  1. I Loved my Santa Cruz Carbon Highball HT and didn't want to part with it but eventually did and got a 2014 Scalpel, its the best decision Iv made in 2014. DS all the way its so versatile
  2. I still think a scalpel is the best looking machine but this is knocking at its door, flip its a hot bike
  3. Bought loads from them never a issue
  4. The bike I bought came with sram xx1 & a cassette is +- R3800. Im just comparing to XT prices which I rode before
  5. I used to ride 3x10 but hardly used small ring and recently bought a bike that came with 1x11. it has a 34 blade in front and I find it to be ok, there is times when I feel I need about 2 more gears near the end of a 3 hour ride around the tygerberg hills trails, but I still grind through it. You can also buy a different front ring for climbing but has less top end to start off with & its only 4 bolts to loosen. Im loving having 1 shifter no front derailleur & no chain drops (yet). But if I never bought the bike like this I probably would have changed to 2x10 as it is a safer bet. Its the way forward for simplicity but its also not cheap to maintain (the downside)That's my opinion - use it lose it
  6. I have a pair of giro codes & old spez sworks both ride awesome but just bought a pair Sidi Drako's and they are by far the better looking havnt ridden them yet only got it yesterday but will advise when I do
  7. I don't even tell my wife things like this anymore as il get a ear full which is right I suppose because its getting out of hand. Should just start golf again and do spinning classes or just train indoors and only do races
  8. I use paraffin with a chain cleaning tool, the one that fits over the chain and you put the paraffin in close and turn the crank, works fine for me, used to use clean green before but find this works better
  9. Sold my Carbon Highball (( BUT buying a dual sus but so in between buying a Tallboy or a scapel 2
  10. Its getting bad out there for cyclists my buddy got taken out by a car in blouberg today and heard a Bonitas rider got stabbed 3 times while out training, Not sure where though. My wife is on my case about riding on the road nowadays. Not cool maybe should rather take up darts
  11. Ive been riding HT since I started 5 years ago currently on a SC Carbon Highball 29er with good specs which I love but rode a DS and it felt sooooo good In all areas so my mind is 80% made up to covert to DS going forward, now to sell the SC first
  12. OLYMPIC CYCLES they have a massive variety of SC bought my SC Highball HT there and if you decide to buy the frame alone & build a bike they have everything you need
  13. How I miss this section of trail it links all up so nice and is challenging, it gives so much more options when you plan a ride, Id like to know if Tygerberg MTB has given up on this or if they still licking ass because of that 1 person. Id even pay more yearly to get this route back, I enjoy climbing the mast even though they have tar'd the top piece making it easier but it also takes out the challenge. Any news on this
  14. I rode IKONS for three years and never had issues except for about 3 punctures, but tried out the Racing Ralphs and wont ever go back they better in every way, maybe see if you can do a exchange deal with cwc & get a set of RR's

    Let's help out Pottie

Gota B in it 2 win it, bucks is in
  16. Depends what you after, if its durability, long life & cheap maintenance XT all the way. I used to ride Egg beaters but now XT, happy with all round performance with them & find in the muddy conditions its not that much of a difference to hook in/out. My opinion between 2 brands havnt ridden others
  17. I am 1.8, 70kgs with bigish top legs and fit perfectly into a small mille Assos bib shorts. I have a medium Assos uno bought it when I was about 76kgs fitted perfect then but now its not a snug fit. Depends on how you like it to fit. Go try a pair on at a shop then decide & buy. That's the only way
  18. Go have a look at the fittrack and science to sport websites they have structured programs, maybe one of there programs might work

  20. If TopPeak Ergon pairs a top rider with Albin Lakata they could pull off a upset, He is a great rider and often pushes sauser to the limit in races, think he came second in world marathon champs last year. Its about time theres a change at the top
  21. New Tyres CHECK, Ergo Fit bike fitment CHECK, Bike serviced CHECK, Nervous/Excited for race CHECK, Training HALF CHECK. Now to go find some HTFU in the week. Accuweather says real feel about 26 degrees for Sat hope its right but this changes daily
  22. As a TMBC member i ride there often the new section is great, the added route makes this a worthwhile ride, spotted a karacul & snake there before so take care. Probably gota take more care decending the infamous Widomaker its a mean drop off. Not to be underestimated
  23. I have been running EA 70s for a year with gatorskins and havnt had any problems. My LBS recommended the combo for reliability. Cant comment on the other

  25. Bought new RR Snakeskins for this race normally ride with Ikons but they less than 50% tread & been told that tyres are important & should rather invest in new, especially for this race. Im 70kgs and not sure of pressure I must run these new bad boys. Normally run 2 bar with Ikons Any advise
