Bugger, got a wedding on that morning.

I wasn't going to say anything... Its very easy to tar the SAPS/Politicians/Cyclists etc etc with the same brush and in this case, Dangle is quite right, and all I was venting is what I experianced in my own capacity, I know there are plenty SAPS who do great work and I feel for them as they often take the slack for those who do less of a job. Same goes for cyclists who take slack for others who dont tow the line and obey the rules. This is a highly emotional situation and has touched the nerves of many, including you, so lets be cognisant of that. I am very glad to have been involved to the extent that I have and put various parties in touch with each other in order for this to get to the point where it now at. It would be nice to have some of the guys working on this from Midrand Sector 4 out with us on Sunday!

I am pretty sure that the owner of the white Felt is Brki - he posted on the thread - chickenfarm 28/5 in the cycling safety section. There no name for him on his profile.. I PM'd him yesterday

Great initiative! Anyone got a bike I can borrow? 18"? Mine has not been recovered yet and I stil need to put some pennies aside to get the replacement. Insurance paid, but not enough.

Let not lose faith, although its hard not to do when you see the SAPS in action. At least we have som eprivate guys working on this as well. When you read about the apathy of the cops its no wonder that kangaroo style justice could be the best way, but that s not rght either..

The community dont like this any more than we do. After I got jacked we drove around a bit to see if we could find anything. eventually we saw a guy hauling ass through the veld and yelled. He did not stop and all gave chase. When we caught up to him the locals were having a good go. Its not right, but it shows that they too, are sick of this. I hope this cracks it open. I want my trail back!

So its been a few days and I have been away but I can report the following. I have mailed Tactical Reaction Services who patrol the area South of Summit rd. They are aware of the problem and are spreading the word amongst there data base and through other means. They have ties to various members in the cycling fraternity and I have sen the mails to this effect. This is good. I also mailed Monitor Net who patrol North of Summit rd. They too, are aware and are working with Crime Intelligence from Weirdabrug police station. This is good. They will keep me updated. I recieved a call from Paul Griffiths (thanks Troy) who works with the Midrand sector 4 crime forum and have given him the info I have. He is aware of the problem and is working on it. This is good I have tied everyone I have been in contact with together in order for them to communicate take over and do what they do best. I have seen the folk at Carte Blanche and they have the details as well as most of the info above with the relevant contact. Retribution is coming

So it all goes round and round... Its like most other things here in sunny SA - the Govt have other more important priorities to focus on and that, i am afraid filters right down. I hope the detective working on the case does his job and the file does not get consigned to a statistics pile or the recycle bin. If Carte Blanch want to get involved I will give them what info I have. If the Star want to report on it then I will give them what I have. When I hear back from my residents association chairman I will pick up on it for the next meeting and chat to the local security company and plot watch guys. Geting involved takes effort, but it is something we as tax paying citizens should not have to do. Awareness is one thing, for safety sakes etc. To actaully go out and catch them is another. Catch them and you may get to the root of it. Without dressing up in camo's and hiding in wait or patrolling with a bunch of bosbefok plot watch guys (God bless them as they do great work in our area) and someone acting as bait how else do you go about it? Who is in the informant game around here? Do you think crimline extends in to the areas that this occurs? Maybe, but i doubt it. Maybe the fact that a pile of phone numbers that ended up in my Outlook is the key to it all. Its like praying that you win that 20mil on the lottery. There is a small chance and if it comes through imagine the consequences...

Point t is that it is a symptom of the society we live in. We cant rely on the authorities to get to the bottom of it and need the buy in of media and other formats to bring this out into the open so that all are aware of for the safety of others. They are not the problem solvers but may be able to scratch open this issue that will then get it the notice it deserves. I have mailed my Residents chairman and will get onto the area plot watch. I have been in touch with eblockwatch but where does it stop? Who will take it on?

Have you had a gun or knife shoved in your face? Watched your bike that cost alot or a little ridden away by some thug and his mates as they jeer and laugh at you? Do you know what its like to see other groups of potential thugs in the path and have a knee jerk reaction and lump them all the same category? Try getting back on your bike alone and come across some innocent bystander taking a slash behind a tree. See what your heartrate does then! It may lead to nothing, but it may lead to something sooo much bigger Have faith As I for one dont like the thoughts that come to mind when i replay the incidents out in my mind and I dont want this to continue and I want to enjoy my section of the trail and feel safe on my own. The Star just called me. Picked up a Tweet from this morning. I am sick of this. I lay in bed last night thinking about this. I have not been back on a bike since and they have robbed me of something I love. I dont always have the time to get out to Teak, Van Gaalens and I refuse to be kept a prisoner, so make use of my local roads and footpaths. I will help where I can

I got jacked 3 weeks ago just off Summit rd - R562, by the same 4 guys that nathrix reported yesterday in the same area. they took my phone as well Whoever took my phone (wether it be some arb dude who bought it for R100 or someone else) put his SIM in the phone and synched it intentionally (or not) at 02h30 - after hours! The next day all his contacts appeared in my Outlook folder on my laptop The names are mostly of Muslim persuassion, there is a few international numbers of places in Lahore and then one called Boss Digest that for a sec. I will meet with Carte Blanch for sure to see if we can get deeper into this

I am doing just that. We have quite an active Plot Watch group in the Mnandi area and although the Blue Hills area is out of theor jusrisdiction I am pretty sure it is the same group of thugs who are just widening their area of operation. Watch this space

I got jacked a few weeks ago oalong the dirt rd that runs off London lane. It upsets me to see that they are now creeping further South. This is my area to ride and I can t always afford the time to head off to Van Gaalens, Teak, Northern Farm or Fountains. It seems to be a repeat pattern but just the location that changes, so I am sure that with a bit of a plan they can be caught. It just takes willing participants.. Anyone keen?

Thanks man, me too. Scary thing to happen. Just cant believe the oppportunists just sitting in the grass waiting. Therea lot we can read into this and the causes of, but the bottom line is that there are those who less fortunate than others and have turned to violence and itimidation to make a buck or 2. Its an unfair way to ruin my day all for what?
