  1. 173km for me... was actually going better than usual, but not run in the last 3 weeks due to a bit of an injury which was immediately followed by some dreaded bug from one of my beloved littlies... and antibiotics I'm going to do a jog later - I think I have finally kicked this bug So I'm sitting with a Vaal entry for Sunday and a rapidly pending OMTOM qualifying deadline on the 18th. The other two weekends are Argus and Om die Dam... So, slog out Vaal, pray it all stays together somehow (it's my favorite race after all) and get my qualifying out the way? Do Vaal half, get in some good training thereafter and somehow hope I qualify at Om die Dam? I don't like the idea of having to step straight up to an ultra without a marathon... and having the added pressure of my OMTOM riding on it... Mattie, this is the fun you are missing out on
  2. You forgot the comic sans. Carpet also saw what a mess I was at PnP when things do go wrong There is plenty sensible about running it next year Mattie, but just don't find reasons not to run this beautiful race. It's a race for me that you look for the reasons to run - less the reasons not to. But that is silly old me - you know yourself better than anyone else, you know how you are feeling and whatever you decide that is ultimately the right call. Just make sure you're on that start line one day, trust me, you'll never regret it
  3. Erm... if it was you Swiss... you'd never ever run it because you'd put it off forever. Just saying Mattie, if you keep pushing on and do two longer runs before Comrades, you'll be fine. The next two months are crucial I find. You keep going though you'll finish comfy enough You also know the dumbass that is giving this advice (me), so I'm the other side of the Swiss spectrum. Like Barry says though, if you want it, go get it - you will be fine
  4. Or we win and it's back to a nice comfy 7 point gap without the distraction of this 'title chase' we were barely really ever in Funny old game... we weren't actually all that bad yesterday bar two super soft goals - the first was equally poor from Alderweireld and Lloris, and the second was again Lloris with Trippier - Lloris is having a terrible season. Won't even begin to read to much into anything, because it all changes again on Saturday. We do need a reaction though... not much better games to do that in. Real in a spot of poo too... and they've got Barca again this weekend - could get messi fast
  5. Yeah, City pretty obvious favorites now... especially as they have been down this road before. The pressure is only going to crank up in Merseyside, and like Spurs, I'm not confident they will handle it well. But who knows... still lots of points on the table and anything can change at the drop of a hat. Firmino is a big loss for Liverpool. But all the big teams have been hit by injury at some point or another. It's how you manage it all...
  6. Exactly... felt the same about my Spurs, we were playing some bang average football, but still keeping up, so I kind of hoped for them to step it up a few gears and maybe be in a shout... but low and behold we managed to find an even lower gear Two massive London derbies in the next four days, we need 6 points, going to be a tough ask.
  7. It's a very silly program for a particularly stupid person and it's just not much fun if I'm honest... I really wish I could sort my running out, but there is one key consistent thing in the way - me and my life. Working on fixing that, but at the same time thinking I need to re-access what I am doing and why? Something is just not adding up. After my marathon disaster two weeks ago where I stuffed up my knees a bit, I'm on to the next mess which involves me and a course of anti-biotics... praying I can still run something resembling a decent Vaal marathon. Have Argus the weekend after, Om die Dam the week after that... it's getting very messy and fast. So, basically, do the opposite of what I do and you should be golden
  8. They've also never lost a home European tie in Simeone's history... out of 16 odd games, with 13 wins I think. Impressive from City to come back from a goal down and a man down away from home to win. They're starting to look like the real deal. I'm just surprised that they're still playing Otamendi though - he's just not a consistent player at all... always gives teams a chance
  9. I don't like these Cowboy snake catchers... it was just trying to get away. They always just want to get away... and of course they get aggressive once they feel they are fighting for their survival... These poephols give snakes a bad name and create fear. Totally the opposite of what they should be doing.
