what daniels did is way beyond what is accepted by the officials and participants wrt aggressive riding. whatever his story is does not give him the right to lean over and cause a rider to fall. his club & province should revoke his csa license. any other club / province should turn down his application for membership. then lets see what csa do.

i don't think we have heard the last of this issue.
  8. buy a winter running vest ie the one with long arms and wear it under your cycling jersey with armwarmers. i use woollen gloves as they work better than fancy long fingered gloves sold by the lbs. wear legwarmers. wear buff and shape it into a beanie to cover the ears. on really cold days i'll wear toecaps.
  9. in last years masters group in wp champs , paul meinking punctured. there was a loud pffsssst and a fountain of sealant on ever rotation of the back wheel for about 5 secs then it sealed. the puncture then reopened about 3 more times in the following few minutes and resealed everytime. he went on to win the race. i can only guess that he had tubeless.

Bradwin Daniels has been included in the Juniors W Champs training squad subject to the outcome of his disciplinary hearing. and so is the rider that fell and broke a bone.

does he ride that route every morning? we haven't been so consistent with all the public holidays and the young ones in our group are hurting us. i dropped off this a.m. to ride with one our older riders who rode for the 1st time this a.m. next tuesday - weather permitting - i will shout leeeet to every cyclist we pass.

    Lone rider

we are a group of riders that ride from Edgmead down to the old P Eiland power station on a Tuesday morning. see group rides. we arrive in that vicinity at about 5.30 - 5.45am. there have been a few occasions where we have seen a lone rider coming towards us from the direction of Milnerton / Table View and this morning we actually hooked up because we turned onto Marine Drive after he had made a u turn at the power station. we rode all the way to Big Bay together. if any hubbers is said rider or know the cyclist. PM me. i want to coordinate our ride to hook up more often. safety in numbers etc
  13. the loose piece of canvas is part of the tubby.
  14. well said - many riders don't realise that to ride faster/get fitter there are times when you need to ride slow. the idiots that want to sprint and go "mal" must do this in their own balls to the wall training sessions.
  15. i can assure you - City Cycling Club stop at all red lights on our official club training rides. the only one we might skip is the one in the middle of the Foreshore which is on a timer.

some riders are taught to win at all costs from a young age. there were u16 riders who had medaled in SA's in the 1st 3 days who all of a sudden rolled out at gear checks. someone was a bit suspicious and asked that the official at gear checks be changed and lo & behold some rider's bikes who had previously rolled in now rolled out. the sad part is that these riders were then left to their own devices by their parents/coaches to now go and beg other participants for sprockets/blades.

in days gone by u had to qualify to ride champs especially in the timed events and your club and province had to sign off your entry form before sending it onto SACF. not now, u just enter and ride. it was amazing the amount of upcountry riders slid down the banking becos they were riding too slow.

track etiquette on the Bellville track wrt warming up and training sessions is still a bit dicey (this is when the Wayne Pheiffer incident happened). wp officials are always reminding participants of racing safely on the track. in the Pheiffer jnr / Daniels incident , Daniels lent over and pulled on the handlebars of Pheiffer causing him to fall. Whatever happened prior to that is of no relevance, elbowing and making body contact is acceptable within reason and the fact they were still on their bikes suggests this, if it wasn't reasonable or unsafe then the officials would have made a decision on appeal from a manager (Daniel's manager would have appealed). Daniels took the law into his own hands.

if you are familiar with track cycling then you never take your hands off your handlebars until you have stopped your bike to get off.

a lifetime ban - NOW. nothing less.
  21. ja , you are right , not clever. use the damm hardshoulder if there is one but like i advised (my friends and family) you as the motorist have the choice.
  22. they banned derailleurs in the early 1900's as well
  23. Geez, i haven't read Bicycling since the CNA closed down in Voortrekker Rd, Bellville in 1999. what's up? enlighten me.
  24. i find it easier to greet and tell the guy 'hook on'. it irritates me when i'm on a lekker easy ride and some dude flys past without greeting then looks back to see if you are there. thats when i chase and when(if)i catch, ask "do you mind if i sit your wheel"?
  25. my standard reply to non cycling family members and friends who vent their frustrations to me because of stupid riding habits cyclists and mtb riders is "count to ten and exercise a bit of patience or drive over them and have a case of culpable homicide opened up against you, take your pick".
