  2. i was able to track down the driver. this letter was delivered to his address: Dear K..l we have never met before although we had a close encounter the other day when you attempted to force me off the road in your car. i have consulted with the police and their prosecutor and we are of the opinion that to pursue charges of attempted assault alternatively reckless driving against you would be futile as it is your word against mine. my complaint has been noted by them, please change your attitude towards other road users and especially cyclists. May we never meet again. your fellow Edgemeadian
  3. " MTb became the new golf" can someone explain this statement to me.
  4. my daughter & stoker
  5. my stoker - on Bottelray road
  6. priceless quality time: my son who is 16 on his own bike and my 20 year old daughter with me on a tandem. the simplest little things stick in their minds, like: the early morning dew that collects on their eyelashes when the mornings are a bit misty. the smell of the sea riding thru Moullie Point. the smell of coffee in the same area past Newport. seeing the sun rise over Rietvlei. spotting birds of prey on Contermans/Malans/Adderly/v schoorsdrift commenting on the various shapes and sizes jogging along the clifton to camps bay strip. hearing them say 'its cold but i feel so alive'
  7. incident happened in Edgemead, hard shoulder which was blocked by a vehicle, so we went round and started to overtake on the right (this is where we should have been in the first place according to the rules of the road). but BM then started playing games with us by accelarating to close the gap to the car in front of him. i got in behind him and shouted 'don't be a ****'. we both turned left with me on his inside, he then squeezed me up against the curb. a few metres later the traffic had backed up at the 4 way stop, so with no alternative i attempted to pass on his right, he then moved over to the right as well. i backed off because of oncoming traffic. got his reg number. by this time the traffic had stopped dead, i went past him turned left at the 4 way stop and jumped off my bike to wait for him to get to the 4 way stop. he turned the same way as i did but didn't have the guts to stop. i just couldn't get my cellp out in time to get a pic. we are in the same neighbourhood and i will find him.
  8. i had an previous similar incident wrt to my work and on advice lay an attempted assault charge at the local saps. spent about 2 hrs making a statement and helping the captain write a decent account of the attempted assault (with a garden fork) in english. afterwards i received a call from the detective saying he will visit the person and then take the case to the prosecutor. heard nothing since. i don't want to waste my time again. i will write to my local councillor - he is very pro non motorised transport advocate and maybe he can get the local traffic police to make a visit to the owner of the vehicle. the driver lives in close proximity to me as i tried to follow him thru the suburb. i will find him eventually.
  9. i experienced an irate motorist tonite while on my way home from a ride. i was squashed against the curb and then when i wanted to overtake on the right (cars backed up to the 'stop sign') he attempted to push me into the oncoming traffic. reg nr CA 284 614 - blue BM

    Burgled

a friend of my daughter got burgled a couple of months ago. alarm company was ADT. the perps went thru the security gate and the locked front door, took all the lap tops and tv. the ADT patrol was parked 1 street away during the entire operation. draw your own conclusions. we had an ADT rep call on us a few years ago, her opening spieel was 'do you know that there were 15 (if my memory serves me correct) murders in Edgemead last year', this in front of my kids. wot a load of BS, so i chased her out of my house.
  11. there are many examples where 'roads' have taken away the hard shoulder to increase the number of lanes , one example that comes to mind is between theo marais and the old killarney hotel traffic lights. the hard and wide shoulder on the sea side after the flea market site could have been taken away to build a cycling lane, this leads all the way into the harbour. no need for security cameras, no pedestrians, no quiet areas, no bridge overhangs (where the muggers hide). no need to cross so many roads.
  12. before the City of CT designs/builds more cycling lanes i certainly hope they sit down and think about the end result. lanes don't need poles in the middle of them with a sign of a cyclist on top of it. if they are going to spend funds on the lanes then go big ie make them wider and in 1 direction. with just a little thought, the cycling lane from TV to CT could have stayed on 1 side of the road without out it crossing into P Eiland.

    WPCA Team Time Trial

WPCA have been denied road permission for the following events: Team Time Trial – 27 May 2012 Sacks Circle – 3 June 2012 Please inform your members that the above 2 events have been cancelled. The team time trial event will if possible be postponed to 17 June. We are meeting with Provincial Traffic on Monday in this regard. Graham Ward – WPCA Road Commissioner
  14. i agree, use it , don't use it. the club i belong to uses it if we are going thru to CT to bypass the h'way. in the mornings we have a group of 10+ and it's basically head down and flat out all the way from P eiland to B bay. for me, i have seen a significant increase in people riding bikes especially families with young children. and in this day and age with kids stuck in front of tv and pc s , the more the children are exposed to the outdoors the better.
  15. i train at 5 in the morning - riding at between 35 - 40kph - from Edgemead to P Eiland to Big Bay & then back to Edgemead. a lot of the route is on roads with no paths available. i (we) just stay on the road and take our chance with what little traffic is about at that time of the morning. and yes we have had the odd motorist hooting at us (we've been training like this for the last 2.5 years throughout the year) but we are well lit up front and back. for commuting the path is fine.