  10. You guys see this story? Lots of street cred for the trail runners https://denver.cbslocal.com/2019/02/14/travis-kauffman-mountain-lion-attacked-killed-colorado-fort-collins/
  11. It would be awesome... certainly don't see it as likely though, but I guess you do just never know! We have finished the last few seasons very strongly and obviously with Kane and Alli heading back towards fitness there are definite positives to look at. Would be one for the books if we somehow pulled it off, might even get some people to rethink the transfer market. You do often see players beings bought for the sake of it - but Poch has always been very clear, unless the player makes us better, we're not interested. And beyond that, the real challenge lies in getting in players who fit that criteria, at a reasonable transfer fee and at half the salary they could potentially make at our opposition clubs. 4 pivotal games left for us, win them all we'll definitely be in the reckoning. Even draws at the top two would be okay... Liverpool away City away Chelsea away Arsenal home Still plenty points to play for, and every games a potential banana skin in the Prem At least this years title race is looking like it will go down to the wire
  12. Only thing to be careful with, a lot of the reviews can be from Europe/US/Canada etc which is sometimes very different to our running conditions when it comes to trail... So shoes that are great in the mud over there, might suck for most conditions this side. That's why getting local advice from someone like Dave etc is always a winner. But yeah, all the info is on there if you look for it, it's a great and thorough sight with endless input to sift through - just need to watch out for things won't translate to real value here in SA
  13. It's amazing what can happen in a couple of weeks in football...
  14. Thanks for the support guys... like I said, more just my own stupidity. Lesson learnt... just need to make sure it's just a minor setback. Knees feeling better already after some good stretch sessions, Pirates should be a solid test.
  15. Well done Carpet, you looked pretty strong and fresh out there! And thanks for keeping Kim company, always helps a little to tick when ticking off the kilometers
  16. Ugly stuff, I'm actually really irritated with myself... I only was doing Jeppe as a step up in distance with the aim of being ready for a decent Vaal in 3 weeks time. So I actually was supposed to do an easy gentle 4:40/50 odd time, as I've done nothing longer than 21km this year. But low and behold, this poephol went through half way on a pretty tough course in 2:03... needless to say around 27km's odd I started to feel a bit of knee pain which was beginning to slow me down, and then at 30km's I had a double calf cramp explosion. Tried everything under the sun to try rid myself of them, but just could not, even walking was a painful struggle. Hobbled along until 37 odd kilometers (took me over an hour and a half these glorious 7kms), watched my wife and Carpet march off into the distance along with many a club mate. My calves just wouldn't cooperate. Sitting on the pavement at 37kays, fighting my latest sniper attack, some guy appeared offering up an Uber lifeline... and I took the bait. Struggling along for another hour plus, achieving little apart from possible further injury I would have to wear that DNF tag for the 3rd time in my life. Like I said, more irritated with myself than anything... such a stupid rookie mistake. And all I've got to show for it is a big fat DNF and some unwanted knee pain. Anyways, Pirates 21km helpers run this weekend, and hopefully some more regular running in the lead up to Vaal. As always, it looks like I am playing catch up
  17. Saw that and following the Facebook page... will definitely try get down to a few. Their foods awesome too... and of course, Beer. All the beer
  18. Ja, I'm building up as a runner very slowly... hoping to peak at around 70yrs old
  19. Thanks, appreciated - will go check it out
  20. Looking for a good value for money large white back drop or ideas for a DIY version... need it mainly for large scale product shots etc - would want a surface around 3 meters wide by 2 and a bit high... Any ideas or experience with this?
  21. Yip, resale worth keeping in mind as well... with Garmin dominating the market their products will generally be better known and in demand. There's nothing wrong with Suunto or Polar at all, but it's just a public mentality based on the companies various offerings. The Fenix 3 I think blew the other two out the window at the time and they've been playing catch up since.
  22. Don't know a lot about this specific model - but it looks a pretty good deal https://www.buycycle.co.za/mountain-bike/suunto-spartan-trainer-wrist-hr/
  23. People keep writing us off... kind of suits us. Pretty much the most consistent team in the top flight in the last 5yrs... having spent pretty much nothing and having played away from home for the last two seasons. But hey, despite being injury ravaged currently, we're in touching distance of the mighty Man City, with 50 million dollar players and backups for every position, and led by the untouchable Pep. But hey... people still want to look at us and point fingers. We're doing okay I reckon. We'll be okay I reckon
  24. Wishing you all the best with the road ahead Cois! She's a scary beast, and we all fear her, but she certainly can be beaten. Stay positive, stay strong and you'll be back on that bike again!
