  1. My first car was one of these, called Smokey. I bought her 3rd hand or so already. Sy't water, olie en petrol gebruik - in daai volgorde...
  2. Thanks babse. What time do they kick off tomorrow?
  3. I'm driving up the N2 tomorrow am from Stellenbosch over Houwhoek - any easily accessible spectator viewing points that I may be able to access en route? I see they start and finish at Oak Valley tomorrow - maybe Paul Cluver an option?
  4. Anybody know whether the Exxaro/PWC1 team had a mechanical today?
  5. Anyone else been lucky enough to spot a real one? Just wondering how common it is:
  6. Does this mean my 'Epic fantasy league' results will be updated accordingly?
  7. I feel for you. As HdB said, the seven hours cut-off is a stated rule - BUT the race organisers have flexibility to push it out... It seems as though the cut-off time was raised to 8:00 in 2009 (looking at Racetec). Perhaps they will still make some allowance for the wind and rain? Edit: 2010 seems to have been pushed out to 7:30 - this year's wind was (to my mind) quite similar. Perhaps a case to be made?
  8. My OCD just wants to close that gap where the Jh/Js/Ju bunches sits, and see the full picture of the tornado leaning towards the right...
  9. My dot is sadly one of the outliers to the right - I can see exactly which one! Irony is, I would probably have done a better time, had I dropped back a good 10-15 start groups or so - as it was, I cycled solo all the way and was already knackered getting into Simon's Town... Was seeded way out of my league (and no, I did not cheat, but got a outlier seeding based on an MTB event...)
  10. I think they were the groups that pulled the buggies...
  11. A beaut like that, who cares about the parts? Anyways, if you ever consider giving it away (seeing as it was a prize), I'll gladly take her...
  12. The route seems to still follow quite a bit of the rivercourse, and this is the part that was very sandy - could the organisers possibly confirm? Also not in the mood for a slog through sand, but have supported this event in the past. I somehow always feel better about an event where the PPA IS involved - will racetec at least be doing the timing?
  13. Just curious - any prize / award for the first female in over the full course? See she did a 3:09.
  14. And yet some of them managed to come in well under 4 hours...respect!
  15. I started in 2F. Before hospital bend, a Ryan from 3E and another rider with 3F on his back, passed me. How did they get into 2F or 2G starting pens??? Also saw a 'Sharon' with a beard and beenhare. And countless riders wearing earphones - are they just plain stupid? Agree that checking should be more strict - if people see that others are getting away with it, next year more people will try their luck.
  16. For you, maybe. The real heroes today were the backenders that braved the wind despite perhaps not being fit enough. The McGregor development riders riding with single speed MTBs and finishing - not in 4 hours. The guys towing buggies. The first-timers. The dad and his young daughter / son on the back of a tandem. The ouballie doing his 30th and struggling up Suikerbossie.
  17. I found it quite useful in the past, as they seem to account for variances in speed over different sectors - but then again, I'm in the cruising end of the field, so maybe that makes a difference!
  18. anyone got a link to the 'split time calculator'? Edit - found it on their website.
  19. All this talk about headwind out and tailwind back - I cycled the 2009 event, and the only thing that kept me going to Simon's Town was the thought that the wind would surely be at our backs once we're over Smits...except it wasn't...
  20. Anybody know if the Magnificent Seven are all riding this year?
  21. Seems if your name starts with an 'M', you are more prone to going viral for all the wrong reasons... First we had Maryna, of 'lekker, man, lekker' faam... Then of course it was Margaret who put Schweizer Reneke on the map... And now Marelize. Priceless.
  22. Wondering whether it's only the pitches - very few test matches anywhere going to five days of late... I reckon the bowlers are becoming more aggressive / getting more used to shorter formats, and that the batsmen are also much more in the shorter version mindset... Should be all over by lunchtime tomorrow...
