  1. Blomfontein Farm, near Sutherland. Karoo...I would not mind being there right now (even though it's freezing cold)...
  2. Gummi I see on their website that this R22k baby is sold out?
  3. This... ...is one haaaaaaaawt watch! Doit...
  4. Goosebumps stuff, this. My ouma always said "as jy met 'n oop hand gee, sal jy met 'n oop hand ontvang" and I have found this to be true in every single situation... Massive respect to you and the Hub community.
  5. Honest answer… As an Afrikaanse ou I'm not offended by the term but I remain a wee bit sensitive about it. I always consider the real intention behind using potentially offensive names or assignations. Yeah, “Dutchman”, “Redneck”,”Soutie”, “Kakie”, “Engelsman”, “Boer”, “Rockspaaider” and even terms such as “vettie”, “blondie”, “dommie” etc. are frequently used in a harmless, jokingly and affectionate way and that’s cool. However, I think this is often the language of subtle (and sometimes inadvertent) bullying and that’s not cool. On the other hand, my ouma was probably not bullying my oupa when she called him her “bokdrolletjie”…
  6. Hi Dinkymoo. Welcome to the Hub! I'm no expert...but my advice on buying an IDT would be...don't. See https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/135867-worst-cycling-purchase/
  7. Man I can't keep up with this thread - last followed when we were at 35 pages. Did I see somewhere that the attorney responded in person, that is after the initial bangmaakbrief? This is like watching the Hindenburg...
  8. Will see you there!
  9. Hehe - the plan was for just afterr 16:00 but that was 10 minutes ago before the pouring rain started again! Will probably look at riding tomorrow, weather permits!
  10. I ride the Kop at least twice a week and every single time I've been there (usually in the late afternoons) there were police vehicles patrolling the area. A few years back Klapperkop was a dangerous place and quite a few muggings occurred there but that was prior to proper fencing and access control was implemented. I suspect this incident, if real, was an opportunistic one....I hope... I'm tempted to hit the Kop for my usual Tuesday afternoon climbing intervals but I think it's gonna rain. Again.
  11. "The Big Guy- Bike Guy Parody"! Love it!
  12. Fat bastard? Hey man, I get that you want to add some kind of physical description to warn others and I totally get that you're upset but the fact that this dude was large does not actually have anything to do with this situation and with his actions, if you think about it. No need to play the man and not the ball because he acted like an idiot and went for the man...IMO.
  13. ...and yet we still support Advendurance events and pay the cash. Sounds a bit like South African politics.
  14. I'm at 14 Cash Converters and Pawn Shop helmets! Hope to get some more from Hubland!
  15. Please check out: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/135933-%e2%80%8echangeonething-howzit-helmet-pretoria/
  16. Ok...so some cool people have changed the "necknomination" thing into something meaningful called "ChangeOneThing". necknomination: down a pint of alcohol and then nominate someone else to do the same, giving them a window of 24 hours to do so, make a video of themselves carrying it out, and post it on social media platforms. changeonething: perform a random act of kindness, then nominate someone else to do the same, giving them a window of 24 hours to do so, make a video of themselves carrying it out, and post it on social media platforms. then down a beer... After reading through, and commenting on the helmets optional thread I have decided to put my money where my mouth is and accept my #ChangeOneThing challenge. This is what's going down, I'm calling it sommer Howzit Helmet. I basically want to drive around in my car with as many helmets as possible and whenever I see cyclist in need of a helmet (and by need I mean not having the means to afford one), give them a helmet. I have found a few old helmets at the local Cash Converters but would greatly appreciate any unused helmets from Hubbers! Please PM me! I will collect anywhere in Pretoria. I will post the resulting video here! Let's see how this will go down. Thanks guys!
  17. Wendy Krugerdorp Hill is a bit like getting the feared dental injection...you wait for it to hurt and the next thing you know it's over. It really looks harder than it actually is, make sure you've shifted into a comfortable gear before you hit the hill and use it to warm the legs for the race. Enjoy!
  18. Exactly. I don't care so much for the Assos brigade that doesn't wear helmets out of preference or ignorance...Every day I drive past a whole lot of commuters on their cash-converters bikes, lunch tied to their seat posts in Checkers bags. No helmet and probably no money for one either. In my books they are no less part of the cycling community...yet I don't see any photos of these guys posted here...and very little mention of them either. I'm sure this is where we can really make a difference beyond pages upon pages of helmet talk.
  19. We look at it and with reverence and sentiment remember every Hansie 6 in a cricket match that awed us and every Joost try in rugby game that made us jump for joy. It's not that hard really...
  20. Why do you want to do something with it?
  21. Nope. What I do is before I hand over the goods, I log onto my internet banking on my cellphone, check that the cash is there, and then to be sure I transfer the funds to one of my other accounts e.g credit or savings. That way I know that 1. the money has been deposited and 2. the transaction is actually legit (i.e. not a cheque that will bounce in a day or two).
  22. You know what, I think this is simple actually. When I'm standing around a braai with my mates and an obviously overweight dude is part of the kuier I will definitely not pop a joke about large people (not that I generally do but ja...). It's not because I know that it WILL offend him but because a bit of social intelligence and common courtesy tells me that I might offended him and he might be hurt. On the other hand, EQ on an anonymous public forum might be a bit much to ask...
  23. Dunno...I have this irrational fear that some WebCrawler or Bot will take my name and surname, attach it in different combinations to gmail/yahoo/homail-addresses and then spam the hell out of me...And then build pyramids with it... Edit: Spamming...I mean spelling...
  24. Or... Being hard must have been public for him...
