  1. Hey BigS Go to www.bikeroutetoaster.com and make yourself one. Works like a charm. I am too lazy to ride from the garage, I just park near the hill on a side road (south side). Road is in pretty bad shape after the rains, was there about 2 weekends ago. Still a fun piece of road if you do not use the granny.
  2. A change (of handposition) is as good as a holiday. OK admittedly, I got a pair of Ergon grips with integrated bar-ends as a bday present and they are awesome.
  3. Similar to the guy who services my Volvo. He knows what OEM parts are supposed to cost. I asked him the other day how he can afford to charge only 35-40% of the dealers' price. He said it is easy, he does not buy from the local Volvo parts distribution, he buys the parts from overseas. Same part, same part number. And another little story: I am trying to buy one of those fancy ant+ weight (body composition) scales. I contact the local distributor, he is not selling it and not interested to bring one in for me. I contact the manufacturer. They sell online, but not to South Africa, as there is a local distributor. They are not interested to help, say I must sort it out with the distributor. Google a bit and find an American on-line shop that is willing to ship to South Africa, at half the price I expected to pay! Must admit that I also contacted WantItAll, sheesh, they asked more than double what it is supposed to cost.
  4. You guys must be doing something wrong with those suppositories. Works for me.
  5. Nice pics of the ladies.
  6. Lekka lekka! My main man Albert faded badly. But great show from Stybar none-the-less, well deserving winner.
  7. Us bigger folks are just not made for running Big J-WP. I last ran while in the army, and that was because I had to. Weekly shots of Voltarin kept me going. There was always something hurting, either a knee or a hip or an ankle. I remember breaking a bone in my left foot on the last day of 'Vasbyt', as we were heading towards the end, we had the bright idea to sprint the last few hundred meters to show off our fitness. Not a good idea with the grootsak on the back. Because I was the biggest in the squad I also had to carry the radio and pick and shovel. Afterwards I was on crutches for 6 weeks. Which led to the next interesting thing. I was previously only hitting around 8-10 pull-ups in the fitness test. After 6 weeks on the crutches I could hit 28. My push-up count also more than doubled. Now that was good cross training.
  8. @gummibear - Enjoy the show! C'mon people, surely there are more than 2 of us on the hub that follow cx?
  9. Any obvious contender I left out? Sad that Boom will not be there.
  10. That victory took some balls.
  11. I had one of those new Romans specials today, the one where you buy one box and get another pizza for free. Started at 11am and I have only 2 pieces to go. Did I mention it was a LARGE? Had many cups of coffee to wash it down. Ready for 5pm spinning class. PS. Romans special runs only until 25 Jan 2011.
  12. I was just trying to be polite, as the seller stated he was unsure. My grammar is based on politeness of expression. I have been taught that it is always better manners to point out facts with expressions such as "I think...", "Wouldn't you agree..." or "Maybe we can rather..." in stead of "You must..." or "Those are...". So what I actually meant to say was "Those are 2006 wheels in case you were wondering."
  13. I sometimes listen to music especially when I ride hills, but I never use earphones. I put my phone in one of those top tube bags that normally gets used for energy bars etc. and play the music over its loudspeaker, just loud enough to make out the beat. I have tagged all my songs with the BPM so that I can create a playlist with a specific cadence depending on the hill and what I want to achieve.
  14. I tried the 800 for the first time on the mtb this past weekend and I am happy with the performance. The screen is easy to read in sun light and in the rain.
  15. That Italian chick was cleared and won the national cyclo-cross title last week.
  16. I am not against anything 29er, in fact I will probably buy one this year, but as we all know there are pros and cons, depending on the route, rider, time of day, freshness of legs, route knowledge, phase of the moon, that little rock that was there just now but bumped of the track on your previous run, and of course Winnie Mandela's driver's last known traffic offence, This is just pure Spez Marketing crap. We all want to be as good on the bike as Dan, Christoph, Conrad and Burry, but unfortunately most of it boils down to genetics and talent, with a bit of hard work thrown in for good measure, Instant gratification, just buy our 29er and you will be faster. Clever. All PowerBalance buyers apply first. I have come to the conclusion that most of us (and that includes myself at the top of the list) are a bunch of sissies when it comes to off-road riding. Wheelsize this, tire pressure that, groupset here, fork there. It is a humbling experience to watch cyclo-cross and see what can be done on rigid bikes with skinny tires on tracks I would not even dare to venture out on the nicest of days. I repeat, we are sissies. And big ones. Nuff said, my rant is now over. Pass me the chocolate milkshake.
  17. Surely there are going to be a few aches and pains after a 2 year rest? I would also suggest coenie's advice if the discomfort persists with every ride.
  18. Slime extra protection at Sportsmans Warehouse. They weigh around 800g each. I train with them just for the added weight. Not nail proof though.
  19. No racing for me while on holiday, I have lots of silly excuses! Is this the same race that used to start and finish at the golf course?
  20. Hey Renier, when we going for a ride man? I thought you gonna give up the mtbiking thing!
  21. Weather has been awful lately in the J-bay area. Good for the dry areas though.
  22. That does not help, I still chew on my tongue.
  23. Have more sex. I find it practically impossible to eat while having sex.
  24. It seems interesting, but am I correct to assume that it can only simulate flat road? ie to generate more resistance you have to make the blades go faster? Maybe they will add some sort of artificial resistance (as an option) with version 2 to broaden its appeal?
