  1. OWS - ?? if you have a car you are welcome to join us in edgemead. pm me
  2. i just bought a 10 speed campy cassette and chain for R1 100 from Total Cycling. had it delivered to a friend's house in the UK. he will deliver it tomorrow when he arrives on holiday. i reckon a saved about R500.
  3. i have ridden a few DC's in my time including the very first one, this time i followed the race in my car from about 9.15am, starting in s'dam. i was pleasantly surprised at how clean the road was all the way from S'dam till the 1st team i encountered on o'd' Tradouw ie no gel wrappers, litter etc etc other than 1 water bottle in the middle of the road. on the way to m'gue i did encounter teams riding on their own slap bang in the middle of the road, 4 to 5 teams piled up on each other with their back up vehicles following. generally, overtaking them wasn't a problem for me. what i did find funny was when i was sitting in the queue at the M'gue/Ashton/s'dam t junction and this one team was riding down the right of the lane, the lead rider was waving at oncoming traffic to get out of his their way. don't riders realise that the roads aren't closed for their exclusive use. all in all i think the ride went much smoother this year with the feeding zones and in future any transgressions must be severely dealt with.
  4. there's an attorney in upington called matthewson who rides,as does his son. and i'm sure there are a few clubs there as well.
  5. the argus isn't a race in the true sense of the word, it's a timed bicycle ride. there are no tactics, it's just one big team time trial. i have suffered more, mentally & physically in a 50 km club race than in the argus. in the argus, i am more worried about getting to the finish without in one piece.
  6. no , but i've seen Mohamed Hajjam
  7. go to www.citycyclingclub.org - we operate from Edgemead, you are welcome to join us for a ride no strings attached
  8. got dstv - don't watch the programme.

  10. hill intervals - once a week. if you have the time during the week - ride for 2 hours at just below race pace then do intervals (but not every day). you have to factor in a recovery ride or 2 other wise you'll kill your legs.
  11. race organizers make the dates for their event, CSA just compile the calendar for our convenience. so if your 2 favourite events clash contact the organizers of the events and take it out on them.
  12. wait till the law abiding cyclists get into their cars. i have witnessed them driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic and then moving further to the right onto the hard shoulder to get into Killarney racetrack on a Tuesday. it's like "@&$$ the law, i'm going to be late for the PPA training session, i'll drive where i like." they make taxi drivers look like angels.
  13. from what i know of that area wrt roadworks all road users driving outbound from CT to S'town use the Main Rd, from S'town to CT all road users must use Boyes Drive. What do the local clubs do on their weekend rides?
  14. i noticed that the left pedal is not spinning as usual when clipping in. i removed the pedal and it feels a bit rough. i removed the spindle and there are 2 sealed bearing on the spindle and these seem to be the problem. are these replaceable ? if so by whom? my LBS can't help. Help
  15. without its sponsor and 200 mtb'ers who pay R12 000 each to compete, the Epic would not take place, nor would they be able to fund invited pro mtb'ers. a "tdf" type event without a major sponsor or without csa involvement is almost impossible.
  16. schleck should have been penalised for being pushed by spectators after dropping his chain.
  17. if someone goes down in the the bunch . the last thing we need is for everyone to look around wondering if all and sundry that have fallen, are ok. if you are concerned (or if you have caused the fall) , slow down until the rest of the bunch have ridden past you then ride back to the "scene" and then do the necessary. cycling is a great sport and falls are part of the game, they are going to happen. period. get the bike, yourself fixed and start again, slowly and have fun.
  18. the Outeniqua Pass - from George to the summit is a quite a long climb. i rode it the day after the Knysna Race. it was also part of our ride back to CT on bikes. we had already ridden from Sedgefield , thru Wildernis to George on the old road so i wasn't looking forward to the climb. other climbs in and around CT that would compare somewhat in length to the TdF would be Bains Kloof, du Toits Kloof and Franschoek Pass but the gradients are not nearly as severe as TdF. Huisrivier Pass outside Calitzdorp and Garcia Pass outside Riversdale are also long but pleasant climbs.
  19. this is a classic - "Steve Meltzer Customers from East London complained because there was a new bike shop that opened up, but it was professionally run etc. The other bike shops moaned. How do we differentiate between certain accounts to new stores? How do we discern between shops who take us for a ride, and those that are good bike stores." it seems that the industry contains a certain amount of childish imbeciles.
  20. i bought 4 pairs prior to the start of the wc from a mom of one of the boys who plays in my son's soccer team for r200 ie r50 each. it looks like bafana's performances have pushed up prices.
  21. when an infringement is committed, the ref points in the direction in which the benefiting team is playing. offside - when a pass is made to the attacking team, all attackers must have 2 players (a goalie is a player) between themselves and the goal (don't get confused between when the ball is passed and when the attacker actually gets the ball). you can't be offside from a throw in. u can't be offside in your own half. u can't be offside if your opponent makes the pass (backpass to goalie) and a deflection off a defender doesn't count as a pass. the keeper isn't allowed to pick the ball up or handle with his hands if a defender makes a deliberate pass to the keeper, he has to kick it.
  22. the tree has been shaken for 4 days now, any news?
  23. got an email from the CSA today - 1 of the criteria for hosting a cycling event is that you must have "event insurance (full)". i can only assume that this is insurance that organizers must take out "just in case" something extraordinary will happen and that the cost of the cover is going to exhorbitant, and the cost will be passed onto the participants.
  24. i'm going thru the same problems, the bike has campy components with a 53/39 chainring. so i'm also looking for a 52. any 2nd hand ones on sale? the biggest problem is getting the correct sprockets for the back.
