  1. The guy who perpetually posts photos of cyclists on the M5 and jumping T-junction red lights is a dick. Fact. Not just any guy. But one particular guy. Breaks the law by taking a photo while driving in order to chastise someone else breaking the law. How is that not dickish? Even discounting his personality. I am neither militant nor aggressive. Unless you hoot at me aggressively when I am riding my bike within the law. But I am opinionated. That is unlikely to change.
  2. Some things never change. idiot without helmet thread from 2014
  3. That's why the good guys use that Impact-X lens.
  4. Here, go buy a helmet to give to a commuter.
  5. And that gives you the right to lecture me if we pass each other riding?
  6. Those who wear helmets wear helmets. Those who don't don't. The issue is with all the guys who think they have the right to challenge those that don't. Like the dick who posts photos of guys riding in the yellow line on the M5. Or jumping a T-Juntion red. Worry about yourself. Not others, What they do does not affect you. And I don't need some halfwit telling me I jumped a red light because it's red on his side but not mine.
  7. We are obliged to obey all laws, whether or not we agree with them. My point is I have no business telling someone else what to do. Worry about yourself being a law abiding citizen and set an example. If you want to enforce laws join the law enforcement system. God knows they need all the help they can get. Bringing the debate back to safety. I'm only going to need a helmet to protect me if I have an off. I'm only likely to have an off on a gentle pedal to the shops or for coffee if I get hit by a motorist. If I'm riding hard in a bunch I'll wear a helmet as others may cause my off. So I campaign for better protection for cyclists from motorists, not victim blaming in forcing cyclists to do all sorts of crazy stuff to protect them from themselves. Disclaimer: I would never ride single track without a helmet.
  8. The anonymous pharmacist who provided a statement, was never cross examined and did not appear in person? Nothing happened to him as he was never named. SAIDS accepted the version of how the drugs got there as they had stuffed the whole testing procedure to the max. Some would say he never existed. But they are only sceptics who are sick of dopers and their lies.
  9. Another cyclist wearing or not wearing a helmet has nothing to do with me. Or anyone else. It's a personal choice that does not affect me or any other cyclist. Or motorist. There have been many conflicting studies on the benefits of wearing a helmet in the event of an accident which is why they are not required by law in many countries. There is even a study that found motorists drive closer to cyclists who wear helmets than they do to those who don't. As Dennis Lillee said when Tony Greig first wore a helmet when going in to bat: "It gives me something to aim at." Even in the pro peloton where helmets are now compulsory there have been as many deaths since they were made compulsory as in the preceding period. I only wear a helmet because it is a legal requirement in SA and I don't want to give my life insurer any wriggle room in the event of my death while riding a bike. I don't feel any safer because I have a helmet on my head. So mind your own business when you see a guy enjoying the breeze through his hair.
  10. http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/lamar-odom-blood-results-test-6710769 Very amusing story. Like most dopers excuses...
  11. The best bit of all these ADRVs is how the guilty party's mates all jump in with messages of support. Definitely convinces me the offender is a stand up character and there has been some humungas cock up by someone other than a cheating athlete. Of course in the dodgy affidavit by the unnamed pharmacist's case, all the pros rushed to congratulate the doper when he got off. Strange behaviour supporting a doper unless of course you are doing it yourself. Why are they not outraged?
  12. Parkrun? Moi? Don't be daft. Running is for people who can't ride.
  13. I find this interesting as in my experience of the "minor" stage races the medics have very little leeway to dispense actual drugs. Mostly it's strapping and creams on wounds. When I tried get an anti-inflammatory for a sprained wrist at W2W a few years back it was a no go from the medical tent. In any event a pro is responsible for knowing what he is taking. The shifting of blame only works if you can find a pharmacist who is happy to provide a BS affidavit about a previous customer.
  14. Points not yet allocated for Garmin activities from 1st. Let's hope it's not the start of issues again.
  15. Very clever. I thought of the bottom hole for inflation but decided to stick without making holes in the bottle. And the ballache of lining up the valve from inside the bottle with the hole.
  16. Experimenting on first few rides shows 100psi at rear and 90psi in front seems best. Of course the advantage of tubeless come in hitting catseyes and not snakebiting. And being able to ride at 70psi but that is too low to start a race. I'm comfortable to race tubeless tyres on proper tubeless rims on the tandem after messing around with tubeless tyres for past 4 years on all sorts of rims on my road bike.
  17. Seriously good buy that.
  18. Wheels for my tandem. 55mm 36 hole laced with Sapim CX-Ray and brass nipples to the original DT Swiss tandem hubs. Schwalbe Pro One tubeless mounted with American Classic 25mm tubeless tape and Geax liquid. 80mm valve removable core stems with anti rattle.
  19. 2lt plastic bottles are said to fail at 150 psi. http://education.seattlepi.com/much-pressure-can-two-liter-bottle-handle-6313.html But then again this youtube says lower, around 120 psi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AERonjBB0Oc I guess the trick is to watch if it deforms. At 70 psi it pops my tyre so I really don't need more than that. But thanks for your concern.
  20. Or buy the Schwalbe one. Been well tested by the CE certification nannies. I have an empty 9kg gas bottle but see 2 issues: Too much pumping to get it up to pressure and my drill bit has nowhere to get through. Of course, this is all academic as I can just fetch my 150 litre compressor and plug it in. That does plenty of tyres with no hassles. And it's certified so perfectly safe.
  21. Live a little. It's fun.
  22. Added washers only to get the thread to the right height and to level the valves. I did use silicone on the valve stem before I pulled them through the holes and then applied a fair bit more into the cap making sure the valve holes stayed open and on the cap thread. I use the jo blo mountain to fill which only goes to 70 psi which is adequate for my road tyres. The high pressure pump is lower volume but gets the bottle to 110 psi after a few thousand pumps. A bigger top might work better for sealing as a bigger flatter surface. Something like an orange juice bottle. But that might require some duct tape to strengthen the plastic.
  23. Turns out PnP is doing their usual screw with others cash flow while the cash sits in own bank account stunt. The cash back for period 9/11-9/12 missed the processing cut off. Will be processed in January. Out of interest, who actually pays these cash backs? Vitality or the retailer?
