  1. In my back yard, but having seen portions of the trail being prepared, I'm left wondering - how does one even ride some of those sections (pick up sticks comes to mind)??! Will definitely be spectating though!
  2. Miss the PPA and Racetec involvement...
  3. Will there be late entries available on the day?
  4. Did the event twice in its earlier years and loved it. Unfortunately clashes with the Slanghoek Triathlon...
  5. I see what you did there...
  6. Although the fee is quite steep, it compares well with other events of similar scale and attraction: Comrades Marathon ENTRY FEES: • Early Bird Entries : R 460.00 • Local Entries : R 500.00 • International : R3300.00 Two Oceans Marathon: Entry Fee: South African Entrants Runners who own a timing chip R 460 * Runners who do not own a timing chip R 580 I know this has been debated to death, but I don't think we always realise just how much organising / logistics is involved with an event of this scale. Furthermore, profit from this event goes to the Rotary, who is heavily dependent on this income for the work they do. For me, the entry fee is steep, but worth it (provided the event actually happens!). I do appreciate that it all adds up for the out-of-towners who have to pay for accommodation and travel and and and, though...
  7. Thanks Bolla - appreciated!
  8. Anybody have any useful info on the 65km? Seems that the website has the same description for the 45km and 65km...so not really helpful.
  9. Got this from the organisers: the 45km has 518m elevation and the 65km has 855m elevation.
  10. Just a question: were any of the fires (yesterday's, or today's in Houtbay) deliberately ostarted? If so, I'll bet that there will be more fires next year, and at Oceans time...
  11. Agree 100% - the starting funnel must be the windiest spot in Cape Town, if not in the Province when the southeaster is at it. Surely moving the start chutes elsewhere (yes I know, not as simple as it sounds), will provide a solution to the havoc at the start on windy days? I'm sure this must have been debated before: but what are the reasons that the Cycle Tour cannot follow the route in reverse? Impact of longer road closures on M3 etc perhaps? It would resolve the gusty start, and provide some nice tailwinds in the latter half of the race...
  12. And now the peeps that travelled in from the Southern 'burbs can't get home as roads are closed...
  13. Imo - wind def no worse than in 2009, matches about 2010 conditions... Methinks the protests maybe a greater threat than let on? Glad I'm not th one that had to make the call though...
  14. Did that one, and after almost being blown over coming DOWN Chappies, promised myself I'll never do it again in such windy conditions... But here I am, ready to line up for no. 10... At what point will I make the call whether I'll ride or not? Probably around Simon's Town, by which time it will be too late to turn back...
  15. Also loved the ride - pity that there's no semblance of seeding whatsoever (this also being the main reason I prefer PPA / racetec events over Dirtopia / AMArider events any day). Saturday evening's wine was still in the system, so grateful for the late'ish start! Probably the closest possible event to home, so will be back next year!
  16. There are three events happening this weekend which are all currently options for me - I need to decide and enter a.s.a.p. and was hoping to do this one, but will have to enter one of the others if no route profiles are available to help me decide.
  17. No route profiles yet?
  18. Also have a few questions on this - the 27km female winner's name also on 63km DNF list? Or are there two of them with the same name? 2 x Amanda Simpson on 63km DNF list... Had an incident where our route was wrongly directed (about 2/3 kms into the race), and don't think it was handled brilliantly (with half the field being asked to re-route back while the others were already speeding onward), which left a bit of a sour taste... Other than that, the route was excellent (and tough), will surely be back.
  19. Route profiles would be appreciated - not on iquela website either (only route maps).
  20. The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_DetailTrackerEntries_DetailTrackerPeople1". The conflict occurred in database "Eventi", table "dbo.DetailTrackerPerson", column 'DetailTrackerPersonID'. The statement has been terminated. Same here...is it too much to ask for just one year's plain sailing with the entry process? Could someone please calculate how much working / productive time is wasted every year in trying to enter? ;-)
  21. Attended this race 2 years ago and promised myself I wouldn't bother again... But as we were going to be in the region this weekend, I gave it another go. The routes are awesome - unfortunately, the organising, and more specifically the entry and timing process, kills it all for me. It is simply unacceptable to have an entry process where you enter online the previous day, and then not have a number allocated and have to stand in the queue for on the day entries. It is unacceptable to have to be asked whether you have already paid or not - do you have no record of payments made?? It is unacceptable for entrants to the 60km route to still have to be in a queue to enter / register at 8am when they are supposed to start already. So despite the great routes and great initiative, I won't be coming again until such time PPA and racetec get involved. I do hope these issues can be sorted out, as the event combined with the Patatfees has so much potential.
  22. Have a pair of mens MTB shoes in my boot - if you know of anyone who kicked off their dirty shoes under the car, forgot about it and drove off, please PM me - will also let the organisers know. Lovely ride (except for the first 5k's or so where I kept running out of granny gears...). Oh and except half of Lourensford's soil that is now clinging to all my moving bits...
  23. Cannot get the Groupon purchase to complete - says there is a 'problem submitting your purchase'. Seems that the deal has now been withdrawn, although the time available still showed plenty... If I'm going to fork out R200 for this race (for which many others paid R99), I would at least like to see a rout map / profile?? Can anybody point me in the right direction for this? Edit: managed to get Groupon purchased - whoohoo! Now...how much climbing did you say there was?
  24. So I entered this event (seeing as I missed the boat for the Paul Cluver race on the same day...) - what a pleasant experience! I will seriously recommend MTB orienteering, especially: - if you love riding in places you wouldn't normally get to ride in - if you love riding where it is totally uncrowded!!! - if you like the added challenge of having to navigate and figuring out best route options The guys are trying hard to get MTB'ers involved - only 6/7 of us at Sunday's event, with many runners (but not on same course). Two things I'd recommend for those considering trying this out next time: - fix a little clip-board of some sort on your handlebars, preferably with a plastic sheet to put the map in...my back pocket and memory was just not quite up to the task! - riding with a partner would make both the navigating and stopping at the markers easier...
  25. http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/stellenbosch/urgent-scott-mtb-bargain/1001179182750910338598109 don't know if you want to check out this ad on gumtree - anyone spec'ing a 'top of the range MTB with front and rear disc breaks and shocks' sounds a litlle suspicious... No pics on the ad though, but may be worth a try? I'm also quite keen to have a look / know what make and model it is, as both my Scott Scale 940's that got stolen earlier this year are still missing...
