  5. its G for GO for the Hill Climb. start list was mailed to all participants this morning.
  6. Windy ride this morning. thanks to Tyrone and Jono for pulling us into the S'easter.
  7. Josh , make sure you know the route or at least have an idea when a turn should be.

    Rugby...

the last Bok team to play rugby was the one that Carel Doep coached. since then our players are of the opinion that they are able to run thru/over a player. the biggest culprit is Jean de Villiers as he should know better. italy, argentina and japan play with more flair and creativity in the backline than us. our game plan is so predictable it is unbelieveable. i couldn't believe that with 5 minutes to go Pienaar was still kicking up & unders from the base of the scrum. is this the best meyer can come up with, if so , then he has no faith in his backline to get over the advantage line on their own ball.

    Rugby...

so we lost to the All Blacks and are now firmly entrenched in the no2 spot in WORLD RUGBY ' old boys club'.

    Rugby...

its funny how the 'rugby public' always bring up soccer when their game is criticised.
  11. John raced in the juniors for City Cycling & Athletic Club in the 60's , he revived his interest in cycling in the 1990's and was the City CC chairman from about 1998 to 2001. a true gentleman. RIP
  12. most group rides have someone being in charge of the route etc etc (even on an informal basis) and its this person who sets the tone. we had the same problem where some of our club members totally ignored traffic regulations and some that obeyed them. during the winter months when the group was smaller we enforced the red light stop (even when there was no traffic in the intersection). this was about 4 years ago. since then anyone that joins the City CC ride knows the rule. we stop at red lights and no middle figure to the hooters. and it works becos of peer pressure - no-one wants to get in their ear from 30-40 club members when skipping a red light.
  13. ooops - an sms was sent out.
  14. if the bike is fitted with shimano just take off the gears that aren't allowed and adjust the shifting. yr lbs will be able to help. make sure you get back unwanted sprockets because you need to add them back as your youngster gets older.
  15. the easiest is to use a 52 x 18 as it falls within the limit. a 52 x 17 falls outside and the bike will roll out. pm me and i will email you a pdf file with all the gear ratios.
  16. i played for this club in the 80's
  17. looks like they going thru & off hence the bunched up situation.

    KILLARNEY

unless it's changed handicapped racing means you race to catch the plus 1 and plus 1 race to stay away. when you catch the group ahead of you then the race has been neutralised and whoever wins wins. this type of racing is big in Os. the old Typo Cycling Club used to have a handicapped race over 100 k's.
  19. i am looking for road racing routes in the S West / Strand area for next years's WPCA winter league. any suggestions? from my racing experiences out there, are the following routes still viable? Winery rd, Steynsrust, Bredell ,r44 circuit Raithby crit Would the local traffic / municipal authorities entertain any application to use the following roads: the climb up to the dam wall from G Bay (hill climb) an out and back road race along the R44 to Pringle Bay would the above routes lend itself to a road event? taking into account parking, safety, road permission
  20. crown cycles or olympic cycles (lansdowne area)
  21. Beaut of a morning and not a breath of wind. i am on a recovery week so my ride consisted of maintaining a good cadence and smooth pedal stroke throughout the lap. Steve & Nico kept me company and we still averaged ±38 kph on the flat straight section of Giel Basson and Plattekloof and concentrated on maintaining a 80-90 cadence on the 'hill' . it wasn't a very intense ride for us but the other 5 riders in the faster group gave it horns in prep for the next league race. on our last lap we noticed an old friend peeping over the Tygerberg hill. summer is on its way.
  22. city cycles is a shop. if u mean City Cycling Club then yes. we start at the BP in Letchworth at 5am.
  23. funny enough not a drop in Edgemead. it came down in Koeberg Rd, Rugby and then again along Marine Drive past the lagoon. we turned early rode back to E'mead and were greeted by bone dry roads.
  24. 8 papnat cyclists.
  25. the paardeberg circuits must be one of the hardest routes to race on. to average 38-40 kph for that course means the standard of racing is high.
