I have RSA plankgeweer. With a Ferlach barrel. It still shoots 1/2moa groups to this date. (I added a scope) They also came out with Musgrave and later Lyttleton barrels as you have stated. The own idea maybe a bit borrowed from the Mauser K98 action. Two large opposing locking lugs and large non-rotating extractor. But with improved lock time, safety, rigidity and trigger.

8x57 rimmed, 20ga and 22 Hornet One should have expected a 9.3mm IF it is a German Drilling. I suspect German since US and Britain would most likely not go for 8mm.

1.Start with groups AFTER you fouled the barrel. (shooting the oil residue out of the barrel) 2. Wait for the barrel to cool down after every shot. A few minutes. Better groups, longer barrel life 3. Try to sit in the exact position for every shot. Be comfortable. 4. Keep the targets. To not only compare group sizes, but also shapes. (ie to detect stringing) 5. Write it down. DOPE. 6. Also note the cartridge OAL (ie jump of bullets) Some bullets/rifles are jump sensitive.
  8. No problem. Opinel is relative good value for money.
  9. Not an easy post to understand. And I am not talking about caps lock. If you want to buy cheap, buy cheap. And expect cheap. If you want to buy a R10k folder, do so. I would if I could. If you want value for money, shop somewhere in the middle.
  10. Did it meet your expectations?

I stopped at 59gr of S361 in my 30-06 (180gr). About 3 grains less than what is their (somchem) max load. Always err on the safe side. Especially with ball powders and high ambient temperatures.

My only experience in a 30-06 with S361. I used standard primers. According to the somchem website it should be ok in the 270. Starting off with minimum loads of course. The test loads on the site was with PMP primers. Advertised as being "magnum" but in real life closer to standard primers. https://www.somchemreload.com/search?c=8&f=36

I have used S361 (somchem) in the 30-06 before with success. Gun shops still have stock of that. Some reloaders dislike it because it is a ball powder. BUT it is much much cheaper than imported propellants. If I remember correctly it was in the region of R300/500g. If you just want to have fun, why not try S361! Just BEWARE of max loads. It is temperature and primer sensitive.

If you plan to reload the odd round here and there (less than 100/year) it is not worth it. Load development and cost of equipment does not justify the occasional reloader. That said I would go with the heavier bullet. Problem with the 270 is that the barrel twist for most rifles is based on a 130gr bullet Log onto a site like Jaracal.com. Lots of info there

Those old Musgrave rifles were soooo underrated. In those days people bought any rubbish that could be imported. And looked down on our local products.

The factors that influence barrel life are: Powder charge (grains) Temperature of the explosion.(some powders burn hotter than others) The circumference of the bullet (2 x 3.14 x radius) Did the barrel cool down between shots (throat erosion)

And THIS is why I shoot a 308 win. A 300 WSM will empty your pocket pretty quick with ammo costs.
