  1. I've entered for the 30-34 category too. Gonna have to pull something special out the bag (hopefully beer )
  2. http://youtu.be/CiGJi_BxRno
  3. The masters track splits from the elites track in places. So where Nige went left at cloud nine, the elites will head straight down (off the rock). The two tracks then rejoin each other in the corkscrew above Dr Evil.
  4. Good work Nige & thanks for the preview. I thought you said you couldn't jump... http://youtu.be/mqYQePqJAHc
  5. But you've indicated on the FB events page that you're going??? Hopefully this link takes others there: https://www.facebook.com/events/1393760547505519/ Alternatively search for the group "Mountainbikers do it downhill" and check out the "events" page
  6. Very cool weekend in the Eastern Cape. The venue for the 2013 DHI SA champs was just outside Addo and the Eastern Cape boys put a great track together. The track was fairly tight up top (the 3rd turn ended my race run after I wound up on my head ) which then lead into some great switch backs, before the 1st scaffold drop, the rock steps, down an awesome gnarly gully, the fence drop n double and then the dreaded pedal to the line. Should have taken the GoPro. The racing up front was super tight, until Tiaan Odendaal crossed the line and destroyed all the others. Took the win by 4 secs! He's now both the SA series winner and SA Champ. TOP 5 1. Tiaan Odendall 2. Stefan Garlicki 3. Adi van der Merwe 4. Jonty Neethling 5. Alasdair Fey
  7. Perhaps first try the R1's with 160 or 180 rotors...
  8. Nah Syd-O said it doesn't include the road gap. Not sure about the rock garden...
  9. Some local high lining. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jN-rYA2V5R8
  10. You'll have way more fun riding your bike. The track is open to all, so you can check it out this weekend. I'm pretty sure there will be guys practicing. The vid below is the track that will be used, only the surroundings will be a lot browner. As I said in my earlier post, there will be easier options around all the major obstacles. http://vimeo.com/36199637
  11. Agreed DD. However, also keep in mind that to date (apart from Thaba) DH riders don't get a heap of help from the general MTB community. We don't have races set up for us or tracks built (imagine the moaning if you asked the XC boys to come and build & maintain their own trails). That said we understand that they have numbers on their side. Everything is done by the riders often at their own cost... So I feel the term 'apathy' is a bit harsh. There is a tentative race calendar planned, but this is by no way set cast in stone (and is very much subject to how well the 1st event plays out). Race #1 - 28 July - Helderkruin Race #2 - 11 August - Thaba Race #3 - 8 September - 139 Race #4 - 22 September - Thaba
  12. Hey All, David Hogan & Ryan Frerich's are attempting to get the Gauteng DH race scene happening again. The 1st race is set to take place on Sunday 28 July. It is a one day event and the track is very Enduro/AM Bike friendly. All major obstacles have B or C line options so you can race as hard as you feel comfortable The schedule at this stage is to have practice from 08h00 - 11h30. Racing from 12h30'ish. 2 race run format with the best run counting. There will be various classes, including a Sports class and an enduro class (AFAIK). Where: Helderkruin DH track (Parking is on Graphite Road, Roodepoort) When: Sunday 28 July 2013 Cost: R150 per rider The race is currently self supported so if any one feels the urge to get involved please feel free to contact David (08 four seven 5 six 5 0 four 7). The aim is to get a series going and this will be the decider to see if it will be sustainable, so get involved! *EDIT to add. More info regarding the event can be found here: http://m.facebook.com/events/687897401236766?refid=28&_ft_=qid.5901524346884517341%3Amf_story_key.-5747247466022089109

  16. The Cane Creek partnered with Ohlins when developing the Double Barrel shock so you have options. http://www.wightmountain.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/cane-creak-shock.jpg http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2013/02/11/1360604555994-eeosehmh9c4l-280-75.jpg

  18. If the shock (I'm assuming it has a high volume air can, I can't remember...) is set up correct & you're still blowing through your travel, then you can look into shimming the air can. i.e. you consume some of the air cans volume with a shim to change the nature of the shocks behaviour (the white bit of plastic in the pic below). But 1st step is to make sure your initial SAG set up is correct. Only then would I start playing with the can. Plenty of info on the interwebs if you do decide to shim... http://fcdn.mtbr.com/attachments/shocks-suspension/453077d1241228223-anyone-running-high-volume-air-can-their-fox-rp23-_mg_1050-copy.jpg
  19. You shock's SAG should be set according to your riding weight, not according to the drops you're hitting. For AM SAG should probably be in 20-30% range, depending on personal preference.
  20. Confidence in the fact that you know that you're very unlikely to ever get the 1.2m drop wrong. I think courage can get you into trouble.
  21. On a team like this they're sporting a sequential box so he'll only use the clutch to pull off (using a clutch anywhere else wastes time and takes drive away from the wheels). Then like Nige says he'll just work through the gears when & where necessary.

  24. Nope, they are just spacers/void fillers to stop the quadring shifting about. Just be gentle when you take them out. Also, as per droo's suggestion, you can use gearbox oil to replace the Fox Float fluid. I have Bel Ray Gear Saver (80w) that I use on the dirt bike, so I use this when I do an air can service.
  25. You can reuse the ones you take out.
