  1. Also solo, so once I received the confirmation email that I won an entry ( ) I will give you a shout.... .
  2. Saw this post on the Pta East Facebook Group from Heather Muller "Warning: Be careful when riding at Fort klapperkop. Was riding this afternoon (07/02/2015) on the tar when I saw 3 suspisious men run out of the bushes, over the road infront of me&down the hill into the bushes again. When I came back up the hill I found they had just mugged 2 men. The 3 "suspicious "looking guys had held them down at knife point, mugged them of all their valuables/ car keys, etc leaving them stranded. Word of warning - dont stop at view points and keep cycling." Be careful out there.
  3. Ummm, I have 7 left......but I am on leave next week , soooo watch this space
  4. On Pta East Facebook page: The Bester family of 3 were robbed this morning @ 11h00 from their personal belongings in the Groenkloof Nature Reserve while cycling near the Fountains circle. We have posted guards to patrol the area and they will be on site for the weekend. The family is ok but shaken up from the bad ordeal.
  5. Agree with RSA, I am there in the mornings around 05:30 to just after 6. Usually do the single track down and next to the golf course back up. Lots of cyclists around, although I see most MTBikers on my way out so not too sure how many people go onto the tracks.
  6. Hi O. There is a KK whatapp group but it is a bit quiet at the moment, nobody really coordinating rides. Are you looking for weekdays/weekends and mornings/afternoons?
  7. Anybody going to ride at KK this afternoon?
  8. Ja, I hear you. Been working from home the last couple of days and with the security issues at Klapperkop, my commute has been drastically shortened. Not a happy chappy at this stage
  9. I cycle to work (CSIR in Lynnwood Ridge) and then go for a training ride in the afternoons after work, so Red Barn is not an option but will see if Groenkloof will work. Thanks for the advice
  10. CSIR, Meiring Naude
  11. Thanks L. It is hard for me to commit to a time and therefore not easy to join other cyclists at set times so it helps knowing there will be guys on the trails. Also getting very uncomfortable doing the trails and not worth it for me to go all the way there and just stick to tar. Don't know what to do now, KK was my last option to feel safe. Will have to see if Wolwespruit might be a better option but first need to figure out the best road (on the bike) to get there.
  12. So I guess cycling alone on the tracks is still not a good idea . Anybody planning on being out on trails this week in the pm after 4 or mornings sometime? Maybe we should get the KK Whatapp group going again so we can at least know if there is people out on the trails?
  13. Yesterday there was a security guard at the gate, wonder why he wasn't there today.
  14. I am willing to assist where I can
  15. Me too but didn't go cause I am worried that it will be unsafe.............
  16. I agree and am prepared to do something to ensure KK remains a safe training area. Any suggestions? I will be willing to make a monthly payment for security guards at the gates, just to stop people from just walking in although not sure it will make a difference.
  17. Ag FFS. I really love riding at KK and always go on my own. Ride there many weekday afternoons but usually encounter very few MTBikers out on the trails which bothered me in the beginning but lately I guess I have become complacent. KK is really the last place where I felt safe to ride on my own (during the week).
  18. Grotto trail - Northern Drakensberg
  19. Riverlea in the southern Drakensberg. Thanks to Hubbers, I found this wonderful place.....
  20. I am about 1.65cm, got a 29" Scott Spark 910 (duel sus), specialized avatar comb saddle, went for proper bike fit and really love the bike. Had a ladies specific bike before and didn't enjoy it much (but I was also a bit of a noob then, hopefully I am now a bit less of a noob).
  21. I did the Karkloof 30km loop on two occasions in October. On the Sunday afternoon there was a slight drizzle when I started, which turned to a downpour of note! The single track become a river. I was the only one out on the trail and nobody at the country club when I got back. Still had a great time. The Monday morning I went for another 30km loop and what a wonderful ride. It was a sunny morning and after the rain the previous day it was spectacular! Will most certainly go back when I have another chance, but unfortunately this trip was too short and work got in the way..............
  22. Hi S. Went there on Wednesday afternoon, it was really great! I only managed to do one loop (the 17km) but was so worth it. Will most certainly be back as soon as I can. Thanks again for all the advice.
  23. I am only able to ride in the afternoons, after 4ish. I have contacted Giba and am going to join the night ride there this Wednesday. Thanks for all the advice, appreciate it.
  24. Hi S. Drove past Giba entrance today (was too late to go and ride) and then eventually found Oscar's. GPS however took me on many twists and turns and through areas where I will not want to cycle. Do you perhaps have a kml file/strave or garmin connect route that I can follow from Oscar's? Will really appreciate it. Otherwise I will just have to take the car there on Wednesday and hopefully be in time for the night ride(s). Thanks a mill.
  25. During the week as well? Got so much advice from the hubbers, I don't want to return to boring Gauteng
