late deliveries / taking long to deliver, etc. What I can comment on is that the clothes are normally 1 size bigger than what you would buy in SA...I normally wear a size Medium and always order Large from them...the shirts are fine (I could wear a Medium from them, but prefer to play safe and go for the Large)...on the Bibs / Pants I prefer the Large...fits like a glove!!! It seams like the other Hubbers don't have any issues with quality, etc. and if you have 2 to 4 months to wait...why not, give it a go!!!
