  1. J seeding for the 42... - I'm definitely no race snake so may be a bit out of my depth here... Did the 42 last year with a K seeding and managed a rather average time - who knows how they get to these seedings??! I'm with Wannabe on the doing-my-best-and-soaking-up-the-view-and-vibe thing (and b.t.w. also wished we had a clear view on the Bastille!)
  2. Thanks Matchstix, visited on Saturday morning (as I've had two bikes stolen earlier this year), but just note that they're only open mon - fri 8am to 4pm...not sure what us mere working mortals can do to arrange to view, but will phone on monday... Strange though that they know when the robberies took place, yet seem unable to match bikes with owners? Do people not describe their bikes when they report the theft, or do they simply not report? Or can't the cops be bothered to look through the reports?
  3. May have a spot for a bike and bum - will be leaving from Boston so could pick up at N1 Engen or somewhere along? R120 should help cover petrol and tolls -PM me if interested...
  4. I may just as well copy and paste my previous post... Scott Scale 940, 2013 model, medium frame, black with blue, stolen in week before the Argus. Insurance pulled all the stops and got me onto a new bike (managed to get the very last 2013 medium around) in time for the Argus. Last Thursday, said bike (inside house and locked to Thule rack) neatly stolen - again!!!!! Somewhere someone has a set-off point for all these stolen bikes...I reckon if we managed to trace a few of them, we'll find where they're all going... In the meantime, I'm seriously fed-up (and probably bikeless as the insurance may not necessarily pay oit again...) Please keep an eye out, folks...
  5. www.alltheevents.co.za lists MTB, road, running, tri etc. events - I find their list to be the most comprehensive and user-friendly (can search by type / month / region etc) with links to event details. @ Sywurm, event on 20th (Easter Sunday) at Solms Delta in Franschhoek.
  6. My house was burgled today, my 29'er Scott Scale 940 2013 (two months old, black and blue) stolen from behind the security gates of my front porch. Guess no Argus for me now... Would appreciate it if people could keep an eye out on websites or the like - bike had slicks put on (I know - don't start), and has a non-matching female friendly saddle. Stolen from Boston, Bellville
  7. Thanks guys - appreciated! If anybody knows of an even cheaper option, I'd be happy to listen - I'll probably only wear them for the Argus, and have still got two sets of 26" slicks sitting about at home...
  8. At the risk of opening the whole why-would-any-MTB'er-even-consider-putting-on-slicks debate again, I'd like to get some advice on where in Cape Town to get some el cheapo slicks for my 29'er? Specifics would be appreciated ('just put on any road tyre, it should fit, get it at your LBS' all too vague for me...) Have just entered the Argus as an afterthought (have done it numerous times on my 26'er with slicks), but am not going to be doing it in knobbies...
  9. Had a fantastic ride - most awesome views and just had to stop at those well-stocked and well-placed water tables! Great marshaling and route signage too. Anybody know if any results will be posted, and where?
  10. according to entrytime results will be on their website today...I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I miss the organisation from PPA / Racetec, who would have already had the results up by Saturday evening... lovely ride, though...

  12. Thanks AZ - saw those profile pics, but not much use without knowing what the figures say! I emailed the organisers, who sent me another copy of those pics...still illegible, though, so nobody knows how much climbing's involved... I wish somebody would tell the organisers of all these events that the route map is not worth much to a MTB'er (as the routes are mostly in areas not normally open for riding), but that we reeeaaaallly want to have a look at those profiles before committing to something you should maybe not have attempted (weekend warriors like myself).
  13. anybody have route profiles for the 30km and 60km MTB routes where the ascent is actually visible? thinking of doing the longer route for a change (otherwise do the short and short road on Sunday), but wanna make sure I'll be up for it...

    Karoo to Coast

weathersa's 15 day forecast shows a NE wind of 51km/h for race day - let's hope the forecast changes (as it usually does)! NE wind conceivably better than a southerly wind, though...

4th group - my first K2C so I'm happy! been down with flu all week and only starting to recover now...hope the muscle memory kicks in!
  16. agree with all of the above - was a super new route, with great weather, great prizes (I managed a 3rd lady in the 35km - woohoo! a first for me!), great organising, and rideable (albeit a bit muddy and technical in places) throughout. my only gripe (as with too many of these events) is why they can't advertise a 40km route as such - why call it a 35km if it is actually 40km? if I had known this beforehand (although the route profile should have given me an inkling), I may have opted for the not-so-much-further 55km...next time!
  17. was wondering the same thing - bit closer to home than swellendam!
  18. did the 40km - a lovely route with lots of variety, fantastic views, and enough challenges (especially with the mud!). thought the event was well-organised, especially being a first. a few suggestions for improvement: would be nice to know exactly how long the routes are beforehand - the 40km turned out to be 44km, and the last 4km's were a slog. I know there were some last-minute changes to the routes as a result of the weather, but it would still be nice to know the exact route distance. (told a guy whose chain broke that it was only 2km to the end...turned out to be 6km - I'm sure he didn't appreciate that). lucky draw advertised as taking place at 3pm, but took place earlier. some people hung about in town and returned at 3pm, just to find it all over... scheduling it for earlier would be sensible, as the lag after finishing is too much - but don't change scheduled times on the day! just some constructive criticism...but I'll definitely be back next year (hopefully doing the 70km...as long as its not 77km!)
  19. @LJDB, whereabouts are you based? Still need to get through the cumbersome online entering process, but may want to share a ride, as I'm also going solo...
