  1. Hi bmw1za and Craig8252 also in group "I" and looking to do a 3h05 - 3h10, BUT with you guys chatting and encouragement I will have to train a bit harder the last few weeks to try and help in the group for that possible sub-3??? I am not a fast starter ("pen" as you say) and I usually have a cramp or 2 towards the end...but I can hold my own from about 20 to 75 kilo's into the race...maybe I can help and assist in between for you guys to get that sub-3 in the bag...if I can hang on at the start and maybe wheel suck the first 20km's then I am "IN"... :w00t: let me know...I will be interested...maybe it's a good day for me and we can all help each other and get to the end for a sub-3
  2. PS - if you are looking at getting some ARM warmers, LEG warmers and LONG winter pants from them...maybe look at a local supply on this as they have been a bit TIGHT squeezed and not the best fit (although some of them fit fine, it might be a better bet not to take a chance)...rather fit them at a local store before you buy as most of the suppliers sizes are different...but the shirts and short pants / bibs from MONTON are awesome!!!
  3. It's the FIRST time I hear of any complaints on clothes from MONTON (sorry jcza)!!! My wife and I have been using clothes from Monton for more than 2 years now (I bought some on my visit to China) and was also lucky enough that my friend brought some back for us again (2 or 3 times) while he was in China we have in total about 30 or 40 sets (shirts, bibs and normal short pants) and also 15 or 20 Winter cycling jackets, arm warmers, leg warmers, shoe covers, head sweat bands, etc...we use them on a daily basis and the chamois are MUCH better than the local stuff...my opinion all items we use are of a very good quality and not once have we had a seam come apart or really any other quality issue! The chamois were normally of a grey colour and nice and thin...some of the last lost came with a orange chamois and a bit thicker...personally I prefer the thinner grey chamois, but the Orange one also works okay. Unfortunately I can not comment on late deliveries / taking long to deliver, etc. What I can comment on is that the clothes are normally 1 size bigger than what you would buy in SA...I normally wear a size Medium and always order Large from them...the shirts are fine (I could wear a Medium from them, but prefer to play safe and go for the Large)...on the Bibs / Pants I prefer the Large...fits like a glove!!! It seams like the other Hubbers don't have any issues with quality, etc. and if you have 2 to 4 months to wait...why not, give it a go!!!
  4. ...and look out for the school kids with the "Stop" signs on the extended poles... Sorry that's my contribution for this Friday ...LOL
  5. Jip...and as mentioned before...if they get more cyclists going down that one-way, they have another "tick" to ban us from the Reserve...finish the ride with the "loop"...it's fun and very fast doing the last few kilo's.
  6. Only a pleasure F111 will also be there over the weekend...just need to confirm with the guys if it's tomorrow or Sunday looking forward to it...living in Heidelberg makes at least this ONE spot easy to get to...LOL Enjoy and have a safe ride...just check the downhills and don't be a hero on getting the best MAX Speed...the down's are fun, but very dangerous at times... and also keep your eyes peeled for the animals...almost had a nasty "one-on-one" with a Rooi-hart-bees last week...eish!!!
  7. The "LOOP" is only about 8 or 10km long and only the first 2km is "real" training with the tough hill as a start...the rest of the "loop" is almost down-hill the whole way... Do the whole reserve...it's about 58 to 60km and well worth training for 94.7!!! Or if it's your first time, do the loop a few times over and then when you feel ready...go back another day and do the whole route. It's tough and not easy, but also fun...everybody suffers there...well I guess almost everybody also like everybody else says...take enough drink (2 x bottles) and have a good breakfast and take some gel thingies with for a kick in the behind halfway through Just enjoy being outside in nature (with almost zero cars to attend to)...some animals along the way...and if it's the training you want for 94.7...then it's the training you will get for 94.7...and @ R11 per car and R22 per adult...well worth it!!!
  8. NOPE sorry...closing date was 1st October
  9. Also my first one this year looking forward to it
  10. That's some GOOD news to start of this Blue Monday they should have let the Rhino's have their way with the poachers...he he he
  11. True Fester I saw on one of their flyers that they request any tinned food (also I would guess any other donations) - my wife and I also have a monthly "debit order" for them...it helps with feeding the poor / destitute - if anyone else wants to do the same...I think the monthly donations run from +/- R30.00 (if you can afford more, then even better)! Phone them please! And YES...he he he...I must say the last little stretch (hill) to the end is a humm-dinger...LOL see you guys on Sunday!!! it's good training and a fun day out...and chaeper than a lot of other races... PS - you get your "chip" (to put round your ankle) at the regestration desk on Sunday morning...NOT Racetec or Championchip!
  12. http://www.n3tc.co.za/upload/2013/Entry.2013.pdf All I could find was a map to the venue (and other details) - see link above. NO...roads are not closed...jip some of the route is also part of the Race for Victory race that was help this past Sunday. The race is a 2-way race...the same way back from the middle (total is +/- 90km) Will be there...always a good race and a good cause... Last year we even got Coffee and muffins for FREE!!! Can't remember who the sponsors of the coffee was...but it was a BIG NAME BRAND
  13. Thanx a million much appreciated...I have printed it out and will keep it handy if needed. also had a look at that knee review on "BikeRadar" looks like we have to take better care of our knees and legs (I think a big % of us don't really take care until it's too late )...after-all...that is the "engine" of our cycling!!! Will be more careful in the future and do more core and other exercises!!! thank you once again!!!
  14. Hi V12 - thanx for the info...sounds really hectic...please explain what NSAIDS drugs means? Or is it only anti-inflammatories as you mentioned? What do we have to look out for...or should we just mention this when going to the doctor that we don't want NSAIDS drugs? Thanx for you kind reply...

    D2D

It was my first D2D and did not know what to expect...as I have never trained the Lion loop (as some Hubbers call it) before...got away in group FL only and did about 60 to 70% of the route alone / between bunches and in the mercy of the WIND eina!!! Did a 3:28 and very happy about it...the end was REALLY tough, but managed not to stop (from all the cramping!!!) hopefully next year will have done more training up to now to get a more respectable time Just had an issue at one of the round-abouts where NO marshalls were and had to rely on another racer to help me not to take the wrong route (thanx again buddy!!!) but in all was a great race and with about total 900mtrs of climbing. Got my medal at the end (just after the finish)...great parking...thanx, will be BACK again next year!!!
  16. I'm IN my FIRST Race for Victory, so NOT sure what to expect...but sure enough it will be interesting!!! just hope the wind gives us a BREAK in 2 weeks time!!! eina...

    D2D

Also in...will be my first D2D thanx for the "heads-up" on the last 30km's
  22. We had: 1. Clamp-on to the back of the car racks, 2. Bike buddies (or whatever they are called) - suspention type rack, 3. Platform rack - which fasten your Top-tube and BOTH wheels. Prefer Platform rack!!! Bit more expensive, but worth the moola's...!!! BUT not sure about the MTB type terrains you mention...maybe someone else can comment as we normally just travel tar and off-road farm type roads...no problems yet!
  23. Also I don't think it's good for Carbon frames - as they are hanging (with a wing-nut type thing) fastening the top tupe, the bikes swing around and (depending on the frame shape) could damage the frame - not sure if your frames are carbon?? But I think worth a mention if someone else reads this thread...
  24. +1 = and it's for charity
