  1. I was at the 2010/11 series in Oz and they (we) were doing it then too: I think it started with "We get two dollars to the pound" or somewhere near that value and ended about five or six. All good fun.... The comedian Adam Hills references it as the only time he's ever been heckled by an exchange rate. He was in England at the time.
  2. Testify!
  3. It might not work if it's the original version.
  4. More like cement mixture.. Just don't let it dry in the bowl: sets harder than diamond.
  5. Yep, the remains of a scooter were halfway into the Milnerton cycle lane last week.
  6. My sister in law's family had Fiat Uno that their Staffie destroyed piece by piece. Bumpers first, tyres, body work; the dog was a true artist...
  7. No worries, just be careful at the top of the bridge (northerly) if you're turning right. Trucks can get frighteningly close. As an aside, the cycle path is fairly well populated most of the day with recreational cyclists over the weekend. Especially mornings.
  8. They're a bit more forgiving at the weekend, as there are fewer commercial vehicles and more visitors to RCYC.
  9. Unless you have a permit i.e. you work in the area or are a member of RCYC, the Port Authority should not let you onto the access road. There's a strong possibility you could get mashed by some pretty large vehicles hurtling along that stretch of road. The cycle path is a lot safer. More cyclists travel this way without incident than most people think.
  10. Try Zando, they have a few in 12 and 13. Just a few mind. My bro in law has the same problem 12 /13 and oddly contoured feet.. The only shoes he really likes were hand made. Pricey!!
  11. That sound. Makes a four stroke racer sound like a diesel. Fantastico!
  12. Eye protection is important even in the dry. Ever been hit by a bee at 40km/h? It hurts. There's also all the other flying bits of wood with teeth and hairy legs, eleven pairs of wings etc. Blechhh... Yes, some hyperbole, but not much.... I think I've ingested a week's worth of protein via the insect world since Friday!
  13. Cheers. It wasn't too bad when I left but considerable around the Milnerton area and eased off into town about 0650.
  14. Soaked this morning into Cape Town. I really did question my sanity as I left the house; so did my partner, and the dogs and cats. OK though. Nice and cool... Showers at work are brilliant. Should have a nice following wind on my way home.
  15. First rule of accidents (once everyone is determined to be OK of course). DO NOT admit liability. That's what's written in all of my accident/short term etc.policies. Seems like a very nice lady. I think you'd be liable for repairs if it could be proven.
  16. Lots of cops on the way home on the cycle path from town to Paarden Eiland yesterday afternoon. None this morning though (at around 0620).
  17. This is good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BskSxMoQrwA
  18. I had a Suzuki RG500 in 1985/6. Being a massive Barry Sheene fan in the late seventies I just had to have one when they came out. 3000 - 6000RPM some power then at 6500 all of the power! After 8500 nothing. Four expansion chambers, two exiting through the tailpiece. Alloy frame, square four with twin cranks and disc valves. Cassette gearbox. Three minute warm up: start:- one cylinder, second cylinder, third and fourth come alive then click into first and carefully ride away. Give it about ten minutes normal riding then the looney power becomes addictive. A definite license remover. I'll dig out a photo. This thread has made me want a two-stroke again. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...
  19. I appreciate and understand the explanation. They still should not be called Aid, they are for profit organisations which are insuring you against medical expenses; ergo, insurance companies. I really should climb down from this horse......
  20. rant/ I've said this before: I wish the schemes would stop calling themselves "Medical Aid". They are health insurance. I know it's ingrained in the populace but there's certainly no Aid in Medical Aid. It is just (somewhat complex) insurance. I have no axe to grind, I recently had a hip replacement, the hospital experience was smooth and the care I've received pre and post op has been excellent. (Discovery). But it just galls me to see insurances allowed to call themselves something which they are clearly not. /rant.
  21. @Sepia. OT for a minute: heard Keef and Mik talking on BBC6 Music this afternoon on Radcliffe and Maconie. Short but very funny Keef's voice always cracks me up. Maaan... Probably on iPlayer and worth a listen.
  22. Thanks, will do, my doc says push yourself but not too much. Commuting twice a week with one recreational ride at the weekend. No mountain biking yet, just smooth road stuff.
  23. First ride into work since my hip replacement. Took it easy - arrived at work - no pain! (22km). It is such a great feeling; previous to the surgery I'd be growling at everyone and limping around the office. Looking forward to the trip home this afternoon. I'm still euphoric. I'll probably hit the metaphorical wall later and be sending emails with my forehead. But I. Don't. Care.
  24. Seconded on The Bugle. SpaceCats (last week) Brilliant, I nearly hit the car front I was laughing so much. 5 Live Science. Answer Me This - fortnightly and can be a bit annoying but is pretty funny. How Did This Get Made - Nice insight into the movie industry. Foul mouthed and at times hilarious, especially Jason Mantzoukas. If you like football: The Guardian Football Weekly is truly excellent.
  25. Spend. They're worth it.
