  1. I moved over to Discovery banking late last year and they did not "move" a thing. I had to do it all with the individual companies. This in itself was fascinating, Afrihost you just do it on the app, instant. One of the others, it was like a 3 day process with multiple documents. Not something I want to do again for another few years
  2. There is an interview on The Race's podcast with Danilo Petrucci. What an amazing guy, also gives some insight to just how well he actually did and how tough the Dakar is.
  3. I was recently looking at trading my car in and at least 2 dealerships told me at the time that the whole "book/trade value" thing has fallen flat a few years ago with companies like WBC's who underpay relatively speaking. Its skewed the car market badly but that is a different thread altogether. Strange situation but understandable or at least I understand a bit more. It still seems like a crazy situation. So the insurers see it more as a fixed non depreciating asset then, bundling it into electronics, jewelry, etc. Good luck to them, it will change very soon when they start forking out R100k claims for R20k bikes bought in 2015 based on current bike prices. Suppose that is why bicycle insurance is so expensive, future proofing.
  4. So my understanding is that they will pay market related prices and not a new bikes price. So even if you up it to R120k, they may do their due diligence and pay out only what the bike is actually worth. So as an example, a 2013 VW Polo was bought for R200k and is currently valued at say R80k. You up the replacement value to R400k because that is what a new Polo costs. At claim time you will get the R80k less excesses. So essentially you inflate you premiums for no gain, people would do this all the time then to game the system. Insure a R80k vehicle for R400k and then have an "accident" and sit pretty afterwards...... How are bicycles different in the above scenario? Yes new prices went up and yes they command a higher price of the used market (perhaps) as they represent more bang for buck compared to new bikes now, but that hasn't made the R72k bicycle suddenly worth R120k surely. I am genuinely asking to know, I understand this is replacement value, not being argumentative.
  5. *** funny......
  6. Same can be said for anything cycling related these days......
  7. Maintenance plan is probably a good idea given how many bikes probably get financed these days. Wild assumption but with very average e-bikes hitting the R100k it is a fairly assumption I think.
  8. A thinner slurry to start off with and then adding the concrete and reinforcing would help but you would probably need to somehow make a vibrating setup, to help settle into those pockets. Curious to know why you went with the concrete over the before mentioned concreete? Jokes aside, that really looks good, well done.
  9. You could definitely dispute, and i would if I was you just don't be too hopeful. A couple of years ago I disputed the fact that SARS did not believe ambulance service expenses were medical related, go figure. Gave up after a few months, writing was on the wall......
  10. Absolute beaut, what did that set you back btw?
  11. Pre gearbox mounting pics I see😉 Looking good.
  12. Thanks for the help, I suppose the part that confuses me is that is appears you could get a device and some gear. It seems from all the replies this is not the case, it is either/or, then wait 12 months for the next opportunity to buy. See screenshot, the lower options has the first 2 blocks showing a device + gear/shoes.
  13. Hi All, so I have met all the requirements to take advantage of the Vitality active rewards and am looking at a new watch. Nothing flashy, a Vivoactive 4. So if I understand the process correctly I activate the voucher. I then get R4000 towards a device (the watch) and then R2000 to spent of Nike gear, if I so wish. Whatever allotment of that R6000 is not spent falls away. I have 60% upfront discount so that is then R2400 discount, balance to be paid by me. Same will go for the gear if I choose to take it? Am I understanding it correctly?
  14. He is used to bending the knee, why not do so to the establishment.......

  16. Agree with the above, Cones for me. The SC goes against the retro look completely!!
  17. Agreed, unless it is insured under all risk or "out and about" it will only be covered if stolen from your home. So mugging, off your car, etc, no cover. At least that is how I have been advised by my broker. Under all risk my bike is insured for R85k and costs R274.14. Excess is 10% of claim, minimum of R100.
  18. I am on Vitality with only the banking suite, only joined the banking last month. So a bit early to really comment more but the rewards have already increased over just having the Vitality. I have looked into joining the medical aid and their short term insurance but the benefits of doing so are still still less than the saving I have over my current providers.
  19. That is good to know, got a flat on my front wheel a few weeks ago and while patching the tube was wondering whether it could be converted. Will definitely look into it now.
  20. Mine does not have the "TCS" as depicted in the pictures online though, that's why I am curious.
  21. And it held? I am used to seeing some branding on the tyre to at least say tubeless ready. If not they tend to leak through the sidewalls.
  22. My condolences Reinet. Nothing I can say will make the pain better, been there myself. Was in your place before, will be 5yrs in Jan since my wife passed in a hospice too. Give yourself time. Only met Francois once but chatted with him from time to time. He was an incredible human being. Inspiring and always on my mind.
