  1. What ratio were you running? I am busy building the bike but have a 18 as well just in case.
  2. Hell no! You have to be either insane or Chuck Norris to ride fixie mtb!
  3. 70km with single speed running 32/16 Weight 87 2.25 rear at 1.9 2.35 front at 1.6
  4. Lucky enough to miss the rain at this years sani2c
  5. Also rode in DL, could keep up with mr camelback and the lead bunch until halfway when they dropped us on a hill. Great fun doing a road race with my brother for a change, both of us wearing baggies!
  6. So I went out on Saturday to complete challenge 2, keeping in mind my gps watch does not give moving time but total time. Get home and did only 4:48. So had to go out again on Sunday
  7. Only 120 left to go!! #shutuplegs
  8. Did my first ultra, damn it was tough! After that 10k climb there was not much left in the tank but managed to finish. Had to have a serious talk with myself not to push my bike the last 3km. But overall a great day on the bike, well organized with amazing views and some proper trails.
  9. I still remember going up the concrete for the first time and halfway up the guy in front of me started puking. Thats when it dawned on me that this is going to be special. Such fond memories! I sincerely hope Advendurance got their **** together this year, looking forward to a good hard day in the saddle.
  10. I came across SBR while searching for help online, the only problem is that they are quite far from where I stay in Pretoria, but If they really are that good I might make a day out of it. However I am pretty sure it is not an ITB issue, although it could be aggravating the problem. The pain is definitely lower down where the hamstrings attach and not the ITB.
  11. I have entered for my first comrades this year and all was going well until about a week after Johnsons Crane, which was my first ever marathon. I developed slight pain in my left knee and the physio informed me that my hamstrings are too short, and this is causing extra friction where the tendon moves across the knee at the end of my stride. Now I am stretching several times a day to lengthen them but it seems like this will take several weeks to sort itself out. Any suggestions from all you pro's out there?

  13. Started trail running last year and loving it! Doing the trailblazer MTB on Saturday and Trail run on Sunday in Pretoria East. https://www.jumpertrax.com/ Going for the 28km, little worried cause the longest trail run I have done so far is 20km.
  14. Hardtail Cheaper lighterless maintenanceClimbs better, especially on smoother hillsFaster on hardpackMore preciseDual Suspension Less fatigue Gentler on the behindMore grip and better power transfer on uneven terrainFaster and more control on downhillMore forgivingMore versatile - Better at doing a bit of enduro or downhill In an ideal world you would have both and pick one depending on the type of trail you ride. Otherwise think of the type of riding you enjoy most or do more often.
  15. Specialized Phenom Expert Finally got measured and it turns out I need a wider saddle so got the 155mm. Could not believe how comfortable it was based on my previous saddles.
  16. Hiking in the Drakensberg over Easter weekend.

    USN Cup Races

The last thing I think of when entering a race is the prize money, and I am more than happy to pay for the enjoyment of the race. That being said, two years back my girlfriend came 2nd in the sub vet catagory for the 45km in the Beast of the East race, and she got R800. This is by no means a high profile race. It makes you think.
  18. Wow what an awesome race! Great balance of nice single track, switchback and technical.
  19. I went for a night ride last night with a new light for the first time. The light weights about 400g. I could honestly not notice much of a difference in the feel of the bike, but i seriously noticed the extra amount of light. Now I hear you say but what about rotational weight? Actually not that much of a difference http://biketechreview.com/reviews/wheels/63-wheel-performance I also used to be on mission to get my bike lighter but realized that you end up paying roughly R10 to loose 1 gram once you get close to 10kg bike. So to loose a 100 grams will cost about R1000. At the end i just don't think it's worth it. Better handling and tyres will make you faster IMHO, so rather get the bike fit right and swap out bar or stem if you have to. If you want to go 1x10 rather do so for the simplicity of the system. Unless you are a pro and 3 seconds will make a difference.
  20. I don't wear a watch
  21.
  22. Very interesting article: http://www.bikeradar.com/blog/article/the-best-mountain-bike-upgrades-bar-none-30297/
