  2. Please tell me that's a halloween costume...
  3. Proud (albeit somewhat sheepish) Bok supporter!
  4. Was a well attended event even over two days, which gave moms and dads the chance to ride shorter routes with the family on one day, and longer routes the next... Changed to one day event (and we were told this might only be temporary), and now possibly off the cards altogether? Would be a real shame...
  5. Apologies for the semi- hijack, but also got 'approached' on Saturday in Stellenbosch - on MTB, coming down the contour path just above the hangbrug. We were cycling and had the dog with us, I turned around at the dam to get a few extra kms in. Were commenting on how busy it was...around 10:30am. Next thing I know, a guy (looked like he was on tik or something) was standing next to the big pine trees at the T, with rocks in both hands, already holding another MTB'er ransom. My only option was to try and fly past, as even someone walking at a leisurely pace would probably catch me going uphill. He launched a rock at me (luckily this gave the other guy a chance to make a run for it). Luckily he only hit my rear wheel, severing a spoke or two. This serves as a wake-up call for me, as I regularly ride this route, either alone, with the hound, or with friends. Had there been more of them, it may have been a different story. But I think what p*sses me off most, is that I'm expected to be grateful to have gotten off without any injury or worse...how can we ever make spaces safe to ride in again???
  6. I'm with Roux on the flats...but that's a topic for another thread (oh wait, deja vu!). For me, the ability to instantly get off far outweighs the benefits of being clipped in - but saying that, I'm not gunning for podium. Too many of my friends have scars and bruises from falls purely resulting from not being able to clip out in time - just because they've been taught that real MTB'ers should always ride clipped in... Anyway, see you on the short one (25km) on Saturday. I'll be riding flats. Anyone know if that route goes along the concrete section up by the mast?

    Rugby...

While I'm backing the Boks all the way, I also think it won't be a big winning margin...we need to take this team (and the home crowd advantage) very very seriously.
  8. very chuffed with myself for managing to ride the entire hike-a-bike-hill, though!
  9. Also dropped down to ride the 12km with a friend - but that is seriously not a kid / beginner friendly route...to the point that it is downright dangerous, specifically on the downhill bits. Saw quite a few kids wipeout on the downhill, and others had to walk down, as there were no clean lines to ride. There was also no marshall where the longer routes merged at the last downhill coming back into Overgaauw - an accident waiting to happen. If the 12km route was extended by another 8km, it could make a nice 20km route for riders with some experience, while a 10km flatter route could cater well for families. I'll be back next year though (hopefully for a longer ride again!).
  10. Would be useful to add if any of these options are pet-friendly as well...thanks is advance!
  11. I'll have to let mine grow then, it seems...
  12. I used to use Nexguard and Bravecto, as the goldy is in and out of water daily, so I needed something that could be ingested (rather than applied). It seemed to do the trick in terms of protection (although I'm not sure about possible long-term effects). However, contrary to what apparently everybody else experiences, my hound HATES it, and it is always a battle getting it down. Mentioned this to the vet-shop the previous time, and they suggested that I give Simparica a try. Dog loved it, and according to Google, it may even have advantages over Nexguard and Bravecto...
  13. I reckon a quick dip in the dam while crossing the floating bridge will wash them off... Edit: was meant to be in response to Rudii's post...
  14. Its not only Bottelary or Meerendal - seems that tick season is particularly bad this year (also according to vets). I took the hound up G-spot the week before last, and before coming down, spotted a tick...and proceeded to take 12 ticks off there and then! Bombed down, took the hound home, where we took another 8 ticks off her, and one off the top of my sock...who knows how many disembarked in the car... Tick bite fever is nasty for humans, but can very quickly be fatal for hounds...so please please please ensure that their protection is up to date!
  15. I've read quite a few reviews where people bought (or were sold) the 935 covers, and they don't fit 100% because of differences in the beveling or whatever - so will rather be going for a proper 945 protector. Easybike will be getting some next week.
  16. Watched the Netflix documentary last night...OMW.
  17. Anyone know where in ZA I can get a screen protector for the 945 (not for the 935 - they're NOT exactly the same size)?
  18. Where did you get the FR 945? Been waiting for its release...
  19. Thanks for that link. Makes me question everything I'm doing...yoh, would it not be wonderful to do this for a living! They say the hallmark of a really great picture is if you cannot help but go 'I wish I had taken that!'. With one obvious exception, these pics all make me feel that way!
  20. Also trying to find out re on the day entries - messages on fb got me nowhere thus far...
  21. Still have a 27km entry up for grabs (for free - you just need to arrange the substitution). PM me if interested.
  22. Entered the 27km but unable to make it as I'll be out of the country - sorry to miss out as this is truly the one event worth doing... Willing to donate my entry to anyone that's willing to bring back my earlybird T-shirt! PM me if interested.
