one of the kids in the neighbourhood is currently riding his dad's 1970's Peugeot and wants a 'real racing bike'. His dad asked me to look around for a entry level 2nd hand road bike in the R2 000 price range. pm me.
the track bikes were systematically stripped of chains, wheels, handlebars, cogs, cranks and chainrings by persons unknown. a case of theft should be opened and investigated.
geez - you mtb'ers have seriaaaas issues. over the boerewors curtain it seems as if 1 in 2 mtb'ers don't bother to buy their boards which allow them access to all the trails nor do they pay in the 'honesty box'. so much so that the okes in charge are employing people to set up a toll of sorts to collect the moolla.
solution - make the downhills too steep/hard for anyone to ride up. hell, if a novice / kid is riding up your downhill then ..............need i go on.
all the mtb trails between d'ville, wellington ,Paarl,S'bosch,s/West & Bottelray will eventually link up to form a circular route. i don't mt bike but i have heard that there is just 1 more trail to complete before the link is complete. there is also a mtb trail from Cape Point to C Town in the pipeline, i have heard that the land has been made available.

Kimmage rode the TDF clean. ones opinion of books is subjective. you can't name names if you don't have irrefutable proof. journo's in the field of sports reporting won't earn sufficiently from only one book and defintely don't earn enough to employ fancy lawyers to defend themselves against TDF winners
Kimmage rode it clean. Read Bad Blood by Jeremy Whittle, there are riders in Europe who ride clean but they just did not feature or were shunned by the pro teams. nowadays it just isn't worth it to be caught especially if you are French imho i think the majority of the riders are still being "helped" by the best their support staff can get and still keep the rider legal.
the people that i know who do the k2c every year sleep in uniondale the night before the start and have a dedicated driver drive their vehicle to knysna. if there was an easier solution i'm sure these guys would have known about it b'cos they been doing this for the last 4 years.
enough mtb'ers have been mugged in that area including one that serves on the PPA committee. surely it would be easy to plot the hot spot, organise a vigilante group to stake out the area and set up a sting. i'm sure my club who have members who ride TM every other weekend can supply a few 'breekers'.
my major cycling equipment purchases in the last few years: set of Krysrium wheels - R2 500 saved Look Keo pedals - R500 saved Helmet = R400 saved Campy Chorus groupset - R4 000 saved Polar HRM - R500 saved all purchased from CRC & Total Cycling. i'm in the market for a new frame & fork and i refuse to pay big bucks for a carbon fibre frame. i support my LBS (a 1 man show with a mechanic) but he couldn't compete with the prices i was getting from the o/seas suppliers for all my spares. btw Look didn't stock the pedals i bought for R750 from CRC they were too expensive for the local market.
