  1. At least the bunch is moving even if it's only 20 km/h. There are more taxis in Gauteng than cyclist bunches so if, hypothetically speaking, a taxi stops in front of one's car will there be mega hatred? Would there then be a boycott of a certain filling station because that's where they purchased petrol?
  2. Doesn't the answer lie with Strava ? More riders and a segment on the downhill therefore it's conclusive that no one is allowed to ride the tree line uphill.
  3. I've seen those security vehicles cruising down the pathways at closing time. Seems like the only rule that hasn't been broken is the aeroplane one. Not sure what it is though.
  4. This stuff must make you fast or strong or something special. The side effects according to Wikipedia don't sound like fun: Common (>1% incidence) adverse effects include: Xerostomia (dry mouth) Restlessness Nervousness Euphoria Agitation Arrhythmia Tachycardia Hypertension Diarrhea Vomiting Headache Rash Urinary frequency Facial oedema Unpleasant taste Urticaria Impotence Changes in libido Rare (<1% incidence) adverse effects include: Valvular heart disease (in combination with dexfenfluramine and fenfluramine; causal relationship unclear) Primary pulmonary hypertension Increased seizure activity in people with epilepsy Psychosis Withdrawal symptoms on stopping Dysphoria Ischaemic events
  5. I had a little problem with my tubeless tyre while on a ride Sunday morning. After pushing the bike for about 3 kays, Tertius from Cyclelab Little Falls drive past and offered to help. He not only gave me and the bike a lift to his shop but personally fixed my wheel while I enjoyed a complimentary coffee in his shop. He then refused to take any money from me for all this. While I was savoring the coffee I chatted to some other, equally helpful staff in the shop. Their helpfulness ensured that I complete the 110 kay ride I’d planned albeit a tad later than expected. Well worth a visit the their shop! I can say Cyclelab Little Falls is a truly professional outfit that has a great vibe. These guys are highly recommended. Keep it up, Tertius!!!
  6. Anyone able to assist with a lift from JHB to Swellendam for the 2013 event?
  7. It's becoming clear why the organizers wouldn't opt for using a courier company to send / deliver race numbers. Can't be more than R50 a pop. It's probably costing riders a lot more than that in petrol, time, parking, etc to trek out there in person.
  8. I now know, they dump like hell
  9. Guess I'm in the wrong business
  10. Does anyone know if the exhibitors have to pay to exhibit at the Dome expo on collection days? Surely they could charge a small fee for this and in so doing not have to recover so much from the "add-ons"? Just saying.
  11. Their business model is much like the SA tax system. Look at race entry fee R300 odd, re-seeding fee R150, change of name of rider fee R100, parking R20. In SA you're naive to think that you pay tax at 40%. Well income tax maybe, but if you add VAT, petrol levy, etc, its way more than that. Both of these entities make plenty $ but at the same time leading you to believe that you are paying too little and getting a good deal, and they are doing you a favour. Right.
  12. We are looking for a lift for one person to and from Swellendam for the 2013 event. Please let me know by a post here or a DM. Thank you.

  14. Hey Joe, I've also liked the organisation of the event. What got us ticked off was one of the errors was for a paid up elite licensed rider with a current seeding index of 2.14 on http://www.pedalpower.org.za. We were told to pay R150 before anything would be done by them. That's not on?
  15. Yes they were all re-seeded successfully. Question is - Is this rigmarole necessary? As was said by someone before if they use all races on racetec (and not only their selected ones) then this frustration won't be necessary. It would be interesting to know why they don't use all racetec races for seeding. Someone once said there was collusion.
  16. Thanks for the humour dipstick...as the juggernaut will invariable triumph I best get some (more) training in
  17. Common sense would say that if they took all races using the racetec chip into account there wouldn't be a need for re-seeding! If your one-third were all re-seeded @R150 then that's a lot of dosh created for someone. the R150 is over and above the R300 odd entry fee...
  18. I have been involved in more than four re-seeding requests with the race office this year. Each is merited based on the fact that the 94.7 seeding doesn't recognize races not on their list, such as Dome to Dome, Engen Series, etc. All re-seedings have now been approved after their verification of results. Seems however that there is no consistency in the treatment of each case. In some cases they demanded the R150 fee to re-seed but in others not. Just got off the phone to them. Wow. I kind of thought I was a client? Apparently not. Has this event lost its last bit of sparkle? Is it now only about the money? My experience shows that its just like a government department now. Rather unprofessional I'd say.
  19. Did you ever find out more about what was causing the cough? I had a similar experience and blood tests revealed an allergy to mould rather than Chlorine. The allergy caused the cough much like pollen can cause hayfever, I was told. Mould is is apparently found in/at swimming pools.
  20. Note sure if this is relevant, but Outsurance told me the Worldwide cover doesn't include if you enter a race where you can earn money as a winner.
  21. Slabs hits the nail on the head on many points.
  22. IQ of 2 should take TNT's advice and contact the shop to discuss the issues he has. He should then report back...
