  1. the first time i saw a pic of a downhill rider i thought fc** what happened to the engine.
  2. Dennis is a 70 odd year old member of City CC. He rides to Camps Bay every Sunday for a cuppa coffee at the Sandbar and to view the sites. he normally rides with a friend but with the weather as it is today it seems as if he took a chance to go by himself. he is fine apart from a bruised hip and phoned me to warn other members to avoid the area.
  3. one of our members was mugged near the Culemborg section of the cycle path. this area is resident to a fair amount of homeless people. they got his cellphone and wallet. please be warned.
  4. come and join us - we will give this Tuesday a miss becos Wednesday is a HOLIDAY and we will be meeting at the BP Service Station Letchworth Drive @ 7.30 for a lekker ride.
  5. dawner but it was cold this morning.
  6. Sean , are you with the first runner ? please don't wander onto the wrong route.
  7. yes , 2moro @ 5 @ BP for our 9 k circuit. be prepared for a good workout.
  8. set the alarm for 4.30am for a few days before you have to get up for our ride - get the body clock used to waking up at that time. i set my alarm for 4.30 which means i have to get up straight away - no snooze - , grab a bite (half banana or even a sweet or 2) get dressed, mix bottle, we we, get bike and be off by 4.55 to meet at 5. all of us don't want to dissapoint each other so it's a committment i have to keep.
  9. 7 riders this morning. nice fast ride. but winter is on it's way. arm warmers are recommended.
  10. City Cycling Club - check their website. weekend rides/routes are up on the weekly newsletters by Thursdays. Saturdays are reserved for a club ride where we encourage the group to stay together (this saturday a lot of us will be bike marshaling for the 2 Oceans so the group will be small). Sundays is a training ride. on both days we regroup at various points on the route to ensure that all that start return safely.
  11. We beat the predicted South Easter - beautiful windless morning.
  12. we start @ 5am from the BP Letchworth. we are back by 6.30am the latest. we are only riding on a tuesday and thursday morning. lights - front & back recommended.
  13. 6 of us pitched. then it started raining. what the hell. off we went. 1 km in & the roads were dry. fantastic ride. beaut of a morning. we averaged 36 km's to the T'view circle then our pacer had to turn for home. overall - distance 45 kms @ a 32k average.
  14. Southern East & South France , i stayed in Marseille and Montabaun (40 kms outside Toulouse). most of the roads are in good condition with dotted lanes for cycling in/on. plenty of small villages to replenish and rest. it can get very hot in summer.
  15. i used to commute. with only a hand basin in the toilets, i used a facecloth to freshen up. wear a vest with your change of clothes. remember, fresh sweat does not smell. its the day old sweat on yr clothes that honks.
  16. N7 just past the dump site entrance. van schoorsdrift road , if you ride from the n7, at the spot where the gum trees end.
  17. We have a training group that ride to the old power station in perde island every Tuesday morning. we leave Edgemead at 5.00am and ride down Dos'dam into C City and cross over into Sanddrift, turn right at the 2nd rd (Pringle Rd) ride along here all the way thru s'drift, tgerhof. at the swing park in T'hof (triangular in shape) we turn right and them immediately right again, then left and follow the rd round till Koeberg rd. we ride down K'berg road till p island the 2nd left rd takes you all the way to the power station. at this time of the morning traffic is very light. the route is very twisty and turny but with little traffic and traffic lights. even the left lane on koeberg is relatively wide and well lit.
  18. the City CC club rode down to St'bosch via Botelary and returned via Bev Hills and Kromme Rhee. i didn't ride but i sent them off with the warning that they must ride as a group past Kayamandi becos it is a mugging hotspot. i still said "they are waiting for you" don't take a chance. the group left at 7.00am from Edgemead and must of been riding past that area at the about 8.30am. it is so important to ride in a group - we even allow other club's members to ride with us (and in their kit). i would rather have cyclists safe than sorry.
  19. children up to the age of 15 should not be introduced to a structured training program. pm me if you want a suggested training article i have for young cyclists.
  20. we resumed our rides again this morning but have decided just to ride on a Tuesday & Thursday only. this morning was quite misty on our way down to Perde Eiland but then it cleared nicely along the sea towards M'ton, T'view and Big Bay. the cycle path was empty - did not see 1 cyclist, just a few runners training for 2 oceans. surprising the amount of traffic on the road from 6.00am. got back to Edgemead at 6.30
  21. why ????https://cdn.bikehub.co.za/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
  22. any team (maybe discount the windies) should have won from the position they were in. when Kallis went out (what was he thinking when he played that shot)it was still less than 1 run a ball. it should have been a doddle for the batsmen that we have. even going into the last 5 overs chasing 8 an over is doable by any team that has made it to the quarters. listening to pollack the day before, he said NZ must play out of their skin to win , like hell, they just played their normal game, didn't panic, posted a score and we did the rest.
  23. i thought the live broadcast was bad , but the highlingts package takes the cake.
  24. D group in the Argus nowadays translates to the about J / K group from the old days before they started introducing licensed age categories. i rode C group years ago and then started riding the Argus on a tandem with my son. We have progressed from finishing in the 15 000's for our first Argus to the 6 000's in just 4 years. i don't miss the mayhem of 400 wheelsuckers all fighting for that sweetspot but i have a dilemma, next year my son wants to ride on his own bike. i wont even suggest that we ride in the same group because he kicks my arse on the hills big time. its going to interesting to see where the cycletour seed us as individuals. this year we started in M and finished in 3.40
  25. my 2 cents - a lot of people can ride a bike real fast but not many know how to cycle. too many of the participants in the ACT over react to cateyes, drain covers, lost water bottles etc etc. i always say don't dodge the thing all you have to do is just miss it and that means very little sideways movement.
